I can't stand all this fanboism. Why can't they just go play their favorite console and leave the others alone? doh.gif

I almost went into a fight with my roommate just now. What caused it? I told him I want to buy Xbox 360. He told me I should just wait for Wii or PS3. When I told him I'm going to get all 3 consoles, he said PS3 is better than Xbox 360 because of Blu-Ray, and I should just save my money till PS3 launched.

Excuse me; tell me again why Blu-Ray is better? Because it has bigger capacity compared to Xbox 360's "old" DVD9 discs? To me, the extra space Blu-Ray has to offer is only good for storing pre-rendered cut scenes. But with the rendering power that Xbox 360 and PS3 have, I don't think pre-rendered cut scenes are necessary; real-time cut scene will suffice. And let's say in the future, DVD9 storage is not enough, they can always use multiple discs. I don't see people complaining when Final Fantasy 8 are released on 4 discs; so why complain now?

Then he asks how much Xbox 360 and its game would cost. I told him around RM 1500 for the console; and around RM 150 for a game. He said it was expensive. Then I told him that PS3 is even more expensive. USD 599 for the console, and the games are rumored to be USD 99.99 each. He said it was cheap. I found it funny hearing that from someone who never bought an original game before (well, he have 1 original PSP game that he uses to boot pirated game from his PSP memory stick if that even counts as contribution to games developer).

Then he asks what game I want to play on Xbox 360. I told him Dead or Alive 4, Enchanted Arms, Ninety-Nine Nights, Kameo, etc. Then I showed him a gameplay video of Dead or Alive 4. He commented, "The gameplay is normal; nothing special about it". I said, "I know you'll like the game if it's made for PS3 instead." He smiled.

I don't know what his problem. I want to buy Xbox 360. It's my money. And like I said before, I'll eventually buy all 3 consoles; which means I'll even buy the PS3 that he worships so much. So, what's the problem? He makes me feel uneasy. I have a feeling that when I finally bought Xbox 360, he will continue all his Sony fanboism (although I think the real fanboy should support the company that they worship by getting the original games) and I'll go crazy. rclxub.gif

Okay, maybe this post make me look like I'm a Microsoft fanboy, believe me, I'm not. I love all 3 consoles, and will eventually get PS3 and Wii when a game that I like launches on that console. I love Dead or Alive, when it goes to Xbox, I bought an Xbox; and I love Final Fantasy, since it's on Sony's console, I'll get the console. True gamer goes where the game goes, and not b**** the game because it's not on the console that they like / own. doh.gif

QUOTE(Matrix @ Jul 14 2006, 03:18 PM)
Stay kool. There'll always be people like that. But i bet he won't be much of a fanboy once he found the PS3 to cost RM3000+ (Possibly 3.5 to 4K when going by the initial batches which is usually expensive as our local shops rush to grab their hands on a few units).
*
Told him that, he said since the PS3 price is USD 599, it'll be ONLY RM 2216.30 here. He didn't believe me when I told the shops here will mark-up the price to at least around RM 3k. shakehead.gif

QUOTE(Matrix @ Jul 14 2006, 03:18 PM)
And hear this...you should tell him that PS3 will probably not have *ahem* for a very long while as it'll take years for Blue-Ray disc to be mass market...LOL. That should change his tune.
*
Told him that, didn't work. He actually criticizes me for choosing to buy a console with no modchip. Everyday he will say, "Don't buy Xbox 360, no modchip, waste of money" To actually believe he's studying Game Design ....... shocking.gif

I think you should just leave your "friend" there to rot in his little hole....LOL.
*
I've left him alone (as in didn't talk to him), but he keep bugging me and there's nothing I can do. I can't change room / roommate; my campus' policy.

QUOTE(PrivateJohn @ Jul 15 2006, 01:04 AM)
Well, just buy it...take it easy, play infront of him.
*
I've shown him some gameplay video (GRAW, DOA4, Mass Effect, Lost Planet) and obviously he's impressed by it (although he didn't admit, but I can see he's impressed).

I've shown him a comparasion of Xbox 360's spec vs PS3's spec and he didn't believe me when I told him both console have almost the same power. He also didn't belive that PS3's GPU is based on NV47 (which is GeForce 7). His defense is that PS3 spec isn't finalised yet. If the spec isn't finalised, when will they start manufacturing PS3? How can they get enough unit for launch if they didn't start manufacturing already? doh.gif

One wierd thing is; he's actually considering to buy an Xbox 360 (originally he wants to ge to new PC) after considering Xbox 360 is cheaper than a High-End graphic card. Then later, he said he'll get a PC because I'm going to get an Xbox 360 and because I'm his roommate, he can tumpang play mine. Then after a few moments, he starts to bash Xbox 360 and start his PS3 worshiping.

