I usually don't fan the flames, but here's Ars Technica's review as a followup:

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/ps3.ars

Not going to comment yet, but it's a great objective review of the PS3 as it is NOW.

a legitimate gaming market in china is gonna dwarf even the 'japanese+korea+rest of asia' gaming market. something for game companies to think abt, eh?

Geezzee can't with stand this kind of next generation console hype nowadays. Feel like getting my hand on Xbox 360 since this is the most affordable and steady platform around.

PS3... probably another 10-12 months from now.

Wii... probably another 6 months till price is more steady and public review on the games and online support they build.

I'd like to add it's something for CONSUMERS to think about as well.

Are we there yet? Would we fork out the RM for legitimate software even if the prices go down to RM 50-80?

I can only say what's happening in China is a good thing - and maybe one day Malaysia will be counted as a nation to officially launch consoles in.

Blue dragon is famous because of akira toriyama.......

If its not for him, I think this game wont be so well known and generate hype in japan.....

I think you're missing another selling point. The person who founded the company(Mistwalker) is the creator of the Final Fantasy series.. Hironobu Sakaguchi..

So art direction doesn't only sell this game, but the concept and direction that Hironobu Sakaguchi and his team are doing.

Hmm i tried to refrain from coming in here but I can't help myself lol..

Console wars, i hate it...

IMHO :

Xbox360 : Unbeatable online gaming and overall online experience
Wii : Fun innovative gameplay, easy to pick up..
PS3 : Great "branded" (don't know the better word for it) games that are enough to make people buy a console just for it (MGS, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy etc)

so imho each machine got their own abilities.. if you are a rich dude, i'll say buy all three..

else

buy one first and slowly work your way up the three (I would say buy x360 for the bigger library of games to keep you occupied until you can buy anoher console and another )

Now, if i can force this thought into the world, we would have world peace!!!!!!

Since everyone loves to believe that Japanese companies tend to produce better games, this is why Microsoft might just be able to stay ahead of Sony:

1. Developer Tri-Ace, known for its work on Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean, announced that it is working with Microsoft Game Studios on a new yet to be titled RPG.

2. Square Enix and Game Arts announced Project Sylph, an XBOX 360 exclusive title.

3. Bandai Namco said remake of Pac Man and Galaga would be available on XBOX Live. They also announced a shooting adventure game called Zegapin XOR and Culdcept Saga, a Live-enabled game.

4. As we all know, FF creator Hironobu Sakaguchi said Blue Dragon is on track for the December release and his second game Lost Odyssey is slated for a 2007 launch. He also revealed that his company Mistwalker is working on a third 360 game called Cry On.

The PS3's whole online experience feels tacked-on and unpolished. On the Xbox 360 each user has a single unified friends list, so you can track your friends and communicate with them easily, no matter what game you are in. On the PlayStation 3 most games have their own separate friends list and some have no friends function at all. There is a master list as well, but in order to communicate with anyone on it, you have to quit the game you are playing.
stop and quit the game and go back to dashboard so that you can check the msg you got from copperhead BOB only to see that it was a SPAM? shakehead.gif

what if you in multiplayer game and you got a msg, quit the game and check one msg or ignore it and hoping that the msg is unimportant?

I do know hironobu sakaguchi the creator is developing blue dragon. But I feel he lost his touch after he leaves Square Enix.

Consider his flop in FF:The spirit within.

Well, the thing that I say Akira Toriyama behind it is the selling point is because the other game developed by mistwalker, The lost odyssey didnt gain much attention as Blue dragon.......

I thought that's because the Lost Odyssey is not due for release until sometime next year? Of course gamer will pay more attention to game that is going to be released first.

PS3 loses more exclusives

user posted imageuser posted imageuser posted image

It's said that the rats are the first to abandon a sinking ship. While not rats, publishers are beginning to abandon the PS3 after its less than impressive launch launch and news of production woes. Three titles have pulled up stakes and moved to the Xbox 360 (as cross-platform).

Koei, long time PlayStation supporter (and company frequently billed as key support to win the generation) has pulled Fatal Inertia and Blade Storm: The Hundred Years' War from the PS3 exclusive list and plopped them squarely into the Xbox 360 camp. Another PlayStation staple, the Armored Core series, is also coming to the white box in the form of Armored Core 4.

Sony is going to be in for a difficult battle if key players keep moving over party lines; Microsoft is doing far better coaxing exclusive content over to the 360. If Sony continues to lose its differentiation, why should gamers continue to shell out up to $200 more just to play the same games? Enjoy this machine translation for those who can't read Japanese.

I dont think that Lost odyssey didnt generate alot of hype because its gonna release next year and blue dragon release around end of this year.....
If you read the poll on famitsu about the most wanted list game in jap, Famitsu most wanted list No lost odyssey on the top 10, not even top 20.......

But I liked the style and graphics of Blue dragon......The plot seems ok, well at least it runs away of the typical dragon quest series or dragon ball type of story.

The game i wanted to play most on PS3 is MGS4 and ninja gaiden sigma.

On the xbox360, gears of wars and the lost planet.

and Wii, just Zelda.

Resistance = 17.75GB of garbage?

user posted image

Resistance: Fall of Man was billed to be the defining game for why Blu-ray exists in the first place. Resistance developers Insomniac stated that the game took up 22GB of space and that all those bits and bytes were necessary to make the game work. It would seem that ripping the disk in Linux shows otherwise.

A NeoGAF forum member by the name of squatingyeti posted a long list of padding files on the Resistance disk; the padding took up approximately 17.75GB of space. Padding is frequently used to push data to the outer edges of the disk to improve read times, but Blu-ray is supposed to be a constant read over the entire disk.

It is possible that the data isn't fully true and we would like to see some confirmation. However, if this report that 81% of Resistance is just empty filler and could fit on a single-layer DVD is true, will this put a hole in Sony's claim that Blu-ray is absolutely necessary this generation? The padding isn't needed to make the read speeds any better and (if true) is a lame way for Sony to justify Blu-ray for gaming.

Lol, Sony has been deceiving us all this time. It's no surprise about this news as most games for PSP UMDs also have that wasted padding files.
