Maniacguys, I found your response really amusing biggrin.gif First you declared that phones should not compete. In the later part, you were comparing them which happens to be the reason of competition. lol. Competition is necessary for improvement (was discussed earlier in this thread) and we, the consumers are the main reason for this. Our requirements increase as new products are launched and hence, the competition never ends. I am not sure if there will be another rival to Android, iPhone, and Symbian (lets not talk about Blackberry, Palm and Winmo at all), but ever since Google announced that it will be making an OS for the mobile phones (somethere in Jan 2009 if I'm not mistaken), I already sold my soul to Google tongue.gif I ditched Symbian for Android actually and I have to say, it was a smart move to me.

Btw Maniacguys, I'm also crazy about Ferraris tongue.gif Its the only craze that overcomes any other craze for me. tongue.gif Saw that in your sig..hehe

lolx....i should have say that phone are not build for the fans to bashing each other tongue.gif

lolx...im not actually crazy about ferrari....im crazy to F1 and how kimi drive...unfortunately this season he no longer in F1..... tongue.gif off topic

I am not bashing each other. I just wanna send you guys back to reality where N1 is not that good after all.
Beside 3G problem, i see another bad review. http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/01/09/...rsonal-thoughts
*
please dude, why are you trying so hard to send us back to reality? is it becoz we dont want to accept that iphone is the best phone in the world?

imho, you dont need to do that. this is the android thread and we love android in here thats why we hype the phone that has android in it. because nexus one really is the best android phone yet.

i know iphone is great. or maybe perhaps it was great in 2007 when it first came out. but now it is just outdated. a lot of other hardware can match it and outperformed the iphone. so that is the true reality dude. but honestly, i cant wait to see what apple will do to improve the iphone. hardware wise and design wise. really they should change the design already coz a lot of china-knock-off-phone look exactly like the iphone nowadays. and perhaps put in some multitasking in so that we can alternate between our twittering and our facebooking and our farting apps.

in fact, we dont want to be trendy. now everyone wants the iphone/blackberry. and wherever you go you can see everyone so hyped about this two platform. so why cant we be excited about our platform that we love? no matter how imperfect it is?

please, no need to bash each other here. or even more, no need to bash the nexus one in here.

Whoa..So long replies..Interesting smile.gif

Okay, I will try to answer as much as possible to all the questions that are carried out..First of all, before SanosukeSagara gets mad at me for not answering his question again, "Why Nexus One does not have multi-touch"..Well, I didn't answer that because it was just answered a few posts before your question..lol..THe hardware is there, you just have to "unlock" it..Now when Apple has patented their multi-touch and think that no one else can use, Google had to remove it from the OS..Longer explaination, read on..

Let me tell you one interesting story my friend. iPhone did not break through anything special other than the multi-touch (which I even wonder if they made it first). When iPhone's first gen came out, its strongest rival at that time was? Right! It was the Nokia N95 smile.gif Remember the YouTube parody videos "I'm an Apple iPhone and I'm a Nokia N95"? Similar to the "Windows vs Mac" parody. That time, N95 stepped all over iPhone with every single features it had. Anything productive. N95 owned! Camera? Stereo sound? Multi-tasking? GPS? 3.5G? everything was led by N95 against iPhone. Only one thing iPhone had better over N95 and that was advertising in US. The "iphone virus" spread so fast, that in a matter of time, there were so many iPhone zombies. So, iPhone is NOT a breakthrough either for the fact. Oh, and now that we are talking about Nexus One NOT being unique form other Android phones, tell me my friend, what was so cool in iPhone 3GS over iPhone 3G? Processor? Apply back the same theory you specified about Pentium 4 smile.gif

