the whole complete set of strings not $$ ... starting from string #1 just RM3.50 to #21 about RM7.50. If buy complete set even cheaper.
(tat's the price for normal DunHuang .....NOT Type A nor B).

for info... the Professional strings are all made from Germany. ... last longer and their diameter or gauge slightly bigger... louder sound.

During the 4weeks of Mei-mei competitions .. she snapped 4 of #1 string , 1 of #5 and 1 of #17..... she got at least 2 complete set of Type B.. but
now her string #1 is a normal one as 雪山春曉 got a lot of pressing on #1. ... snapped very easy if used 'cow strength'.

honestly if u really wan to have it i can get someone to bring them back from hongkong after the 2nd International Grand Guzheng competition.
but if u beh tahan.... i can pass mei-mei last Dunhuang final set to u .. Dunhuang Type B.

If the buzz sound from the slot near the tuning peg ... before you re-string the new one pls check ... if so let me know.

Your Dad really HELPS u a great deal using a damp cloth to wipe the dust........ ... NOT tat bad lar... no serious damage.. *scare u onli*

the easiest way is using the GZ dust brush... its a 1ft long cloth brush .. something looks like a long bottle brush.... cheap lar if buy from China ... <RM10.

else u can remove all the bridges and wipe it clean wit a soft cloth and re-install back the bridges and tune again.

On care of sound board, the wet cloth is the most common mistake. The other thing is putting the gz by the window. The chi is not good for the gz My class mate taught me this. She kept her gz by the window and the soundboard started cracking due to the sunlight. So the "heat chi" can harm your gz. If that is the only place for your gz make sure the curtain is dawn so the gz gets no sunlight.
The last time at your place you told me there is gz that could not be tuned. I suggest to cut the string.
I know the contestant that won 7th place with 90.33 marks

I have a budget of 100 for a complete set of strings, would it be cheaper if bring the strings back from hk? Could you do me the favor? I want better quality strings, and I can wait for it.

I have solved the buzz problem. My guzheng has this small "white plastic hand" on the box (on the right side of the picture below). After I removed the "plastic hand", the buzz gone.

Just bear wit me for awhile ... I will ship in some high grade strings for mei-mei .... u just pay for the strings while i take care the postage fees.

As for the 2 nos. of white plastic hands are more a decorative from previous ownner... just remove it lar and patch back wit some wood filler and color it
back wit some brown stain.

I'm very happy to play guzheng. Last time I don't know much bout gz. I discovered my interest for this lovely instrument after reading this thread.

So, cutting the strings did not help? Then maybe is something funny like laBella's new weapon.If cant find these weird gadgets then ketuk it like a Kapok lor. You have enough experience with Kapok mah.

Anyway 7th place for national open is not bad. Now I can get tips form the national top ten

It time to buy a DIY book. I remember you told me in the "Scale" thread not to rely fully on teacher. 李萌 and 王中山 are my favourites. 李萌 wrote the syllabus for the exams.

Lucky I found the root of the buzz, the screw on the 'plastic hand' is loose causing the 'plastic hand' buzzing when the strings vibrate.

Yea I'm gonna buy a book. The teaching material that my teacher currently using is his own compilation of exercises and songs for beginner, which has only 20+ pages without techniques explanation.

SUbang...can I also order 1 set of of good GZ strings?

My book is more than 100 pages of music scores hand written by teacher too. The progression from song to song is most important. From here you will realise what your teacher is trying to teach you.

Pretty girl but I dont hear mandrin too well. From the demo it seems like basic termelo techniques. Keep arm align or get tried for prolong strokes. If over done can ache the next day. Like shoulders hurt after vigorous badminton.

Got anything on sweep shaking and pluck shaking? Especially the pluck shaking I like to see in slow motion.

Bella...tell us more about your progress in GZ.

So far so good. Started to play octave songs and exercises with thumb and middle finger, I practise a lot these few days. I never realized the way I use my thumb for picking was wrong until my teacher told me. The correct way is bend the 1st joint of thumb when hitting the strings, so the tone will be more solid and loud.

Do you get any fingerache so far?

No ache so far

Octave song using thumb and midfinger is call 八度。 They use 8 because one octave is 8 notes apart. At more advance level you will do 十六度。
Bending the thumb or let the thumb curve slightly is a natural thing for the 8 degree reach.
