I wouldn't bother with Australia if I were you. Like what limeuu said, the IMU-PMS to UK route seems to be the most viable option, considering you're taking Australian Year 12.

In addition to the internship shortage issue in Australia, most medical programs are also shifting to a postgraduate model (read American-style). The only ones left now are the following, if I'm not mistaken:
- UTAS
- Monash (Again, it makes more financial sense to study at Sunway since you are awarded the same degree)
- Adelaide
- UNSW
- U of Western Sydney and James Cook (two of the newer programs; not sure whether if it's worth taking the risk though as they are both not recognised in Singapore yet)

So, that leaves you, realistically, with just UTAS, Adelaide and UNSW (roughly 100-120 seats for international students among them). Good luck competing with students from Singapore and Hong Kong smile.gif

newcastle is also undergraduate entry......however, does not take direct entry international students.....there are however, backdoor ways of gaining entry.........

the main downsides to monash msia is practical near impossibility of getting a job in oz after.....and it is also NOT recognised by spore..........

I reckon it would be unwise to pursue a program that's not recognised by Singapore, being our closest neighbour and all.

And yeah, fall back plan would be IMU-PMS, although some aussies did get into uk medical programs after year 12.

If your plan is to come back and work in Malaysia full time, Monash Malaysia is perfectly decent.

And unless one has taken both pre-university qualifications, how can one quantify which is "harder" than the other?

there are 2 main differences between the two...

a-levels cover content in greater depth.....ie the syllabus is deeper and wider......but assessment is based purely on exam........

oz year 12 on the other hand, covers content more superficially, but however is a more moderated course, with strong emphasis on METHODS and PROCESS.....course work and summatives takes up 50-70% of final marks.......

in summary, year 12 prepares you better for real world university environment (western world, not msia).....

a-levels prepares you for the 1st year of uni better, as some content will already be covered at a-levels.....but it can be a bit of cultural shock when you enter uni in the western world, and suddenly find you have minimal didectic teaching, and have to do almost everything by yourself.....

just some question regarding banking there.

im about to bank in around 100k AUD and with the high interests rate, i wonder could i possibly live off it? only for expenses, excluding rent.
and could you advice what bank is preferred?
kind confused cause they have all this kinda different plans.

will be going over next month and costs is a total bomb
really appreciate it!

put the money in high interest internet based accounts and you should get at least 6%.....that is 6k/year or 500/mth......just keep you alive with zero frills in major cities.......

the process of applying for uk med school starts 1 full year before, and includes sitting for ukcat/bmat tests.........

while i have known many with oz year 12 qualifications being accepted into many courses, i have not know anyone being admitted into medicine.....in any case, it makes no sense why anyone would do a year 12 programme when intending to go to uk.....just go do a-levels......which is also perfectly acceptable for entry into oz.....and actually an easier pathway into critical courses in oz...........

Just an option for those considering UK after Aus Yr 12.

http://compare.brisbanetimes.com.au/savings-accounts

This is the place to start.

At a 6% base rate with Ubank, with 100k AUD, assuming the rates don't change, that's about $500/month. Should get you along quite comfortably, even in Sydney and Melbourne, if you exclude rent.

One thing to keep in mind with these 3rd party saving accounts is that they are considered "other financial institutions". Even Ubank, which is "backed by NAB", if you transfer money from your savings account with Ubank to your NAB Classic Banking account for use, it can take a few (working) days for the funds to be cleared.

This is in contrast to the sub-accounts provided by most Australian financial institutions, which while only accessible via online banking, at least funds that are transfered from your high interest sub-account to your everyday account are cleared (almost) instantaneously.

kings used to be ranked quite high, but appears to have slipped somewhat in recent years.....

if you are referring to that kings appears to accept aussie year 12 as acceptable qualification, that is of no consequence.....you may note that stpm is NOT in the list, but i have known more people (msians) being admitted with stpm, and actually nil with year 12..........

kings is part of the ukcat consortium, so it would be a good idea to start applying to sit for that now....

Like you said upthread, it doesn't really make sense to go down under for pre-U studies for UK universities, thus the "negligible" stats for malaysians. Recent developments may persuade malaysians otherwise. Having said that, aspiring MBBS students would have been sent based on some form of budget allocation for the course. Movements in currency and continual fee hike may also blow the budget to shreds! doh.gif

Can I just give you a blanket thanks for your inputs, now and current? Hehe...thank you!

no more undergrad pathway for dentistry in melb U. but generally you can use it to apply for most of the unis in aus cos it is widely recognized.