For your points, let me take them one by one..Replied in Red

To me, N1 is a good phone with a relatively cheaper price too but also a sign of Google showing its evil tail. Google is selling this phone as the Google phone for few reasons (Google has every reason to be evil if thats the term we want to use here. They provide so many free services for us which we can't avoid. I bet you use Google products too don't you?):
1. The Android manufacturer is reluctant to update their device and the Google phones are the way Google whip them to update their phone by challenging their products with always updated Android phone. (I'm sorry, I don't get you in this point. If you're missing the point, HTC only "manufactured" Nexus One. Google owns it. From the name's trademark "Nexus One" all the way to the selling of the gadget itself. If you're talking about HTC not updating their products, I agree HTC is SLOW in updating their softwares, but bear in mind, they are working across other platforms like Winmo too)
2. Google Checkout has been a failure due to Paypal. People are using Paypal more than Google Checkout and Google is using the name of Android to bring out Google Checkout. I personally used Paypal for a lot times but Google Checkout only this once. (I use paypal too. And I make more than 50 transactions a month on PayPal. My business runs on PayPal. I knew the existance of Google Checkout too, but never had the urge to use it - until I stepped into Android world. If checkout starts getting more famous against PayPal just because of Android, I would seriously thank Android for that. Why? Once again, rivalling strives towards excellence. PayPal's charges are ridiculously high over each transaction. But since its the most famous online payment gateway, you just have to be dragged into using it for whatever they demand. Finally we will have a solid rival then. Thanks Android for that. Also, you never know if Android was part of Google's plan already before checkout was even made. They build a world of their own and use their OWN services unlike iPhone which has to use Google's products to achieve maximum functionality.
3. Google phone is the phone to promote Google product like Google Map, Google Voice, Google Earth, Google Navigation and Google Goggles. Yup! And your point is? We don't expect Apple to promote Google's product do we?lol
4. Make use of its fan base to heighten up their reputation. Thats how every company excels. Fans are the ones who make a company famous. They wouldn't have us if they didn't made great products in the first place. You got a competitor in mind that has made all these products so far other than Google? smile.gif

In the second part that you specified..

For those like Shahz who think Android is the triumph in the future, I doubt it will be based on several reasons:
1. Android is chasing the tail of Iphone OS with Iphone continuously making breakthrough, setting the standard and getting their patent. Tell me one breakthrough they have made other than the multi touch screen. lol. Remember, Android has speech to text feature which is also a breakthrough. I don't see much of its use yet, but its still something new if breakthrough is the concern.
2. Google has no real intention of making Android. (They do not put money to advertise and real breakthrough need lotsa money thats why Iphone is expensive) LOL..You're talking like you work in Google..haha..Dude, they made version 1.0 AND 2.0 within less than a year. They are working on it - really hard. They do spend the money on it. But they don't spread viruses like Apple via advertisment. Google is an advertisment itself. It doesn't need to spend money on advertising further. Internet has more users than TV now so what makes us think that TV advertising will thrive over internet? Oh, and you got any online advertising company better keyword-targetted, better potential, better than Adwords? Good luck in finding one smile.gif
3. Google core business is information based not computer product. Android is another platform for them to utilise their product. Yep, thats why they created Android OS (the software) and not the phone itself. They just do what they are best at. I dont see anything wrong here.
4. If Android fails, they still have ChromeOS. First, they are not related to each other. Second, Android is not going to fail. Its already on the rise. I could give you statistics if you want wink.gif
5. Most importantly, they have capture the wrong fans like Shahz who think Android is powerful because it can customize, mod and hack (and not iphone of course). I suggest you get a line of proof where you can prove that I even said this. Android is Open System. You don't have to go through a stupid jailbreaking process to get root access to it. It means "freedom" if you don't know why we mod our phones. Yes, Android at its failing point because of you guys. Dude! You are talking without any proof! Androids sales are increasing, Android fans are increasing. LYN Android thread is getting more members. PROOF man! Thats what we need! No one really wanna put money to promote and heighten the core competencies of Android because you guys view Android is another Google phone rather than a HTC phone or a Samsung phone or a Motorola phone. (We always address the phone with its NAME. We use terms like HTC Hero, Magic, Dream, Nexus One, etc. We never use the term "Android" unless we're referring to the whole category. You need to hang around here more before you could point finger at us like that! [/COLOR] These handphone manufacturer still need to compete between each other even they has Android phone series. If they put in cash to invest (like advertising and develop unique apps locked to their phones), and you guys hacked it and put it in other Android phone, its lost of investment for them. Says who? You're telling me that all this while, Windows Mobile devices were only produced by Windows? Or are you saying that Symbian was only made by Nokia? Or are you saying that Acer, Dell, HP, etc compete with each other because they use Windows OS in them? Are you from earth bro? In fact, you get choices to pick that one you like the most. Not everyone will like Nexus One, they can go with the Droid. Or Hero. Or Tattoo if they are lower on budget. Unlike iPhone, you just have to adapt to that look. No choice! It is the real scenario now. Later I will see Xperia x10 UI ported into a HTC Bravo or Motoblur from Motorola ported into this Nexus One. That sounds like fun to me. Because of that too they dont wanna invest in multitouch. If they wanna put multitouch in their phone is easy, they just need to pay royalty to Apple. Why would they pay iPhone when its their rival? Apple pays Google for using their services? No right? Verizon paid the royalty thats why Droid Eris got it. But why other phone manufacturer dont wanna pay for that? Because paying for that does not buy them the competitive advantage as you guys can hack it into multitouch in any Android phone. Yeah..So why bother? Thats the purpose of keeping the phone open system at the first place. Your only point is multitouch here. Seriously, my Hero has multitouch and I really dont use it at all. My macbook has multitouch touchpad but I personally use mouse coz I find it easier than the multi-touch.

