QUOTE(greyshadow @ Oct 27 2021, 01:14 PM) good news indeed, but gotta wait until 2023 before we can watch in on big screen Nah, it's Legendary cause they took 80% stake in financing Dune because they literally owned the rights to Dune. Back to back they didn't have a giant hit after their divorce from Universal until Kong vs Godzilla. Also DV track record in opening big numbers pretty much non existent. WB is in Netflix mode, they are hungry for content to feed HBO Max. WB should have green light the idea of filming part 1 & 2 together, not only it will reduce the production cost and time, the fans can watch it in cinema sooner as well as most of the multipart epic movies are filmed in the same production cycle nowadays, I was surprised that Dune haven't done so... oh well, that's WB... DV did vaguely said he likes The Messiah chapter, it may end up a trilogy with Leto Atreides II to bookend the ending. Also HBO wants a Bene Gesserit show from DV. |

Watched it over the weekend and it had to be one of the best sci-fi film I've seen in years.
Everything about the movie, from the visual effects, the music, the plot, the pacing, the action sequences, the sound effects/design, the acting... wow! I 'forced' myself to watch the 1984 Dune prior to this film and almost fell asleep. But the 2021 version, not even a minute was boring. It was in every sense much better than the 1984 version. Was surprised to see "Part One" at the intro title (didn't read too much into the 2021 version prior to watching it to keep any new surprises away and was also thinking it was going to follow the 1984 version very closely and that was only done in 1 lengthy part). No idea what the RottenTomatoes score is, but I'm thinking it should be easily 85-90% Denis Villeneuve is really becoming a master sci-fi specialist. Not only is he taking on projects that already 'existed' in the past, but making his version fresh & contemporary for today's audiences, something most film makers fail to achieve when taking on such projects. "Don't ruin the classic!" Nope, not when it is being done by Denis Villeneuve. This is not a mere update, it is much more than that. It just revitalized the entire Dune series that ever existed in any media form. Tell me if this isn't scary or what The chant sequences were also incredibly creepy The ridiculous costumes (I know it's based on the books) from the 1984 version + the unusually lengthy explanation / exposition = I really wanted to see how it was going to be done here. Let me just say, the first line of the movie "Dreams are messages from the deep" already set the stage for what is to come (as we keep getting Paul's dreams and mention of dreams - the audiences now have a tendency to remember that first line). The costumes are superb as well thanks to some very good design choices and the use of CG when in masses. This post has been edited by defaultname365: Nov 1 2021, 12:12 AM |

Thank goodness Part 2 had been officially announced.
Just hope Jason Mamoa recovers from Covid 19 with no severe after effects and will not delay Aquaman 2 which in turn will delay Dune 2... |

The 84 Dune opens up my mind to sci-fi not just pew-pew like Star Wars. It led me to Moebius, Heavy Metal comic books and Nausicca. Terrible as it may with the messy narratives, you can't deny all the wonderful weird things of David Lynch. It's a very truncated experience to say the least. Yeah I did bought a blu-ray when physical copy still a thing. Dune book 1 audiobook clocks in around 12 hrs. So can imagine the compromise it takes to cramp everything into 2 hour plus movie. Then again purist blowhards will nitpick down to the most minuscule detail. Some shitheads already complain '21 Dune for not showing the events exactly like the book. It's a movie A D A P T A T I O N numbskull!!!
