Sweet... Denis Villeneuve seem to be only one capable of revisiting classic films and making it work again today 😁 Not an easy feat to achieve as it can be seen as "cheesy"

Watched it over the weekend and it had to be one of the best sci-fi film I've seen in years.
Everything about the movie, from the visual effects, the music, the plot, the pacing, the action sequences, the sound effects/design, the acting... wow! I 'forced' myself to watch the 1984 Dune prior to this film and almost fell asleep. But the 2021 version, not even a minute was boring. It was in every sense much better than the 1984 version. Was surprised to see "Part One" at the intro title (didn't read too much into the 2021 version prior to watching it to keep any new surprises away and was also thinking it was going to follow the 1984 version very closely and that was only done in 1 lengthy part). No idea what the RottenTomatoes score is, but I'm thinking it should be easily 85-90% Denis Villeneuve is really becoming a master sci-fi specialist. Not only is he taking on projects that already 'existed' in the past, but making his version fresh & contemporary for today's audiences, something most film makers fail to achieve when taking on such projects. "Don't ruin the classic!" Nope, not when it is being done by Denis Villeneuve. This is not a mere update, it is much more than that. It just revitalized the entire Dune series that ever existed in any media form. Tell me if this isn't scary or what The chant sequences were also incredibly creepy The ridiculous costumes (I know it's based on the books) from the 1984 version + the unusually lengthy explanation / exposition = I really wanted to see how it was going to be done here. Let me just say, the first line of the movie "Dreams are messages from the deep" already set the stage for what is to come (as we keep getting Paul's dreams and mention of dreams - the audiences now have a tendency to remember that first line). The costumes are superb as well thanks to some very good design choices and the use of CG when in masses. This post has been edited by defaultname365: Nov 1 2021, 12:12 AM |

Damn, the reviews have been insane, with some calling it "Lawrence of Arabia"