Seriously dude, its not going to work here. If you want to go head to head with us, why not you get yourself iPhone and regret in the coming 3 years? Because Android is here to stay and we are their supporters. You can try as hard as you want, we will have an answer for everything. But please at least base your statements on true facts and proof.

Oh, and as far as your bad review link is concerned, don't make me post bad review links for iphone - a phone which cant even do multitasking at this generation! Everyone has their own opinions and just because a blogger says he don't like it and he sits in the same boat as you, that is not going to change anything for us. smile.gif I already told you, I dont have anything against iPhone, but you keep stating the points again and again which make me prove iPhone is not good. Why not you gather some iPhone fans in the iPhone board and bash Android there? You will get a lot more support than you will get here.

Here in Android world, we talk about performance. Speed. Multi-task. Internal stuff. Not some junior teenage show off trendy stuff. I don't want to be rude, but I was really disappointed with non-directional finger pointing towards Android. But then again, you cheer me up everytime you say I'm Google's maniac..Thanks for that at least..

I find it amusing for throwing strong opinions and preaching it. I have an iPhone, and i am willing to open for other possible improved phone. To me, N1 seems like an eligible target for a change. I like N1 voice to text esp when typing sms (and while *ahem* driving). Give or take? i rather have that than multitouch which i do not use that often. Not like N1 isn't capable of it, i am sure it will turn around soon to make it available. Motorola Driod in UK has it.

iPhone did has it share of pain when it was launched. Go google it.

Looking at the momentum of Andriod update, it is worth thinking again. It is showing dedication and commitment to improve on pronto.

Change of topic....
Come to think about it, N1 should have been released in Msia rather than Singapore as test market. Many SG telcos are already having very competitive plan:

http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/news/view.php?id=15241&cid=1

Some even offering iPhone for free, and very attractive data plan rate. Less people are willing to fork $ to get a new phone when iPhone is given free with data plan. Look at SG forums, lacking of interest on N1. Even Lowyat forum has more pages showing mass interest.

As for malaysia, it is stuck with Maxi$ and charging sky high for this device. It is as good as buying a new phone. Now if i do not have an iPhone yet, I don't mind looking at N1 as an option too since the upfront $ to pay for the phone is around there (i dare say cheaper for N1).

Too bad, Google tested market in the wrong country.

oreomambo, welcome to android community biggrin.gif We always love new members of course..You're right, they should've launched in Malaysia rather than Singapore..Malaysia is larger than Singapore as well..But actually, the reason behind this is we dont have Google Malaysia branch..Singapore has a branch..Thats why it was distributed there too smile.gif I think if one day Malaysia opens Google's office, I might just apply as their employee..lol

I also agree with your point about the price Maxis charge for iPhone..The money that they will get in commitment will benefit them way more than the price of the phone itself..They should really sell it at cheaper price..If Android comes into a different telco, the competition will be seriously awesome! I know I'll stick to Maxis, and buy unlocked phones unless they offer a solution though..hehe..Whats definite, is that as long as Maxis is in contract with Apple, they are definitely not going to sell Android..Which I think is Maxis' own loss..coz selling Android, they will have more opportunities and packages with fresh ideas all the time wink.gif I should be their CEO I guess..haha

Added on January 10, 2010, 6:12 pmbahathir, happy with the contents of the FTM? haha..to be honest, it was the first code I ran on my Hero too when I bought it biggrin.gif Same bad habit i guess? LOL

Alright. I shall begin from bottom to top. iPhones do not have voice to text feature on Standalone. You will need to install software like dragon dictation. I think apple will make it a core feature just like It did on multiple language
input.

iPhones by stock do not run the application entirely on the background. applications operate behind the notification feature. Which means some does run but they operate in minimal. Which means you still get the basic updates on notification.

