hi gen, i m in a real dillemma! coz i oledi prepared for this weekend to buy my very 1st DSLR canon 500d but not sure wheter is fortunate or unfortunate canon annouce 550d couple of days ago with so much additional features. Shit Shit Shit! what shd i do now??? please help bro......

I suggest you wait and see. When the 550D is released the 500D's price will drop definitely. It's a matter of time. If you can wait then wait, if can't then go for it.

i wish the D5000 have built in auto focus  wink.gif , this is really a big drawback tht stop me immediately from considering this cam. no doubt the IQ is very impressive but my future choice of lens will be very limited even a basic prime lens cost me RM800+ or i hv a very deep pocket flex.gif

I still wondering y 550d so fast come out? the 500d not even a year! i checked the dpreview their anouncement date is March-09, o tot the 500d is selling like hot cake..

sidetrack abit....pentax Kx seems very impressive 2  doh.gif any comment?

Not much heard about Pentax K-x yet but as far as I know there is surely a catch to it being awesome.

i mentioned before ur question has been asked too many times in this thread. cheapest brand new ones now are canon 1000D and nikon d3000. not sure about other brands. if u're okay with 2nd hand, find canon 400D or nikon D40.

u should try reading past pages in this thread. a lot of people asked the same question (cheapest dslr), n we always have the same answer

for this type of question, better u go google and type d3000 vs 1000d vs a230

definitely will get better answer

same goes to those who ask 500d vs d5000(or maybe even d90 since price diff is not that big)

1000D has been in the market for a while now. Proves how well an entry-level camera it is that Canon doesn't need to update the lineup.

D3000 is the successor of D60. The D60 was a horrible fail (though some won't admit so, 3 AF points?!) and thus the D3000 has improved leaps and bounds over. Theoretically the D3000 is a tad better than the 1000D (11 AF being the biggest difference).

a230 is the most entry-level DSLR by Sony and thus a little backwards from these two. 2.5fps continuous shooting being the largest disadvantage. The other two shoot at 3fps.

In conclusion the D3000 would be your best bet.

-

Adding on, I'd really like to start a globalized recommendation topic as the recommendations are just going to be almost the same for entry-level and imtermediate ranges. Should I?

PS: in long run, a lil' more investment might juz be the luck i need =D

ur budget seems pretty strong have a sony a380. Though it might not be many features to play with compared to a500, u'll definitely gain by having a twin lens. Of course, i'm assuming that u're aiming for a380 twin lens package. But since u're into macro photography, none of the kit lens will give u a high quality close up shots unless u're willing to fork out a lil' more to get a teleconverter. If u just want some normal macro shots, standard kit lens might do just well. =D

Secondly, u want one which is user frendly. I suppose sony's new user interface might help u out by providing details on each modes. Trust me, even a person who have nvr been serious into photography could use sony's dslrs. Eg: me. =D

Third, if u're considering to have a HD video recording capabilities, Sony is definitely out. None of its lineup has it. Also, dslrs with video records may not be the kind of user frendly dslr to everyone. If u're willing to let go the 'user-frendly' attributes n willing to increase ur budget a lil' more, get a Canon 500D =D.

Me, personally, dropped of my thoughts on video recording n focuses more on 'user frendly' and that's why i got myself an a550.

my 2 cents =D
