I like the subject and the little details, but something seems off to me. Thoughts, anyone? QUOTE(marcus_dds @ Feb 8 2010, 10:12 PM) IMO, the shot could be more interesting if it has a compressed perspective (need a longer focal range). Good idea. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm shooting a similar subject. Thanks for the input.

QUOTE(nicotine @ Mar 1 2010, 10:05 PM) really good, hmmm just wondering how the flash were setup and how you minimize the glass reflection.. Thanks! I positioned the flash behind the glass firing directly towards the camera which eliminated the possibility of reflection. In certain cases this didn't provide enough light for the body of the fish, so I used the popup for fill light, but since the lens was so close to the glass(almost touching in fact) the reflection from the popup didn't show up either.

QUOTE(junior5417 @ Mar 20 2010, 06:13 PM) how to take this kind of picture? Zoom to the max? i am using sony a230 Normally for most insects you would need a macro lens to get that close. This fella was huge though. Putrajaya from up in the air. Anyone know what is that building in the middle? QUOTE(junior5417 @ Mar 22 2010, 12:01 AM) i have a 55-200mm tamron marco lens.. then zoom to the max? Probably, yeah. Zoom to 200mm and find the minimum focusing distance, that is, the closest you can get to your subject while still being able to focus on it. If I'm not mistaken these 55-200 zooms with macro designation typically have magnifications of 1:2 or 1:3 whereas a "true" macro lens will allow you to get to 1:1. 1:2 is still enough for larger bugs(like that dragonfly I posted) and lizards though, and if you want to get even closer you can buy a closeup adapter like the Raynox DCR250 for much cheaper than the cost of a true macro lens.

QUOTE(junior5417 @ Mar 22 2010, 07:00 PM) What is the function of 1:2, 1:3 because mine is 1:4. You can see it in picture below » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « That's a different thing than what I was referring to. The number printed on the side of your lens is the lens' f-number. 1:4-5.6 means that your lens' maximum aperture size is f/4 at 55mm and f/5.6 at 200mm. The magnification ratio I was talking about earlier refers to how much your lens can enlarge a given subject. The bigger the ratio of the 1st number to the 2nd number the more magnification your lens can achieve. Btw your lens' magnification ratio is 1:3.5

QUOTE(leetplayer @ Apr 20 2010, 09:32 PM) Wow, you dont need f/32.0 for that ^ . Lighting wasn't a problem since it was so dark I would have had to use a flash anyway, and besides I wanted to get as much of it in focus as possible.
