Hi, i need a recommendation for a 'small' camera for travelling. something that can fit in a pocket. and since im a little out of date on the smaller camera's, just poping in here to speed up my research
i dont want recommendation for a DSLR when talking about picture quality since im as im getting a d300s soon'ish
i currently have a canon ixus 860is and i feel i need something better in terms of noise control since this little fella even at 80iso its still a little noisy for my liking

Type of camera/lens/accesories : compact/pro-consumer?
Budget : 2k ? none in mind yet. as long its not something silly like asking me to go for a 4/3 tongue.gif
Your Location : london
Preferable brand : none.
Type of photography u want to do : something with decent noise control and should cover a wide enough angle for landscape/casual use
Any specific features u want? : fits into pocket, manual controls (shutter+aperture if possible if not then long shutter speed) and wide enough angle for landscape/casual social pictures

Type of camera/lens/accesories: DSLR body only, lens/flash/BG later can be searched
Budget: RM2500
Your Location: Shah Alam
Preferable brand: Nikon
Type of photography u want to do: Portrait, landscape, macro, event, wedding
Any specific models in mind?: Second hand D80/D90 or D200
Any specific features u want?: Nope, but I prefer the one that can go even more further - if you know what I mean

With RM2500 budget, I sense that I can get used D80/D90 with accessories (kitlens or BG), but when I searched around, D200 also falls into this kind of budget.
By comparing these models, seems like D90 produces better image when taken with high ISO, but heck, I don't mind about the noise at all, and D200 offers much more feature than D80/D90. And I don't think I need the video recording feature as well. SLR is meant for capturing picture, not video.

But still, I need your opinion. Thanks in advance smile.gif

u're absolutely right, but for a newbie to visit other shops apart from main dealers, u should not expect them treat u like a experienced comsumer.
My point is, wad if they're selling u an imitation? Wad if they bring up the price juz for that particular person? =D

so, to play safe as a newbie, i always advice others to get it from the main dealer. Once one got the tune of it, they can try other shop for a better bargain =D

well, at least that's my method

here u go, this is the where u shuold start

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Sony_Cyb...1/verdict.shtml

might be quite tldr, but once u read it, u're good to go

Personal advice, if u want a dslr-like camera with video, this is a pretty good deal in terms of price.

For quality, it all depends on ur own req

err, with a budget of RM1k n first hand, make sure u don't expect much from picture qualities.
U can try sony W series, and see whether are u still into lumix/ olympus. Beware: certain sony's W doesn't perform really well!
For canon, u can try the IXUS 100 series...me personally, i don't like canon's design

EDITED: some canon powershot series as well. Beware: it's a budget series =D U will be able to see some with juz AA batteries =D

U should try it out at the respective centers n check out the specs...

well, since ur budget is 2.5k, u have lots of choices if u're heading on prosumer cameras...HX1, canon powershot pro series and nikon L110(not sure about the price). FOR CANON POWERSHOT PRO, TAKE NOTE THAT CERTAIN MODEL ONLY WORKS ON AA BATTERIES!

got dslr, u have Sony a330/380 single lens kit, canon 1000D n nikon D3000 and some other brands where it isn't advisable =D

in terms of picture quality, dslr definitely has the advantages but if u want it small, light...no such thing lol
prosumer cams are pretty awesome if ur demand isn't that high and it is lighter than dslrs yet cheaper...

for more details on the specs of those i mentioned...u gotto check it out n see which one suits u best.

EDITED: different models might offer u a slightly different specs