Till this day, I don't know whether he actually love or hate Xbox 360. But one thing for sure, I know he'll only buy PS3 when a modchip is available.

Then when launch we will have

[WTS] Rare PS3 with 8 cell core (compare to norm 7 core).

I think the 8th core will be useless unless the application (games, etc) can actually take advantage of the 8th core.

I'd get a 360 when the price comes down slightly lower.. Near 1k, and I'm sold. laugh.gif

IINM Djinn posted at Xbox thread that Japanese premium now can get around RM 900 only. But I don't know whether the step-down transformer is included or not.

And I already know why my roommate suddenly considering to buy Xbox 360. He played his lecturer's Xbox 360, and loves it. But now, he said he want to get a new PC instead, but he keep pushing me to buy Xbox 360 quickly.

Hehe, if everything goes well, I'll have the money by 27th July (next week's thursday). thumbup.gif

MMU Cyberjaya. The one who played the lecturer's Xbox 360 wasn't me, but my roommate. He's majoring in "Software Engineering & Game Design". So it's not unusual for his lecturers to have gaming consoles and let the students to play with them.

I think la I know why some gamer do not like Xbox 360. The only reason i can think is there is no Modded Version. HAhahahahah. As if PS3 will have the modded version dalam masa terdekat.
*
I don't care if got modded version or not, if the console got games that I want to play I'll buy it no matter got modded version or not. thumbup.gif

Setupid! The best way is to play all the systems available. Fanboyism is stupid. Good for nothing.

Yah, I wish they'll just shut up and play thier favourite console, no need to bash owner / lover of other consoles. sad.gif

QUOTE(Darkchaser @ Jul 21 2006, 02:40 PM)
I think the 360's main pull is Live, and Malaysians cannot really see how great Live is. I'm sure most 360 owners here bought their machines with Live in mind.
*
Yah, every time I talk about Xbox 360 / Live they just say PS2 can do it to (Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, SOCOM) and it's not fun to them because they have to buy ori game / get unmoded console / pay online fees. doh.gif

QUOTE(Darkchaser @ Jul 21 2006, 02:40 PM)
I know for me, 50% of the reason was because of Live, the other 50% was DOA4  tongue.gif

For me, the main reason of getting 360 is DOA4. About Xbox Live, I'm attracted to downloadable contents. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(necromanser @ Jul 21 2006, 03:50 PM)
But then try la and modd the box. Nanti takde live. Tak kool la itu macam.

Every time I talk about Xbox 360 / Live to my friends, they just don't care if they got no Live connectivity as long as they can play *ahem* games.

Microsoft said no price drop this year.

But there's a rumour that instead of dropping Xbox 360's price, they'll include a free Project Gotham Racing 3 with every purchase of Xbox 360. But for now, it's just a rumour.

Rm1400 now? <==lowest price?

Xbox 360 Asia Premium is selling for around RM 1400, but some shop sell as low as RM 1300. You have to go every shop and ask their best price.

If you want cheaper, you can buy Xbox 360 Japanese console, around RM 900 only. But the downside, you have to use stepdown-transformer which is bulky and inconvinient.

Playstation 3 Online to Have "Entitlements"

QUOTE
Somehow I'm not surprised. According to a post over on Evil Avatar, the latest EGM podcast says Sony will have an Achievement clone called "Entitlements" for the Playstation 3. Bit of a strange name in my opinion. I like the term "Achievements" because it describes awards you earn for doing things in the game. "Entitlements" somehow sounds like something you're, well, entitled to... perhaps even without having to play. Anyway, guess I was right on the prediction,...

Source

Sony is copying everybody's idea, yet they are so arrogant. vmad.gif

For those who doesn't know, Achievement was one of Xbox 360's innovation.

Xbox Games Grew 77% Over System Life-Cycle, Suggests 360 DVDs Are (Mostly) Big Enough for Next-Generation

QUOTE
Much debate has gone into whether or not the DVD9 format is too small for next generation titles. Looking over the data, it's fairly evident that in fact DVD9 is not too small for next generation games as much as it was too big for the last generation's. Very few games on the original Xbox came close to pushing the limits of the DVD9 format, leaving plenty of room for growth for the Xbox 360.

Undoubtedly, games will grow. However, technology designed to keep them small and compact will grow as well. In many ways, the debate over Microsoft's handling of the DVD9 and HDDVD formats is simply a matter of a red herring. People see it and worry about it, but there is little data to suggest there will actually be a problem with it.

The PS3 will be able to store more data with their blu-ray discs, but that won't necessarily mean that they'll be any less limited in their creativity. It might simply give developers more room to be sloppy in their programing.

