Little Ice, it is GREAT to see your presence here in this thread.

Yong,
Tell us why you dont have the guts to play the guzheng? I am sure there is a reason such as afraid that it is too difficult, afraid that it may turn out to be an expensive affair or simply just afraid that the teacher will eat you up. smile.gif

What Empire means is he is a natural. He can just pick up any instruments and can play it like an expert in a short time. So he do not need to take lessons. Therefore he cant advise you on classes. For you info he plays more than 20 instruments.

Subang did the most research on this subject from syllabus to tuition fees to instruments prices. That is a lot of time invested and petrol to check out all the rates and syllabus all over the Klang Valley. He is the main man for these info.

As for me, I only know a little and pretend to be an expert. Let me just tell you about instruments cost. The entry level instrument is about RM2000. I would advise you get those in mid range which is about RM5000.

faceless....wa..dont la scare yoong with an entry level guzheng at RM2,000. She can buy the baby guZheng for a few hundred RM only to try. It may not be as good as the Rm2, 000...but for a beginner who doesnt know if she will continue learning guzhend or drop out..the few humdred RM is well worth it.

Empire :- for tis I agree with brudder Faceless.... well it's just like learning piano. Some will say just buy a keyboard and start learning from it until
the so call "feel' arrives then only get a piano.... *sigh*

My 2sen opinion is; attend the class 1st... say 1mth or 2 for as if a courtship ... when ready or "love is in the air " get a full scale guzheng
and start of the commitment with speak softly love. wub.gif

To buy wat sort of guzheng ... is another quest mark... 'how deep is ur love and the pockets'.

There is no such thing as right or wrong ....like a relationship between a man and a woman... just try to keep the eternal flame burning.

Well today i am getting veri 'cheong hey' again.... i think its time for me to call off for the day now... Manic monday and time for a nice
pint of St James gate near my office. thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif "one package 4full pints just RM50 + kacang putih"... ! drool.gif

P/S :- Faceless ... u intend to go for the 2nd Malaysia Guzheng competition in march; bru ?

Subang,
I am not participating. I dont think I am ready yet. I am still having problems with double handed play. I will go there to support mei-mei. 19 March is my nephew birthday so most likely I will not be available. I will be there the other two days.

Empire,
Some baby guzheng are better than entry level. It all depends on the grade of wood that goes into to the sound board. Baby guzheng is just not as loud since there is less volume (as in length x width x height) in the sound box to echo out the sound.

that time i was in secondary school so very free and learn fr 2-3 years.
i also play for leisure. no exams. in fact my 'teacher' was a family friend and she teach me for extra side income and way below the normal price charged outside.

why stop ar. cause very busy nowadays and also my teacher is learning for exams and performance or something like that. so she herself is pretty stress with her own lessons already and i couldn't really find time to continue learning.
i'm the worst. sad.gif i pick up and learn stuff then quit after a while. was like that with piano and ice skating also.

I guess it is simply no interest. If there is interest there is commitment to practise. It could also be there is not enough challenge in learning the skill. For example you may see ice skating as nothing but just walk, run, turn, and jump (kids stuff really). The more acrobatic feats of ice skating does not interest you or you simply just think you are not good enough to perform those stunts.

It is a common fear, Yong. Lack of knowledge always causes fear. If you do not know how to drive a car, you will be fearful when driving. Once you get the hang of it, there is no more fear. The question is to ask yourself how strong is your interest. If you think you like it very much then you will do whatever it takes to overcome the obstacles. As Little Ice puts it "not guts but money". smile.gif Money to pay for lessons is one part. The other part is the commitment to practise.
