"So you're paying $529 for an unlocked Nexus One which actually costs HTC about $174 in just parts, note that doesn't cover expenses such as manufacturing, software, packaging, included accessories, etc. This didn't come as a huge surprise being that in most cases companies get more than a 50% margin on the Smartphones they sell. And for a comparison, the Palm Pre carries a $138 material cost, while the 16GB iPhone 3GS costs about $179."

First of all, I am no iphone fanboy. I am attracted to Android like you guys do. Just that I do not understand why shahz is so overwhelmed by Nexus One. It is as overated as Iphone. Tell me what is so powerful for Nexus one compare to other phone?

As for multitouch, Droid Eris has multitouch why not Nexus One if it is the best phone for Android?

Look at the other thread in Android board where someone is asking about "Nexus One or Droid"..Read my responses and judge me if I'm biased..The thread you are currently posting in is dedicated for Nexus One..That is why it sounds bias towards it (expected huh)..

Also, Nexus One is indeed a craze for me..I am only overrating it here personally because I know already how will it perform..And I am getting one..Spent a lot of money on it..So I suppose I do have the right to spread the flowers with its name smile.gif

Multitouch hardware wise is integrated in Nexus One..Feature is there, just have to be "unlocked"..If you get what I mean..also, read my post above, there is already a mod for the browser's multi touch..

Biggest point Nexus One has over all other Android phones is that its sold by Google itself..Updates etc can be expected quicker than HTC..

Nexus One is tempting with that new Android 2.1 and large 16m 3.7 AMOLED+Snapdragon

But HD2's Sense UI remains the UI to beat and so far, none has come close

Just my opinion though

Yeah damn that 65k colours WinMo.If it were an AMOLED,then it would pawn any phone out there

WinMo was on the way down until HTC Sense UI came to save it drool.gif Anyway, Android is still very new and probably they'll be much better after a few years.

Tested the HD2 today at KLCC.Sungei Wand and Lowyat don't even have stock sweat.gif Really damn nice~!Sense UI worked flawlessly and when u hold the unit, u can feel the oooompmmmphhhh and the ahhhhhhh. It's just that great~!

exactly..those taiwan guys really did a great job..the touch just follows your fingers..
Well, I know Nexus One will be my phone for the next 3 years at least..I will keep following up with others who will be buying other Android phones though..Unless got some rich people "sedekah" android phones to us for testing..haha..This is really an expensive hobby..I've spent close to RM8k on Android already..While I have tried most almost all android phones so far, I havent got my hands on the Acer Liquid yet..The only Android I haven't tested..I found out that responsive wise, Acer Liquid is even better than Nexus One..Anyone got this baby? Maybe can share with us?

I dont know, but sense UI over winmo isnt as good as Sense UI over android. like in the Hero. Im using Sense UI over Android 2.1 ( HERO21-Community-1.8 ). and it is super fast and responsive. mind you this is on a relatively archaic hardware. i've been using it for 2 weeks now and i dont want to look back anymore.

but, i really like HD2's hardware and appearance, more than Nexus One itself. im just waiting for the day when those good devs on xda to port android to HD2 and i will most def. gonna get HD2 and shove android into its slender, curvaceous body.

but this Nexus One is really tickling my appetite right now. Need. Strength. To. Resist.

somehow what i think that phone are not build to compete within brands....it built to serve people....function wise, depends on personal usage....choose the one that suit us best, then it will be the best phone for u....that why there are thousands of phones in the market are up for us to pick it....

either iphone or nexus one / other android based phone, the most important is that the phone serve us well....for me, the most important is the promising performance and easy to use, not the very high tech but complicated phone.... design wise, would be the 2nd though after performance.....i had tried out my fren iphone but never gone through with android based phone, but had read through quite alot of reviews and video clips about android as android raised my attention few weeks ago......and recently the announcement of nexus one even raised more attention and im waiting for more reviews of it....and i might own it in the next month or 2, hoho thumbup.gif thumbup.gif rclxms.gif

Maniacguys, I found your response really amusing biggrin.gif First you declared that phones should not compete. In the later part, you were comparing them which happens to be the reason of competition. lol. Competition is necessary for improvement (was discussed earlier in this thread) and we, the consumers are the main reason for this. Our requirements increase as new products are launched and hence, the competition never ends. I am not sure if there will be another rival to Android, iPhone, and Symbian (lets not talk about Blackberry, Palm and Winmo at all), but ever since Google announced that it will be making an OS for the mobile phones (somethere in Jan 2009 if I'm not mistaken), I already sold my soul to Google tongue.gif I ditched Symbian for Android actually and I have to say, it was a smart move to me.