PS3 Game Takes 22 Gigs on Blu-ray Disc

QUOTE
Resistance: Fall of Man is one of the PS3's key launch titles

user posted image

The revelation comes from an article posted by MTV News, which details some brief statements from Insomniac Games' spokesperson Ryan Schneider. "We're going to fit more on a Blu-Ray disc than you could on an HD DVD," he told MTV.

The HD DVD and Blu-ray formats are competing disc technologies. HD DVD handles about 15 gigabytes; the Blu-ray can handle 25 gigabytes. In comparison, the biggest PC games top out at around 7 gigabytes -- less than a third the size of PS3 exclusive Resistance, estimated at 22 gigabyes.

The massive storage size for the final version of Resistance (which the article says are "thanks to high-res graphics and orchestral music") could serve as a potent response to concerns that Sony's Blu-ray format has no benefit for gamers. In contrast, the Xbox 360 can only hold up to 8 gigabytes per game disc.

Other key details from the article:

    * motion-sensing functions will allow you to rifle butt aliens by jabbing out one side of the PS3 controller
    * Sony claims that the online experience will exceed Xbox Live titles
    * 40-player online games, with some form of ranking system

Hi guyz. Just for information. There is already 2 vs of the Xbox360 in the market now.

1) The original Xbox360 (Asian set) is around RM1300 found at Sg Wang.
    - Play original game only
2) Flash original Xbox360 (Asian set) is around RM1500-RM1600 also found at Sg Wang
    - Can play ahemm games (around RM25-35) and original game.
    - If u want to play live, make sure u bought only original game
    - If no live, up to u ler..

Conclusion : hemm i think better go for flash machine. ooopss  sweat.gif
*
This is just stupid because they're charging you extra RM 200 - RM 300 for something you can do yourself at home.

I won't go for flashed Xbox 360 because:

1) No Xbox Live, and if you think Xbox Live is just about online multiplayer games, you're wrong. They also have Xbox Live Marketplace (download games content, game demo, trailer, XBLA games), friend list, voice chat, game updates, and more.

2) Some game requires you to update your system to play. If you don't update your system, the game won't boot. What if one day Microsoft includes an update that disables your flashed drive? You won't play that game?

3) Almost the same as reason number 2. Microsoft will release system update via Xbox Live. What if one day they include an update that disables your flashed drive?

Maybe it's true during Japanese launch on November 11th, but the console will be released simultaneously in North America, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand on November 17th, just 6 days after Japanese launch. I think there will be English games on November 17th.

1999? You mean PS2 vs Xbox vs GameCube? The console war means nothing to me, I owned all those 3 consoles. tongue.gif

EDIT

To own all 3 consoles last gen, we only need USD 800 (based on launch price), but this time, we need around USD 1250 (PS3 = USD 600, Xbox 360 = USD 400, Wii = estimated USD 250). shocking.gif

Hopefully this time I have enough to purchase PS3 & Wii. sweat.gif I already have Xbox 360.

Sony: 1080p Still in the Air

Summary:

Currently with only one game running at 1080p, Sony still boasts that HDMI and the PS3 is the source of a true HD experience. One developer, however, claims that reaching smooth frame rates at that resolution is "almost impossible."

Full Text:

user posted image

Reaching good frame rates at 1080p with next-gen graphics is almost impossible."

--Anonymous developer to Kikizo

After the surprise upset last week that the high-end PS3 model will not be shipping with HDMI cables, SCEE spokesperson Jonathan Fargher clarified with Kikizo that Sony has modified the ICT to allow 1080p signals to bypass the HDMI requirements. This way you can view Blu-ray movies or PS3 games that permit a 1080p output.

The problem is there is only one game running at 1080p at the moment, which is Gran Turismo HD. And unless you're using the PS3 as a Blu-ray movie platform, according to Fargher, there won't be much 1080p content for awhile.

The reason for this is, an anonymous development source told Kikizo, "even with [final hardware] in mind, reaching good frame rates at 1080p with next-gen graphics is almost impossible."

Denis Dyack: 360, PS3 Are Equals

The head of Silicon Knights says it's a wash between the next-gen consoles.

Silicon Knights, makers of Eternal Darkness, are readying the forever-in-development Too Human for the Xbox 360, as well as an unannounced title for the PlayStation 3. Speaking to the San Jose Mercury News, the company's President, Denis Dyack, says the next-generation systems are virtually identical in terms of power.

"The 360 and the PS3 are equal in power in my eyes," Dyack says. "Maybe the PS3 has more processing power. The 360 has more available memory. It's pretty much a net, net. The public perception of the PS3 was that it was much more powerful. To developers, they look even."

Silicon Knights had a working relationship with Nintendo for several years, making Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for the GameCube. That partnership ended in 2004, though, and Dyack says he has no current plans to develop for the Wii. Too Human is planned as a trilogy for the Xbox 360.
