He's considering A550, since that's body only. he'll need to find a lense.

Kmarc
You're buying to shoot your kid. Forget about the 50mm, go for the kit 1855 + F20 flash. Then worry about other things.

Can't remember who was asking why 1855 instead of 1870, because 1855 is newer mar.. tongue.gif It's also slightly better right? Personally I don't know since I only had the 1870.

It claims that you'll have a rock solid stability. Hence put IS/VR/SSS to obsolete . Perhaps can do light trails using hand held only laugh.gif

p.s: phiten is base on titanium that has gone thru phild process and NOT some snake oil...sigh...u'll need to get ur facts straight...

You need to stabilize your camera using tripod in order to catch a clean light trail. yes the light is moving but your camera needs to be rock solid static. I am half sold on this. If its a placebo effect it is a good placebo effect imho. So if can try first definitely going to get it. laugh.gif

Nope. I don't have a kitlens or even a DSLR!!!! sweat.gif I have a digital compact camera that cost me RM799..... whistling.gif

kmarc: The point of the 50mm is that it's F1.8 and lets you avoid using flash in low light. However it's not for group shots. You'll still need the kit lens at least.

Thanx for the clarification. That lens would be good for taking my baby's picture.

Right. After all the poisoning and advices (which I really appreciate notworthy.gif ), I have decided to get this (unless I changed my mind again):
1) A550
2) The 50 mm f1.8
3) The 1855
4) F20 flash

Any other poison for me? cry.gif Anyway, I still have one week before the stock comes to Sibu. Still have time to poison me.... whistling.gif

My bad, I wanted to refer to the power balance thing. Not the Phiten one. But the reply didn't show back the video.

OK ok, my bad for imposing my thoughts that this is a less than useful topic on everyone else. cry.gif

Do you really need F20? Why not straight away use F42 (considering F58 is too much). I've read about F20 and it got bad reviews in term of power. Other than the ability to bounce , the power is somewhat equal as you pop up flash. Considering how high your ceiling will be does the power is enough bounce back to your subject? Correct me if i am wrong ya.

I feel that if you're on a budget you should leave the 50mm first, unless that's part of the package and you don't have a choice lar. Then again...

Basically so if you need something to INSTANTLY justify the price of the SLR. The first shot you need to take with the 50mm is of your kid's face.. up close.. switch camera to A mode, turn the dial on your right hand to the left until the screen says F1.8 and take the picture, oh.. make sure the background got things so can see the bokeh effect.

Then show your wife the creamy bokeh shot and she will immediately say "Wow.. thats the quality of an SLR lar?"

Doesn't work if your wife reads LowYat.net lar. tongue.gif

Thats why. F20 is meant to be a flash commander for high end bodies that don't have popup flash. But yeah its all in your expectation. I am just another insight. Its better to read around first before regrets purchasing it.

Increasing Flash compenstation strength in the camera seems to be the key to increasing the F20's power. I guess I should do some systematic testing to confirm that. But I do know that when I step up the Flash fill in stength in the camera the F20 does whirl louder, and it blinds people more. tongue.gif

The other reason is that KMarc is using the camera to take pictures of his kid. Bulky camera + Bulky lens + Bulky flash = LOW Spouse Acceptance Factor. Only with the F20 did my wife finally decide to use my A350 to take pictures last time. She didn't want to hold it with the F32 err.. 36.. the older flash tongue.gif

since you ask for poison... my suggestion is
1) A550
2) CZ1680 drool.gif or Tamron 1750 f2.8
3) F58 flash drool.gif

thumbup.gif

nb: is the CZ A550 package still available ?
