Buy the ultimate one or the standard one?
*
i think, standard will fine maybe
because astro only transmit in 720p/1080i..
not in full hd..

I got my Byond already.... rclxms.gif

Very Friendly installer.., and he said that in my area, only 2 persons including me who are changing their decoder to byond... tongue.gif (I live in a bit "kampong" area la)

He changed all the things like dish, cable, and decoder...

I got only 3 channels in HD, it is Nat Geo HD, History HD and HBO HD since im just subscribing to Movies and learning package in SD...
The Quality was SUPERB!!! I set the output to HDMI 720p.... but for the SD channels.., the quality was just so..so.. la... especially TV3 and TV9.. a bit poor quality...

Decoder itself was so small... so cute.... and the dish looks very grey...

Astro remote no effect on volume. I calibrated the Byond remote to be used as my Pana plasma remote (see ur manual guide) using the code given. Working very well to control volume/ AV channel / on & off for TV. Great Byond remote.
*
How to calibrate it? I don't see any guide to calibrate my remote with my LCD in their user guide book...
I also use Panny... but not Plasma la..., just LCD...

QUOTE(ac93 @ Dec 22 2009, 03:47 PM)
My method is to:
1) use the analogue audio of the receiver, connect to yr tv set, choose a hmdi connection that accepts audio in yr tv set
2) disable hdmi audio that you connect from yr receiver in your tv setting
3) select the analogue audio in yr tv

You will lose HD Audio and will only have stereo, but you can control the volume with the astro controller ....
*
Unfortunately my panny LCD did not have option to disable audio via HDMI ... cry.gif

For me, I was satisfied with astro HD...
It is because, I don't have enough money to spend on Blu-ray player, and to buy PS3... Blu ray disc also seems a bit expensive (if i'm not mistaken, one blu ray disc could cost abt RM200-above)... Downloading from internet also maybe can cost me more... one HD Movies in torrent should be more than 1GB in term of their size... I need to open my PC for 24 hours... Electricity cost, internet cost also will be higher... I also only subscribing to streamyx 512kbps... How long should I wait for the movies to complete the download... maybe 2-3 days.... or probably 1 weeks sweat.gif

And for astro HD, I just pay RM20 every months, and will get HD Channels based on my astro package. I satisfied with HBO HD, Nat geo HD and History HD... these 3 channels I frequently watch even in SD...

owh which means that we can temporarily use the 4:3 format in tube tv via component cable ??
thanks for the info... icon_rolleyes.gif

yes... astro byond can be connected to CRT TV also...
but all the HD channel will become letterbox... the picture also was so..so only because you're not in HD mode...
I have tried yesterday with my old 29" inch CRT...
Connected using composite... not component since my CRT does not have component...

I really2 hoped that next year they will launch Astro On Demand HD.... rclxms.gif
since most of TVB drama was already in HD.... drool.gif
1 channel for on demand HD is just enough... since AOD now taking most of their transponder now...

U cannot use old astro card with the new decoder...
I have tried it, when I put byond smartcard into my old decoder, it only shows "Please insert the right smartcard for this decoder"... sad.gif
But byond dish can be used with old decoder...

QUOTE(kkm @ Dec 24 2009, 12:10 PM)
Just got mine installed this morning, just tested a short while then had to go to work!

First impressions - HD is HD, so it's much better when comparing with the SD channels. Disappointment - SD channels don't look any better on B.yond, I was hoping the HDMI connection might make things better... bummer!!  sad.gif

The interface is slicker and much more responsive, especially compared with my old Max interface. Changing channels, checking info and surfing is much improved now. Getting the remote to work with my Sammy was a breeze, and I haven't noticed any serious audio problems (yet).

Note of advice: the installers are in a great hurry, so grab a slot if they call you. I know 1 guy who wanted to postpone his 8.30am slot because he had to take his wife marketing (!!). He was given a new slot 3 days later!

Also, the installers only do exposed wire installation (unless you want to use the old cable - I changed mine), and will not do any removal of the old internal cabling. This is to save their time, and to avoid any hassle over damage to walls because of removing the cable. Apparently, Astro has instructed them to walk away and reschedule if any subscriber insists on them removing the old cable!
*
Do you return back your old Max decoder to the installer or you pay RM80 to him and keep it? nod.gif
