QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Oct 14 2021, 08:41 PM) Dune (2021) Haha finally your proper review since like what December 2019 ![]() Hi Kiddies Hope everyone here remains well. This long awaited, second time adapted for movie 50 year old Frank Herbert's book is finally in Malaysia cinema. I have very little recollection of the really messy 1984 Dune movie. I don't remember liking it (apparently, the studio meddled, and demanded edits, making the movie shorter and nonsensical. Although it had the singer, Sting. Fast forward 16 years, and Scifi made two mini series, titled Frank Herbert's Dune (2000) and Children of Dune (2003) abet on a Scifi network budget. Even when I first watched it, back in the day, I thought the costumes were... horrendous (imagine a 1st year fashion school student's work). The story is more comprehensible but until you watch Denis Villeneuve's (director) Dune, you have no idea how "expensive" the world of Frank Herbert's Dune is. The casting, the script and the thought put into the world building is second to none. I do not have access to Imax cinemas at this point in time, and I really REALLY wish I have. This movie is breathtaking. The only downside I can make about this movie is stated at the very beginning of the movie, namely the title, Dune, Part One. This movie is now being exhibited outside of USA. It will concurrently be release in the States at the cinema and HBO max. Box office receipt will determine if Denis Villeneuve gets to do Part Two... In my humble opinion, if you are a Sci Fiction fan and can visit a cinema safely, please do consider watching it a cinema. A small screen will not do it Justice My Two Sen |

QUOTE(greyshadow @ Oct 20 2021, 12:33 PM) I see many young generations that doesn't read or know about the original novel, went into the cinema because of few big names like Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin and Zendaya, expecting an action filled movie, but end up disappointed, and claim it's boring haha they are pussies This masterpiece aint for the general public, especially those spoilt by the superhero action genre I'm kinda worried now I won't be able to see Part 2 PS: this is one of those movie that need to be watch on huge IMAX screen with best audio system in order to appreciate the scale of it QUOTE(kueks @ Oct 20 2021, 11:29 PM) hello lmao i already earning 7-8k in 4 years of pre pandemic timewere u active in kopitiam late night threads last time? ur nick seems familiar all the best in finding new job, meanwhile can consider to drive grab while job hunting, can earn 6-7k a month 80% are singapore money taking grab lucky i have plenty of reserves so i still going strong haha now i delivery food ONLY till tambak johor opens back azbroi assume you southerners like me will know what i mean hehe This post has been edited by skylinelover: Oct 21 2021, 09:58 AM |

QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Nov 1 2021, 12:05 AM) Watched it over the weekend and it had to be one of the best sci-fi film I've seen in years. haha this is scarface all over againEverything about the movie, from the visual effects, the music, the plot, the pacing, the action sequences, the sound effects/design, the acting... wow! I 'forced' myself to watch the 1984 Dune prior to this film and almost fell asleep. But the 2021 version, not even a minute was boring. It was in every sense much better than the 1984 version. Was surprised to see "Part One" at the intro title (didn't read too much into the 2021 version prior to watching it to keep any new surprises away and was also thinking it was going to follow the 1984 version very closely and that was only done in 1 lengthy part). No idea what the RottenTomatoes score is, but I'm thinking it should be easily 85-90% Denis Villeneuve is really becoming a master sci-fi specialist. Not only is he taking on projects that already 'existed' in the past, but making his version fresh & contemporary for today's audiences, something most film makers fail to achieve when taking on such projects. "Don't ruin the classic!" Nope, not when it is being done by Denis Villeneuve. This is not a mere update, it is much more than that. It just revitalized the entire Dune series that ever existed in any media form. Tell me if this isn't scary or what The chant sequences were also incredibly creepy The ridiculous costumes (I know it's based on the books) from the 1984 version + the unusually lengthy explanation / exposition = I really wanted to see how it was going to be done here. Let me just say, the first line of the movie "Dreams are messages from the deep" already set the stage for what is to come (as we keep getting Paul's dreams and mention of dreams - the audiences now have a tendency to remember that first line). The costumes are superb as well thanks to some very good design choices and the use of CG when in masses. 1939 version vs 1984 version been a while since we last seen remake better than classics |

QUOTE(6so @ May 13 2022, 07:04 AM) Screen legend Christopher Walken is Emperor Shaddam. Florence Pugh is Princess Irulan and newcomer Austin Butler is Feyd Rautha. Haha future is bright for the future oscar winner https://collider.com/dune-part-2-cast-christoper-walken/ Florence Pugh is quickly becoming an A-lister. Austin Butler looks promising in the new Baz Luhrmann movie biopic about Elvis. Also CW omg loved that guy when he is baddie Most memorable was 007 view to a kill although it sucked hard when Roger Moore overstayed his welcome I hope the post-craig bond wont sucked and they are free 2 take their sweet time for post-no time 2 die movie |