Btw Maniacguys, I'm also crazy about Ferraris tongue.gif Its the only craze that overcomes any other craze for me. tongue.gif Saw that in your sig..hehe

Some ppl support the bigdog and some ppl supports the underdogs. That's normal. Hehe. Same thing like intel/amd and nvidia/ati sometime ago.
Due to big advertisement from intel, it led some ppl out there not even knowing there's another brand out there called amd.
Many gamerz knew this and supported amd due to it's cheaper price, and high overclockability at that time tongue.gif (amd k6, cyrix & pentium days). ppl knew about amd's offering have potential at just a fraction of the cost! tongue.gif. Well this story does not apply anymore since intel is the king for now in terms of processors and amd has to play 'catch-up'.

i'm no fanboy but as a geek & gadget freak, i always support any product that has great potential. iphone was one of it but can't buy it due price (and our stupid telco's who dont really bring in cheap subsidized-phones). To me, iphone has good apps rather then good OS. That's why ppl use it. Iphone is great for ppl with intention of gaming-on-go and ease of use. Androids on the other hand have a great OS and is for ppl who wants more pda-like features as well as a slight adventurous guts to tweak their phones ...haha. right? ..LOL

whatever it is, it still boils down to user preferences and their likes. As for me, i always buy anything that is bang for buck instead of coolness factor, regardless of underdogs or bigdogs. if it's good (and cheap) i'll buy it.

back to nexus one/android topic ...i'm in bad need for a new phone ...lol ..my hacked winmo device with 6.5 is dying liao (gotta ditch winmo asap! haha) ... i wonder if it is worth the wait to see htc bravo/passion or even legend to come out first ...as the specs will be more or less the same as nexus one. I bet the sense UI inside these will be better compared to nexus one as they're from htc themselves. Any picks?

Shahz you did not answer me on my question on Droid Eris' multitouch. Droid Eris has multitouch why Nexus One has none? (to gstoh, Droid Eris is Android phone in US by HTC and Verizon). Personally I think Nexus One is too overated based on what you guys say. What make N1 so special? There is no real technology breakthrough like Iphone did that deserve such a overated support.
AMOLED? Samsung I7500 is the first Android AMOLED phone launched way back in April last year.
Snapdragon and More RAM? HD2 has Snapdragon. The performance of N1 with this spec only can archive the speed of Iphone 3GS with much lower clock. The performance of Android is spotty with Droid (which has the same spec as Iphone 3GS) because Android is built on Java. BTW using clockspeed to define a powerful phone is already last generation (remember Pentium 4?).
Android Market? It has been crippled compared to Iphone Appstore. Fewer apps, not internationally assessable.

To me, N1 is a good phone with a relatively cheaper price too but also a sign of Google showing its evil tail. Google is selling this phone as the Google phone for few reasons:
1. The Android manufacturer is reluctant to update their device and the Google phones are the way Google whip them to update their phone by challenging their products with always updated Android phone.
2. Google Checkout has been a failure due to Paypal. People are using Paypal more than Google Checkout and Google is using the name of Android to bring out Google Checkout. I personally used Paypal for a lot times but Google Checkout only this once.
3. Google phone is the phone to promote Google product like Google Map, Google Voice, Google Earth, Google Navigation and Google Goggles.
4. Make use of its fan base to heighten up their reputation

For those like Shahz who think Android is the triumph in the future, I doubt it will be based on several reasons:
1. Android is chasing the tail of Iphone OS with Iphone continuously making breakthrough, setting the standard and getting their patent.
2. Google has no real intention of making Android. (They do not put money to advertise and real breakthrough need lotsa money thats why Iphone is expensive)
3. Google core business is information based not computer product. Android is another platform for them to utilise their product.
4. If Android fails, they still have ChromeOS.
5. Most importantly, they have capture the wrong fans like Shahz who think Android is powerful because it can customize, mod and hack (and not iphone of course). Yes, Android at its failing point because of you guys. No one really wanna put money to promote and heighten the core competencies of Android because you guys view Android is another Google phone rather than a HTC phone or a Samsung phone or a Motorola phone. These handphone manufacturer still need to compete between each other even they has Android phone series. If they put in cash to invest (like advertising and develop unique apps locked to their phones), and you guys hacked it and put it in other Android phone, its lost of investment for them. It is the real scenario now. Later I will see Xperia x10 UI ported into a HTC Bravo or Motoblur from Motorola ported into this Nexus One. Because of that too they dont wanna invest in multitouch. If they wanna put multitouch in their phone is easy, they just need to pay royalty to Apple. Verizon paid the royalty thats why Droid Eris got it. But why other phone manufacturer dont wanna pay for that? Because paying for that does not buy them the competitive advantage as you guys can hack it into multitouch in any Android phone.

End. To make Android win in this situation, drop the hacking and modding part, it is spoiling Android ecosystem. Develop more apps for Android and urge Google to open Android Market internationally to compete with Appstore. Google must play a part to do a breakthrough. Phone manufacturer must be ready to invest.

Bro.. u have bring up some good point up there... but really whats is it the problem with google... i cant see why they cant get someone to manufacture a phone for them to promote their software.... its business and its normal...

as for comparison of IPHONE and ANDROID.... i think its good to have competition here since if not we cant see any improvement... so i suggest we the user stop bashing each other since we need each other to enjoy our device...

I am looking forward for Shaz review just for one thing, to see how this phone can fit me.. coz im not gonna try to fit to the phone... im heavy phone user with tonnes of emailing and texting to be done. my research shows that Hero can fit me but looking there is another option here than i wait lil bit longer to see what nexus1 can offer....

Multitouch.. mmmm nice function to have but how often do everyone use it.... i prefer the voice recognition than having a multitouch... i see that this phone have a good one.

Software...mmm is android market is the only option to get the software... cant we just download it from our pc and install it from there just like the winmo? if we can do this than i dont see much problem of not having android market hehe.... well this just me i think...

ahh one more thing can android act as modem.. i think its call tethering is it....

I am not bashing each other. I just wanna send you guys back to reality where N1 is not that good after all.
Beside 3G problem, i see another bad review. http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/01/09/...rsonal-thoughts
