Pierre Morel Talks DUNE!!

user posted image

TAKEN director Pierre Morel spoke to MTV about his forthcoming adaptation of DUNE.

In the interview, Morel reveals that he likes David Lynch's 1984 adaptation as a Lynch film (but not as a DUNE interpretation) and also discusses his own relationship to the property. Turns out, he's read Herbert's original book (HERE) a number of times and intends to stay quite faithful to it.

QUOTE
“I’ve been reading it over and over again – well, I’m 45 now, so for 30 years. The fun story, actually, is that there were six books in that first series that Frank Herbert wrote. Every time I was going to buy a new one – because I couldn’t buy all six at one time – I was reading the previous ones so I would not forget anything. So, by the time I bought the sixth book I had already read the first one six times! So, I’m a hardcore fan.”
    [EDIT]
“[My movie] is all about the first book. I’m trying to be very respectful to the original novel,”

Ive been introduce by the games Sega Dune2 until I realize its originate from Frank Herbert Dune. Seems similar but different from Star Wars, the original 1984 Dune movie was impressive and above my expected. Then Scifi 'Frank Herbert Dune and children of dune which I think is good.

I didnt read about the novel but I like its storyline,

After Blade Runner 2049 (Sci-Fi), Denis Villeneuve reportedly will tackle adaptation of DUNE

QUOTE
“David Lynch did an adaptation in the ’80s that has some very strong qualities, I mean David Lynch is one of the best filmmakers alive, I have massive respect for him. But when I saw his adaptation I was impressed, but it was not what I had dreamed of, so I’m trying to make the adaptation of my dreams.

It will not have any link with the David Lynch movie. I’m going back to the book, and going to the images that came out when I read it.”

Denis Villeneuve
QUOTE
Instead, Villeneuve will be starting from scratch and drawing on the book as inspiration for how the movie will look:

“It will not have any link with the David Lynch movie. I’m going back to the book, and going to the images that came out when I read it.”

Villeneuve has had quite the creative run in recent years, directing acclaimed movies such as Arrival, Enemy and Sicario.

While Villeneuve’s sequel Blade Runner 2049 may have failed to impress at the box office, it was critically acclaimed and is considered a worthy follow-up to the classic original.

While the director was apparently in the running for James Bond 25, it seems his commitment to Dune has ruled him out of the job.

While Villeneuve is undoubtedly a great choice, Dune has become a notoriously tricky project to adapt for the big screen.

Before Villeneuve became attached, Peter Berg and Pierre Morel both spent years trying to get a new version made, and even prior to Lynch’s movie, filmmakers like Ridley Scott and Alejandro Jodorowsky tried and failed to mount adaptations.

Dune isn’t the easiest book to adapt given the amount of characters and scope of the story – but if any filmmaker can do it justice, it’s Villeneuve.
*to date, Villeneuve's DUNE has no release date

HBO next big budget production aside GOT, Confederate and Westworld is Watchmen sequel. The idea is to use the social/political story platform to react to the era of Trump's shitshow administration.

DV's Dune adaptation still too early to tell whether it can materialize as all boils down to Universal and Legendary willing to pull the trigger or not.

Lo and behold.

They are hiding Feyd Rautha and only one quick shot of Baron. Easily my most anticipated movie this year after Tenet has let me down.

Sweet... Denis Villeneuve seem to be only one capable of revisiting classic films and making it work again today 😁 Not an easy feat to achieve as it can be seen as "cheesy"

Official BTS session moderated by Stephen Colbert with the main cast.

Zendaya and Timothee casting a closer representation to the essence of the book. They are supposed to be 15 years old IIRC.

Why trailer cut & editing looks dated la? Bgm didn't make any impression...I didnt expect it to be as loud as TENET la..with the BGM screaming "LOOK HERE...I AM HERE..THE BGM IS DOPE!!! CHECK ME OUT!!" but considering DUNE's budget, u expect some level of epic orchestral or at least mildly pulsating bgm...😏

Sigh....!!! Dude that's Han Zimmer rework of Pink Floyd's Eclipse. It's a nod to the failed adaptation of Jodorowsky's Dune. Pink Floyd suppose to score the music on that failed movie. It's effing Pink Floyd and show some respect boy!

Didn't change the fact trailer was so-so. It reminds alot of Star Wars: Force Awakens...and it was dogshit. Bored TF outta me. This one seems in-line with it. Maybe for veterans it would be fun or even evoke nostalgia. Not criticizin it or anything. Just sayin with it's budget, trailer cut & editing could've been tighter. Peace yo

That's your lowly opinion and doesn't mean it's the consensus. In what reality does the name Hans Zimmer and Pink Floyd music right constitute as low budget or lazy effort? Unless you're living under a rock, hasn't it been the trend of reworking classic songs for trailers is all the rage. How is this any different from The Batman, Death by Nile, WW 84, etc... I am not criticizing you for disliking the trailer, but mischaracterization of no budget just because the bgm selection not up to your standard. Last I checked...360k likes vs 10k dislikes. Not in any metric form that the trailer is as disastrous as you perceive it to be. Correlation does not mean causation.... If you equate Dune to Star Wars TFA, then you have no idea what it is all about!
