You got to remember the fact that majority of the gamers who own consoles nowadays are not kids.. Most of them are young adults... Thats why more n more games company are aiming toward the more matured market... These target market mostly have the abilities to buy their own consoles... Such as us... We dont need our permission to buy the console nor ask them money to buy one ... Unless of course u are still asking money from ur parent to buy one or need their permission to do so...

To discriminate early adopters is unfair.. Because early adopters represent quite a sum of people... not just a few... You want to discriminate early adopters just because they are a few millions of them... Hmm... U get the point... In fact, early adopters are very important since they could help in making the product to a success or flop... Any feedback from these early adopters will affect the sales of the product... Hence this early adopters are the people who u should thank for. .. They are the one who bares the risk of not getting their money worth when they adopt the new products... N they usually tell us whether the product is good or not.. and we usually take their opinion before we buy ...

I didn't say discriminate EARLY ADOPTERS. I said to discriminate BETWEEN them and regular people so we can understand the bigger picture. Try reading slowly.

Like it or not, even though you belong to this so-called "young-adult" demographic that makes a bundle and buys every single console release the day they launch, when the PS3 launches families are going to feel the pinch. They're gonna stop before spending the USD 600 on an Xmas gift and think about their purchase really really hard.

Sure, early adopters fulfill an important role - but just how many are there compared to regular people? How many of your friends/colleagues/relatives know about/care about Bluray? So my argument still stands - it's gonna take a LOT of convincing before people start buying your much-worshipped PS3 in droves.

It might be cheaper by the time it launch. Because America now are trying to lower down their exchange rate so any console might be cheaper.

If you want to compare young adult to family... re-think again... 2 out of 3 of the new console right now is designed and targeted the "young-adult" demographic... How many of the 360 games and the PS3 upcoming lineup that u see is designed for "family". Right now the only consoles that concentrate their lineup to be fun for the whole family is Wii. And Nintendo implies a different approach to gaming this time.. by going back to basic... making the game fun and simple... that is why the Wii doesnt emphasize the raw power of the machine.. instead they put it all in the game itself and how you play it...

So all and all... only Nintendo that really targetting the family side of the market in addition to the young-adult... its not that Sony n Msoft didnt want the family market.. but they didnt emphasize that category...

U might not care about the bluray or even the HD-DVD... not to say that i care that much about both format... to some people they just dont care if PS3 have it or not... yet I dont think Sony needs to convince the 120 millions owners of PS2 to buy PS3.. its Msoft and Nintendo that needs to convince them not to select PS3... Most PS2 owners are still looking forward for PS3...

If u want my honest opinion... yeah i do opted for Sony this gen until Msoft or Nintendo could convince me otherwise... the PS2 has proven its worth last gen... and the XBox fall quite far behind... for this gen.. again i will acquire both or even all 3 of them... and see which one is better... all this competition is bringing out the best in each company... its good... i even want to see Nintendo become a top competitors again in this industry... not just trailing behind Msoft and Sony...

Friend, you got it all wrong. Read Lord's Ashe post again. I think u got all hung up with the word "Discriminate". Mainly because we see it everyday in things like "racial discrimination", "Sexual discrimination" etc etc. From your post, i think your understanding of the word used there is as per it's a racial/sexual discrimination kind of thing.

But i believe what Lord Ashe meaning of the word here is to use as "to distingusih" or "to differentiate", which is also the other meaning of the word.

Well, in any case, if you've read IGN's report on Sony's financials this year we all can agree that Sony's betting the bank on this one - and we may see the results of that gamble by Xmas.

I do know what he means by that... but like i said.. u cant discriminate them or in the "corrected" term differentiate... its a part of the market.. n an important part by that... if u make a market research.. n u eliminate this group as a factor... then it wouldnt be a thorough market report.. u couldnt even set this group aside even when u are generally speaking...

A buyer is still a customer n consumer... n thats what makes the market... so.. when ur saying like that.. its make no sense... n BTW if u differentiate them from the rest of the world.. then who r u going to compare the rest of the world with...

I agree with the part where Sony is taking a huge gamble with PS3... but christmas is too early to tell... u need at least a year of the product life on the shelf to see whether Sony is doing it right or wrong... I hate to see them do it wrong.. If Sony flops... then there goes another alternatives to things that are not MSoft... too many MSoft nowadays.. they even make money out of their own mistake.. haiya.. very crappy

Incidentally, i've made a lot of SONY purchase recently...SONY HDTV, SONY DigiCam and recently SONY-ERICSSON HP.

Somehow, the features/price/quality just fits after my pre-purchase research.

on the other hand.. its true sony is everywhere too.. but there are other alternativesto sony rite... Sony got tv.. other company got too.. sony got hp.. other company got too... so theyre not monopolying the market...

BTW the reason im not to eager about 360 is not that i hate Msoft... but Sony has proven its worth in the console industry... and im disspointed by last gen xbox... the exclusive isnt that great and some of it made it to the pc... i really like to play games.. so there is no use for me to buy another system that have games that available on another platform rite... i wasted a lot of my pc power to play games that available on pc with my xbox..

Anyway.. rite now im eager to see more of Crysis.. no matter which platform it hits... it sure gonna be supercool...

Actually, in defence of MS, all those virus and spyware isn't really an O/S weakness. The reason there's so much virus and spyware for MS platforms are:
(1) >90% of PCs are running Windoze. Hackers want to attack the largest group, not the smallest group.

(2) People are jealous of Bill and wants to make Windoze and Bill Gates miserable. This is always the sympton. When you're big and rich, you're always the target for people to spit on.

(3) Other O/S have virus and spyware as well ex: Linux. The reason there is less on those platforms is because of reason (1) and (2) above.

If tomorrow Linux dominates the market and windows becomes the small players, rest assured all the Hackers will be targeting Linux instead of Windoze.

On a related note, the reason why Sony's receiving such a bashing is that they seem to be thumbing their nose at their 100 mill (or so) installed fanbase by reducing features and releasing statements that smack of arrogance.

While MS isn't much better in terms of business practices the 360 IS a good console. I'm more of a Nintendo guy, but if given a choice between a console I KNOW has good games available now and soon and one that has promised a lot then underdelivered, MS has my RM 1400 at least till Sony reveals what their real intentions are.
