QUOTE(verx @ Jun 24 2010, 08:16 PM) As for Spain I think the Switzerland defeat is just what the team needed although it does make the upcoming Chile game a do or die one. But the initial pressure of being heads on favourites is gone; everyone is talking about Argentina and Brazil now and Spain seems to have gone under the radar somewhat with the 2-0 win over Honduras not impressing. They still have the right mix to go all the way imo. No one moves the ball from back to front as fluently and even against the big guns they should be able to dominate possession comfortably. Their defending is abit unorthodox but it seems to suit their style but they are abit more vulnerable to the counter attack as compared to Brazil. I think once the front line gets their sync back and Torres rediscovers his touch with this new ball I wouldn't want to bet against them no matter who they face. Spain were and still are my pick despite losing to the Swiss. What gets on my nerves is the knee-jerk reactions from some "football fans", suddenly claiming that Spain are overrated. Leaves me wondering if these folk actually watched the game or checked the internet for the result. Spain did everything but score in that game and if the game were played 10 times, Spain would have won 9 of them. Spain may not be impressive yet, but how many teams have actually impressed so far? On the topic of Italy vs. Slovakia, the play acting was sickening. Sure my adrenaline was pumping towards the end but to see atheletes in prime condition go down "injured" each time they get grazed is pathetic. Boo to Italy for a crap performance but double boo to both teams for feigning injury. |

Spain overrated? Nah. Far from it. Good teams suffer occasional blips and the Swiss game was one of Spain's.
Round of 16 for Hol v Svk and Par v Jap should be interesting, to see which of the 'smaller' teams go through. For groups G and H, now that'd be a cracker. Por to maybe face Spa, while Spa v Bra is still a possibility. Interesting stuff. |

On paper, quality all over, from top to bottom. Keyword being on paper though. It's just a question whether they'd be able to click as a unit and Del Bosque employing a tactic and formation that would suit his playing staff.Round of 16 for Hol v Svk and Par v Jap should be interesting, to see which of the 'smaller' teams go through. Then again I'm not a fan of any particular National team. Although that would screw me up badly in my office WC pool. Already screwed up quite badly thanks to France, Italy, Nigeria, Serbia and England and the US swapping positions. This post has been edited by air_mood: Jun 25 2010, 12:24 PM |

I would hope to see the Netherands playing like they did in Euro 2008. Swift passing on the counter and never stopped attacking. So far, I've not seen such games in the wc yet. Same goes to Spain. What happened after 2 years?!?!

ridiculously good? haha
I'd be very surprise if Spain does not make it far. Heck, I've my vote for Germany, but I'd think Spain v Brazil would be the perfect final as far as this WC goes. Holland? Looks ok on paper, but they have the tendency to implode during KO rounds. |

though there is some totally bogus call from the ref in this world cup, we have not yet seen one dive that is so blatantly outrages like the following and still get an penalty, though i suspect is may happen in the remaining game.

De Rossi is nothing compare to this guy. the worrying thing is with some of the "performance" of the ref in this world cup, we may have such blatant dive turn into penalty. Added on June 25, 2010, 11:59 pmit is a lie!! we are promise a showcase of football in the game between brazil and portugal but we get this stupid match with both set of player just keep on fouling each other This post has been edited by robertngo: Jun 25 2010, 11:59 PM |

Dont know bout u guys, but spain did well tonite, although chile tried to press them back with lots of possession n attack play, but still, a spain win.
They took their chances well (villa in particular), chile was not threatening in 2nd half with 1 man down, and was very lucky to get a deflected goal early on. Game on. |

it was always onli a blip against switzerland. even in that game spain played considerably well. these things happen in football.
spain are still definitely the strongest team in the tournament. i really hope they win this world cup coz i wanna see a new champ. but their route to the final will not be easy, portugal first, and a possible showdown with argentina in the semi. great games coming up! |
