depends on your budget i think the a550 does not come with any lens. u should try to ask from shops other than sony style. they usually will ahve cheaper price, last checked from garage sales, zaloon studio selling a550 body for rm2600 only.

I read some reviews on those 2 models few days back...the only main factor that u should consider is that the a380 uses a normal CCD whereas the a550 uses ExmorR cmos. With exmor, u'll get a faster fps ie:faster speed, during burst and also, it should future prove for quite sometime =D Btw, im saving for that 550

kmarc: Not true, Sony service is pretty good. If anything you can say there are more delays getting your stuff back from Nikon (I had a Coolpix 2200 sit with them over a year, and a common problem with the SB-600 is the flash head - one SB-600 was with Nikon for almost a year. And my SB-28 never got its battery cover.)

kmarc: In flourescent light, you will want to use a slower shutter speed (at least 1/50s) to get even lighting - flourescent light flickers 50 times a second. AWB with flourescent light generally looks okay but if you're not sure, use the Flourescent WB or set the temperature in Kelvin WB while using Live View to get a very accurate WB.

use something to distract her..so that she would stay here for a lil while longer...or u can *poisoning* get a flash =D

yea..sometimes direct flash might make ur shots unnatural..but u can always bounce it..or use gel to blend into ur ambient lighting..
i shoot my cousins' children pretty often but night time isnt my fav time..lol..i usually shoot them in the mornin/afternoon..

Trying to shoot kids indoors WITHOUT a Flash and at Low ISO is a futile effort. You're gonna need either the Flash (bounce, not direct) or high ISO. Which could be ISO 800+

kmarc: Actually it should be fine lah. Just that flourescent light flickers so don't expect consistent color and light at faster shutter speeds. A bright prime lens would be best, e.g. 50mm F1.8 DT SAM on a budget.

Actually compact cameras are OK, just that while typically they can adjust their Flash intensity well enough the cycle time between shots is a bit slow for baby photos. That was why i bought my first DSLR last time.

If you're in doors and you don't plain to shoot in Potrait orientation much, you can get a F20AM flash and use the money for a better lens, a 50MM is quite close if you're indoors and trying to get pictures of your baby doing things.

I'd suggest the 18250 for the first time user that needs a lens. But I guess if you just need to try your hand at taking pics first, trying to find the new 1855 kit lens also can lar.

Just bought A550 and A700

Personally I feel that a person shouldn't only have a fixed length lens if they're just learning photography, but that's just me.

Also.. I'm telling you to get the KIT lens 1855. No poison there, it's just that the A550 doesn't have a lens with it, so I was thinking that should be best for you to learn with.

kmarc sounds like a father who first time want to experiment with a DSLR camera to take pictures of his kid. So he doesn't really know what all the range numbers means, therefore b4 he commits to a fixed length think he should use a variable length first.

And of course, personally I find a 50mm way too tele to take my son's action shots. I can't stand 5 meters away from him all the time to take photos

U shud start off with the kitlens lar. It's crazy to start with a 50mm. It's so limiting especially on a crop body.
