For current TV (exclude projector) unless the size is 50" above , I doubt that we can notice any difference compare to 1080P. tongue.gif

Fox Says No 3D Avatar Blu-ray in November

James Cameron caused quite a stir when he said to the Wall Street Journal that Avatar would come out on Blu-ray in April in a "barebones" release and then in November in a 3D edition. On Thursday night, a spokesman for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment notified the WSJ: "3D is in the conceptual stage and Avatar will not be out on 3D Blu-ray in November."

Of course, when putting in context the claim that "3D is in the conceptual stage," the following known facts are worth considering:
In December, the Blu-ray Disc Association (of which Fox is a board member) announced that it had finalized the Blu-ray 3D specification.
The 3D part of the HDMI 1.4 specification has already been adopted and made public.
At CES, 3D Blu-ray players were announced by Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba. Most of them have also announced 3D displays.
This year, the PS3 is reportedly getting a firmware upgrade enabling 3D Blu-ray playback.
Blu-ray 3D authoring is already operational at Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory
Disney, Dreamworks and Sony have already announced they will release 3D titles during 2010.

Quite good deal. Almost similar price to the amazon usa gold deal for this, at US$59 in December.

If I was FOX, I'd say "No 3D" as well, as this would make folks buy the normal BD... after which they might just announce that the 3D BD will be out on X month.

Coraline 3D uses the old anaglyph technology with the red/green glasses. The 3D that we're talking about with Avatar uses the new technology with polarized glasses. You'll need a new BD player or firmware upgradable current players like the PS3 (new firmware with this 3D capability is reportedly coming this summer). You'll also need to upgrade your TV, and possibly the AV receiver too ( Sony however claims their players will be able to send 3D data via current HDMI 1.3 instead of 1.4).

So far no titles with this technology has been released yet, though the BDA has finalised the 3D specifications and many manufacturers have already announced the new players. Avatar might not be the first titles to use the new 3D technology.

Yes. Sony can use HDMI 1.3 to achieve that but only at max. 30fps. So, it mean you probably only can set your tv to 24fps to enjoy 3-D. laugh.gif

Not all tv got 24p tongue.gif Those 3-D ready tv sold this year probably all support 24p since likely all of them are high end models. However, maybe few year later, 3-D ready TV also like current situation, low end 3-D ready don't have 24p. tongue.gif
