Faceless...Wednesday night Concerts are sort of like 'anything goes' for MPO.

Most Wednesday Concerts feature Malaysian Talents...but it must be spearheaded by a MPO Musician to ensure quality control is always there. MPO doesnt allow any act to perform on Wednesday evenings without at least 1 MPO Musician.

Contrary to what one might think (including me)...MPO people are pretty open to non-classical new acts and shows. No one in Malaysia can beat MPO in classical..that's for sure. That is why they reserve Weekends for big concerts featuring big Classical works...and allowed some leeway for other things on Wednesday.

Faceless...if you want to give a solo Guzheng recital in MPO...let me know. :-)

The only thing I like about "Happy Hour" is the cheap Box seat. It was nice of you to tell us about the concert early. That had enabled us to get Box A. It was fantastic! The height is just slightly above the stage. With audience seated and performers standing, the audience can see performers at eye level. It is about 15 feet away from the stage and it look "live size". I had been to concert and the performers only look like ants size due to cheaper seats. It is worst than watching live telecast. At least in live telecast cameraman sometimes zoom in on the hottest action.

I am still a long way from doing guzheng solo. When I am ready I will look for you.

Karenalvin,
I heard of the association but not the event. I would not mind going to the watch for the exposure to contest. Unfortunately they choose Christmas Day.

Subang,
You sending Mei-mei for this contest?

Empire,
I am not sure what to make out of the comments. Do they mean they have no skills to do what you guys have done or MPO did not allow they to do it? I also think sing along is not part of any music exam syllabus. Even when I play songs (usually 70s like Shanghai Tan) on my guzheng, I tried to sing while I play.

I am aware of tis competition for sometime alridi.

Mei mei not attending tis as few of her group members busy with other personal stuff.
In addition she is busy with her latin silver grade test.. doh.gif as well as the 10th Jan dancesport competition ; ballroom & latin... *sigh* rclxub.gif rclxub.gif shakehead.gif

She will be attending the March 2nd Malaysia Open Guzheng solo competition..... i will post the details here later.

No jokes lah. The art is dying art due to lack of interest. It may take me a long time to learn how to be an opera actor so if I can play the background music I would be content.

faceless...I'm inspired that for a non-chinese educated person like you...you appreciate our Chinese roots eg chinese musical instruments, chinese art and even Chinese Opera.

You are right. Chinese Opera is a dying art. Maybe my Shanghai Angels can help play a role in reviving this dying art...but we can do it with a twist in ENGLISH so that more English speaking audience can appreciate it.

Added on December 15, 2010, 11:52 amI forgot to say a BIG Thank You to Subangman and his 2 lovely daughters, Faceless, La Bella, ALvin for your support in my Band's concert in MPO. Your presence is very much appreciated by my Band members and me.

Why dont we get together during CNY for a fun jamming session? Faceless can play Guzheng, ALvin Dizi, La Bella play guitar, Subangman can sing, I can play Erhu/Zhongruan/Dizi. hehehe....seriously.

Thank la Bella, I dont read China Press. They do not use simplified strokes (which I understand). NanYang is the only chinese daily that is fully in simplified strokes. I read it every now and then to keep in touch with chinese. Can you tell me how often this community meet and where? Dying association like these are very happy to get new members.

Empire, chinese opera in english language sound good. What do you have in mind? I thought the CNY open house is already fix at your place. You just have to give us the date. Just fix the date lah, we will come over with instruments.

18X65 is good enough to fit everyone in. We can always improvise. smile.gif How much bigger can it get 24X80? It still comes down to the size of the living room. Tentatively it will be at you place.

CNY has 15 days. Just let us know when you are in KampungKUL and we will try to accommodate. Actually we dont need to confine it to the 15 days of CNY. People celebrate CNY after the 15th day too especially entertaining corporate clients. Restaurants are aware of this and they still serve yee sang to cater to this demand.
