you will be surprised how many people actually choose a course of study in oz for the reason of it being an in-demand profession and to optimise their chance of getting a pr...........mostly from prc and india.........but increasing so from msia as well............

real world reality check.........
*
I am aware of this, but I'm questioning the risks involved. Occupations in demand favourable for migration change all the time and it is difficult to tailor a degree towards achieving this (are you willing to switch majors halfway through your degree if it changes?). The chances of one graduating with dismal results or even failing to graduate is much higher if one is taking up a degree that they have absolutely no interest in, thus gaining little knowledge or skill that would be valuable to the workforce and potentially ruining their future. This is one of the main reasons why we're seeing scores of unemployed graduates not because there aren't enough jobs, but because they are of dubious quality.

What I'd usually propose is to choose an area (a reasonable growth industry, not something too niche and limited) where one is interested to study in and strive to excel, gaining relevant experience along the way. Upon graduation, there is likely going to be opportunities both in Australia, Malaysia or in other countries. So, it happens that this is not a current skill in demand in Australia, but that doesn't shut out migration opportunities outright. It may take longer due to the current unfavourable economic climate, but you're better off having a good job in Malaysia (even if you have to return home) which you landed based on your excellent credentials and skills than to suffer being jobless in Australia/Malaysia because you chose to study a course that you're not interested in and perform poorly.

it's the eternal question of what is right.........the means justifies the end, or the end justifies the means.........?

for many people, the end (staying on in oz) justifies the means (study any course in oz).......

like life itself, it's a gamble.......but some jobs are always in demand.....like health care paramedics (nursing, physiotherapist, optometry etc)........

Don't think there is much difference in the subjects you learn just a different name. The one from Melbourne uni is a Bachelor of Commerce where you major in Actuarial and the other bachelor of actuarial studies. Not much difference in terms of what you study maybe a bachelor of commerce is more flexible on which electives you can take ^^ in the end the end the difference just the name of your Bachelor Degree.Melbourne Uni will give you a Bachelor of Commerce while ANU give you Bachelor of Actuarial Studies =)

Generally speaking, most of the electronic/computer gadgets are cheaper in M'sia with the exception of iPods. Buy stuff that you can bring over, such as mice, modems; but you don't have to carry a printer over. Just bring enough cartridges to last you till your next return to M'sia.

That's probably true for low end cameras. I have been looking at DSLR and Panasonic LX3 at Ted's Camera but they are more expensive than in Malaysia.

A hard question to answer, but some things for you to ponder first:

1. Bachelor of Sci or Comm - You've got to choose which path first, then later decide what specialty. Under commerce you can do finance, marketing etc... same with Sci where there is biotech, geology, zoology, math, physics etc.

2. Melbourne has a lot of unis. Without 1. it's hard to search for suitable unis.

3. Once you've decided 1. and 2., get in contact with the respective unis and ask them whether your UWAFP results meet their criteria or not. They will provide better answers than any of us here could.

A piece of advice - choose a field where your enthusiasm lies, not choose a location/uni to study and compromise yourself in a course which you have absolutely no interest in.

can you get into melb unis using uwafp? Sure, it's recognized there. I bet you've studied uwafp in canning or tuart? The cut off points or requirement should be listed on the uni's website, so you can probably check it out. But um, isn't it a bit late to apply for uni's in melb? (eg:monash/ melb U) there should be a deadline or some sort right?
