okay...just want to ask something else.. got people here with 70-200VRii and tamron 70-200 right? what i wanna ask ask is how do u properly hold the lens for handheld shots? or is it too heavy for handheld shots and must use mono/tripod
if you do use it handheld, how to properly hold it? can i pegang my d90 and point the lens upwards, horizontal, vertical facing down? teach me..i just dont know how to go about with this kind of lens..

im looking at the sigma 70-200 HSM ii. please comment.

i hold my d200+mb-d200+tamron 70-200 handeld..no need monopod at all..but u need to get used to its weight la first.(tamron,1.2kg,d200+mb-d200,1.1kg.)this is for outdoor shoot.if indoor, need to add summore speedlight..btw,im also a small build guy..the right way to hold ur body when attach with 70-200 is by holding the 70-200 with ur left hand and ur right hand at the body..never hold the body alone..if not,ur mounting might break..

the widest is 13mm f5.6 prime..not 13.5. weight: 1.2 KG!!!!

yeah..nice.. it's a very very very expensive poison? the canon guy was using which canon 70-200? juz askin..there's about 4 versions right? f4 and f2.8 and with and without IS.

the owners just hang the dslr+70-200 on their necks like we do with d90 +18-105VR??? lens mount tahan or not? those guys are using semi pro (7D) and pro (D700) dslrs and im just using a d90, afraid will break lens mount on d90 body..

KIMURA..what's your take on this subject as you use a D90 +70-200VRii....need to follow your advice here.. got another guy here with a tammy 70200 also right? what's his take on this matter..? thanks guys..

the weight will be distributed thru ur camera strap and also the stress will be at the camera strap joint..as when the lens is attach to the body,it attach firmly as one..but make sure ur not using the original strap la..mati woo ur neck after hanging it more than 30 minute..use optech/mattin or crumpler strap..

dont worry about the mounting.i've also used the lens many times with my gf d90..just that u need to hold it the correct way lor.

thanks to zackskate666 & celciuz for the info...btw, the white lenses of canon and the canon 7D at first seems like a strong poison to jump...but when i went to DxO Mark and compared d300s VS d90 VS 7D, GUESS WHAT GUYS!!...D90 is the reigning champion in terms of sensor iso etc..only downside is that it's not made of magnesium alloy.

okay back to my question.. a 7D and D300, D200 has a magnesium alloy frame thus making it sturdier and more robust. so i would easily believe it can stand the weight of the 70200 easily.

d90 on the other hand doesnt have a magnesium alloy body so really need KIMURA to give some light here..

celciuz , your frenz, hang the camera with 70200 facing downwards no prob ar? meaning the lens mount can handle it la..can u post some pics if u have em...thanks u guys..got to go now..

thanksssss ...really good info here..

1. Yeah..so i cant never hold the body alone right? if not the mounting might break because of the weight..what if like celciuz said..can i hang it ponting downwards with the 70200???

2. Can i trust something like black rapid strap and hang it by the lens?

Sure, I'll PM you the pictures. Most of the time when we pass those camera around, we actually hold the lens instead of the body LOL. Cause the body is so tiny compared to the lens.

The important part that might break is the mount.. I doubt the body would play a part. Ever seen a 500D with 70-200 f/2.8 IS? LOL this one lagi funny.

I don't think the mounting of the lens is attached to the plastic shell of the D90. blink.gif Inside the D90 is a metal endoskeleton (ala Terminator T2). I'm sure the lens mounts is attached to this steel frame. The plastic shell is only the housing. Every critical component like sensor is bolted to the steel frame. So don't worry too much if you attach the 70-200. whistling.gif

Haishhh ... janganlah cakap macam tu smile.gif Saya dah dekat dua bulan pakai 70-200vr2 selamba aje pegang kat body hayun hayun sesedap rasa. Tak adalah nak pecah pun mounting dia. Tapi secara semulajadinya orang takkan larat nak pegang body aje sepanjang masa sebab lens tu berat. Tapi kalau setakat pegang jinjing ke bawah tu memang saya pegang body je.
Saya pernah tanya pasal hal ni di Nikon kat sini (Atlanta) .. mereka tersengih sumbing sambil kata "Maam .. its a Nikon."

What I mean is D90 should be able to handle the 70-200 due to the metal mount smile.gif. Sorry if I've caused a misunderstanding here. I myself now simpan duit to buy one of these VR2 tongue.gif. Most likely after my trip hehehe.

For me , hold the lens and body will feel safer

D90 & D700. Hala ke bawah ok aje. Nak hala ke depan pun tak larat setakat pegang body aje. Tapi kalau larat nak hala ke depan dengan pegang body aje pun, mount tu masih lagi kukuh.

oohh..okeh2...trima kasihhh..

thanks guys..

thinking of getting the either an ultrawide Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 or Tokina 11-16 2.8.....OR a tele sigma 70-200HSM II or tamron 70200 ..what do u guys think?

im doing weddings and i notice sometimes i need really wide angle lenses for small and cramped rooms... but then again i also need a fast tele like the 70200 for close ups and candid shots...i weigh them out by priority and i think it's 50-50..so now im in the middle.advice?

if wide i would go for the sigma as it is the widest and can zoom to 20mm..

for 70200...the tamron is slower because of the slow motor but better IQ then again sigma is much faster in lowlight but lower IQ...a fast lens is better i suppose in low light/indoors..
