QUOTE(low98944 @ Jan 29 2010, 11:07 PM) It was scanned at 4k resolution for the master, then the digital intermediate is downscaled to 1080p for blu-ray production.By the way, tested Michael Jackson's This Is It. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 has easily taken over the throne for the audio king in concert category. Excellent use of surrounds (the music itself, not crowd noise/ambience), very finely detailed and crystal clear reproduction of each instruments, and what's making it more unique is Michael's unique choice of instruments in his songs that's makes it feel exotic but alive, really sweet. The drums and percussions all comes to live taking you right into the stage. And the LFE, the bass pedals just pounds your heart without mercy, you'll want more. The lowest notes of the bass strings were translated very accurately and intricately defined, in "Man in the Mirror" it's just so sweet, you can feel the vibration of each lingering note. Those with elite LFE system will defintely reach bassgasm, I guarantee. For video, they're compiled from more than a hundred hours of footage, using many different type of cameras, HD and SD. With HD shots there's just very few to complain, and of course, SD is SD you can only get the best of what upconversion can provide (the native video already upcoverted to HD on the disc, your equipment is not doing any upconversion). Will discuss more a about tbe content when I watch it in full, though with the preview it already gave me goosebumps, amazing. And he was 50 years old. |

QUOTE(fadthil @ Jan 30 2010, 11:12 AM) one question to all... why do they need 4k/8k res when eventually downscale to 1080p? do they want to make the footage future-proof? because to master to those xtra res wont come cheap right? am just curious... The resolution of the analogue 35mm film equals to more or less 4k in digital pixels. Scanning at this resolution should minimize the loss of details. And yes, at the same time you'll have a master ready for future technology.A 70mm film can be scanned up to 8k digital resolution, this was done with Baraka. The result is nothing but spectacular. |

Hi guys, how's everyone? Who's in the 500 BD club now?
Just wondering, anybody bought the new packaging of Battlestar Galactica Complete Series UK edition? Can help me and post some pics of the packaging, just wondering how big the box is. I'm hoping it will fit nicely with my other BDs. Not interested in the new US packaging, I need a booklet that lists all the episodes/discs and descriptions. The new US packaging has been confirmed by The Digital Bits that it will not include any booklet. I'm getting The Plan separately. Thanks guys. |

Coraline 3D uses the old anaglyph technology with the red/green glasses. The 3D that we're talking about with Avatar uses the new technology with polarized glasses. You'll need a new BD player or firmware upgradable current players like the PS3 (new firmware with this 3D capability is reportedly coming this summer). You'll also need to upgrade your TV, and possibly the AV receiver too ( Sony however claims their players will be able to send 3D data via current HDMI 1.3 instead of 1.4).
So far no titles with this technology has been released yet, though the BDA has finalised the 3D specifications and many manufacturers have already announced the new players. Avatar might not be the first titles to use the new 3D technology. |

I've seen and hold the tin packaging of the UK BSG, to me it's ugly and when you open looks like a fridge. I don't like it. The tin is so thin and fragile it looks cheap, but that's just my own opinion so others might find it to their liking. Me, the biggest steelbook I could ever accept is the Band of Brothers.
This is why I've been holding off from buying the set, I don't like the US old packaging as well, even more so when they don't include any booklet. I'm buying this new UK set, I already have The Plan coming this Thursday. |