Next is on the multitouch trade. If you ask me. I will not trade voice over text over multitouch. To me multitouch has been a great tool for navigation, as well as to assist in fast typing. Htc hero offers the best keyboard input with multitouch capabilities. To date accurracy of voice recognition isn't as accurate as it seems. I've tried winmo's voice command, symbians voice recognition, even the latest iPhones voice recognition but none of them seem practical for daily use. Don't turn your phone into a genie. Imagine yourself in the train talking to the phone. " zoom in" " next page" " go to www.Lowyat.net " "type honey I miss you so much". People either think you're trying to show off or being retarted. It's a good feature only to those whom are disabled. Basic quick feature to assist like the modern ones are adequate.

iPhones were never strong on the paper specs. They are strong because of the os as well as the supportive apps store and iTunes. Which is why even their first generation phone can experience the same firmware update as the rest of it's siblings. Andriod manufacturers have seen this as the key element on why iPhone has survived. Some announced that their latest phones running under cupcake and donut will eventually be upgradable to eclair. You can check out some reports from latest CES convention.

I'm keeping myself on the borderline. No Doubt nexus one is the best among the andriods to date. I would love to see how google is going to optimize the hardware to it's full glory. It's pointless to have a powerful device when it's only utilizing less than half of it's capabilties. Whether nexus one will win over iPhone we shall sit back and watch the next 6 months.

FTM smile.gif ... he heh he e.. That is my interest in all of my handphone that I owned... Starting from Nokia 3210 (yup the FIRST antenna-less Nokia phone), E52 (partial FTM) and theMotorola V3xx (partial EFEM), Now... Android!!!. I love looking at the 'CORRECT' signal strength, compared to BARs.

Yeah... everyone has their own preferences. Some like iphone, some like WinMo, some like Symbian, and some like Android.... Me? Except the WinMO, I love them all. Iphone? mmm... 50/50, because too proprietary, and no official client for GNU/Linux. Symbian? Nice, and open source, very good, as just normal phone OS. I hope Android will be good ofr GENERIC purpose, as I am using GNU/Linux (100%) for my daily use. Yeah, nothing is perfect. iPhone, android, symbian, ... has it's own weakness, but, the most important is, I am HAPPY!!! with my choice.

I don't care about multtouch at all. I still can make/receive call and sending sms. Web browsing? Even with touchscreen-less E52, I can use it's built in browser comfortably. Eh, even the tiny E52 brower support inline FLASH!!. and I can watch youtube via normal youtube site. If I got the N1, I'll compared it side by side with my friend's iPhone 3Gs smile.gif...Or, I might let them use mine, and ask their impressions smile.gif

Thank you.

Naah..dont worry, Maxis will not monopolize it smile.gif Even if they do, they have competitors and the unlocked phone is not that expensive..I like one statement made by Vervain when he said "It's pointless to have a powerful device when it's only utilizing less than half of it's capabilties." Actually, its like buying a Ferrari but using it for normal driving..No point right? Exactly..But what when one day, someone goes by you and shows off in front of you asking you to race..Foolish to race with a Ferrari, but if it happens, you will have all the power you need under the hood..That said, we can't predict what happens after Eclair..Maybe Android 3.0 will be out this year..who knows..at least if it does, our Nexus One will be all ready to adapt it..Otherwise, lags, etc would annoy your wouldn't it? Just like those times when people were buying XP computers which were ready for Vista..They were too fast for XP but when Vista was installed, it could support it..not as fast as XP, but usable..Thats the point of having "juice" under the hood..You never know when you need it smile.gif

bahathir, GNU/Unix just ROCKS! I too ditched Windows for good..But instead of Linux, I use MacOSX.. biggrin.gif Thing about MacOSX is, its like Linux with beauty..Like you too, I'm surrounded by Linux and MacOSX stuff daily..No windows strictly tongue.gif

Added on January 10, 2010, 8:21 pmEh..don't spread verdicts like that..There is no single word about Celcom planning to bring in Android yet..Google's planning is to keep Android unlocked rather than bound to carrier..However, they cant escape it..Thats for sure..hehe..I do expect Celcom or Digi to bring it in soon..Somewhere in this month or next, there might be news about Nexus One released by HTC..But thats about it..We just wait and see smile.gif
