dun wan, i scared! last time i made him angry (i punished him by making him wait half an hour for his dinner cause he was notti) he tak layan me the whole nite. i tried later to pujuk him by giving him his fav treat but he glared at me, ignored the treat and showed me his butt.

Hello, i'm new to here. But i have bad news and want to seek opinion.

My rabbit, ok it's not mine, my sis's, the rabbit(Buck) got bitten by my hse stupid dog!!! huhuhuhu and now his hind legs paralyzed. =( He can only crawl with the front 2 legs huhuhuh... so so sad to see this!

So I suspected the back bone fractured. Able to heal that? I have no experience of taking care of pet nor going to vet. I'm so sad to see the rabbit this way. My sis abandoned him going to China for work. So irresponsible.But i'm not good at it. He injured when my dad released him from cage and played around in a gated compound. =( Please kindly advise. The incident happened on Wednesday evening.

Oh no....

That sounds like a broken back. Is he eating and drinking as usual? You can refer to the vets recommended on the first page. Please get him to the vet ASAP. Most probably the vet will try to do something to limit his movements. Try not to aggravate the problem by making him move too much.

from my 6th sense, i think my rabbit grunt because Mocha (Holland Lop male) left her.Even Mocha with her for few days only, rabbit also like human. they need companion.

I have no choice now but send to vet. But i wonder vet can help with broken back. (if it is really there broken). I've read somewhere about paralysis, here it said that rabbits may lose their control over bowel and bladder movements.

Do you know roughly how much for radiography?

If u suspect broken bone, maybe u can try to go to UPM Veterinary Clinic bcoz i believe they have complete/more equipment.

I've read someone's blog that her rabbits has injured and infected leg. She sent her there. The rabbit get amputated, but survived and success. I read form cats and dogs forum, they'll recommend UPM Vet Clinic if anything related to bone.


Sangterap, do u think Dr L&L (Sb's vet) can help her? They're good with rabbits, rite?

Added on October 22, 2010, 11:02 amRoughly, the xray is about RM80. If the rabbit is comfirm with broken bone, the cost cud be up to 1k. But the best way is to take it to the vet first and get consult about the treatment and cost.

Thanks a bunch nicoty_yne!! I think i'll choose the UPM in Serdang coz it's nearer to me.
Actually i can't sure it is bone or not. I read some website it said that could be 2 reasons.


1)
Rabbit paralysis is normally seen in the hind quarters as the result of an injury in the lumbar region of the back. When a rabbit struggles to become free from whatever is holding it (owner or predator), the rabbit kicks out and pulls which can cause damage to the back. When the back sustains a fracture or break, the spinal cord becomes damaged thus leaving the rabbit with paralysis of the hind legs. Many times this type of injury can also cause the rabbit to lose their control over bowel and bladder movements.

2)
While trauma is normally the cause for this disorder, paralysis and hind-limb weakness can also affect a rabbit due to degenerated discs, parasites and bacterial infections. Arthritis and disc deterioration is a common ailment in older rabbits which leave a rabbit with weakness in the hind quarters. Owners may notice that their rabbit is unable to climb or move about as freely as they once were.

But in this case, i think should be the first one. =(

Yes, Cleo.. That is the one. For rabbits, i think is it Dr Lynette. I went there last year to get the injectable antibiotic for my rabbit's abscess. Not sure if they have equipment for fractured bone, but they're highly recommended for rabbits. Maybe u can call them 1st to make an appointment n to make sure Dr Lynette is around.

I called 2 vets today. Clinic PA dn Clinic G. They're most well-known vets around Penang. They have a very good names in treating cats and dogs and they have xray service for rabbits.

Vet #1 (PA) - they have isoflurane but they never use on rabbits. (In Penang, the vets here seldom/rarely seeing rabbits sending to their clinics). They said the xray can be taken without sedate the rabbits bcoz they said they have enough assistant to hold the rabbit.

Does anyone know exactly how they do the xray? I'm very curious. Do they need to make the rabbit pass out before taking xray?

Vet #2 (Clinic G) - long ago, they took rabbits for treatment. But some of the rabbits died under anesthetic (Yes, they're using injectable drug called Ketamyl *or ketamil, i cant remember exact spelling*. They said to take xray, the NEED TO sedate the animal before take xray but they CANT sedate the rabbit. (Bcoz they afraid they might loss the rabbits?)

I'm going to take Shiro to Vet#1. Pls pray for us.
