So i patched my wall using stopping compound as cement is a bit hard to work with, actually both also hard to work with, stopping compound in my bucket dries and hardened before i complete.
Now that i patched, put on a layer of undercoat paint, only to noticed there is hollow sound when knock on patch area, is this normal? It happends to the bigger patch area the hollownsound is like a very hard layer not sticking, the smallet one near the window doesn't have a less audible hollow sound.
Is this normal for a patched wall, or i need redo the patching? Before i eventually paint it

probably due to the material density is different compared to cement. so the sound also will sound diff. not as solid.

I think so, because the hollow area is near joint of plastered patch and good area, likely i was trying to smooth out that area didnt put much force and density there. I think I'll wait a week more to see if the hollow worsen or spread to other partt, else just paint coat it. Too much hassle and dust to redo especially sanding part..... Fell sick for 2 days after sanding despite wore mask and goggles

I had another room's wall have some condensation issue causing paint to shrink and flake. After investigating the area, its where the internal aircond drain pipe is, suspect the developers never insulate or didnt insulate the pipes properly.
I'm not intending to break the walls and insulate the pipes properly, as the moisture or "sweat" from the pipes wouldnt be that massive. I'm looking to scrap the current paint, undercoat the walls with some sort of waterproof paint before repainting it.
What sort of undercoat waterproof paint is recommended and that comes in 1 liter pack, cause it's a very small area ?

Thank you.

Actually, I have done the momento painting by myself.
It was not difficult and the outcome was good too.

The only problem is hand & palm muscle fatigue afterwards... :-)

Hi,

I am planning to paint the wall as per photo attached myself.

My understanding to properly paint the wall, I need to:

- clean the wall with high pressure water jet. I believe this can be replaced with mopping with cloth + warm water;

- apply a layer of primer/ sealer;

- apply two layer of paints. Wait for the first layer dry and only apply the second layer.

Anything in details which I need to pay attention to?

Possible can skip any steps as I don't wish to spend so much money buying the paints and the primer. It looks more works that I original thought.

Cloth and warm water cannot give it a good clean. Garden cement wall plastering is not 100% smooth.

Primer sealer not necessary for garden wall fencing. Two coat of weather shield paint will last few years and ...

Use a garden hose to clean the wall occaionally to removed dirt.

Avoid having plants and trees next to garden wall. Dripping water from leaves after rain will leave dirt and water stain on wall.

I paint my garden wall every 3 to 4 years. About a week to complete including the metal fencing.

Better to apply primer/sealer but make sure its OK for outdoor wall, IIRC Nippon got two type (IIRC 5100 and 5400) so whatever brand you buy make sure the sealer is outdoor rated. Because the wall bricks will absorb water so it is better to use sealer to avoid the paint bubbling if the inside of the wall is too wet.

I have a bedroom wall next to bathroom which i suspect has a slow leak in there (not pipe leak but more like sink dripping) where the paint-only without sealer is bubbling rclxub.gif

Actually both also almost the same. For exterior paint certain colour I would recommend Jotun, for interior I would say Nippon is great. This is based on my own experience only.

Just finished painting one of the wall. ( pic before and after)

The upper part of the wall was less than perfect...hmmm

I have wash the wall with warm water with a bit of dishwasher liquid and later spray the wall with water garden hose. Later, I applied one layer of sealer and two layer of white paint on the wall. Look like it was not good enough...

Look like i may need the stronger water spraying tool such as high pressure water jet which used by some of the contractor to clean the wall.

Is only a small section of wall. Use the left over paint to coat it few times rather than storing it for later use.

Garden wall tend to get dirty quick esp if is white.
