kc3832,

Maybe you can try ifunbox. No jb needed. I used this before to copy some files from my iphone 3G to my 3GS. But I have yet to update my papago maps to the latest mfs as the map is quite ok for me for klang valley area.

The link to ifunbox:

I have try before trying to update the maps on a non-jb iphone 3gs by using
i) ifunbox, iphone explorer etc ... does not work as on a non-jb iphone, cannot access to the install papago directory to replace old maps with new maps. For non-jb iphone, you are only limit to certain user directory of your iphone.

ii) modifing the installation ipa, ie., replacing the old maps in the ipa with new ones from MFM. However, itunes will detect that the ipa is tampered with and the installation will not be successful.

Hope this help.

Thanks for the feedback bro, i am not going to JB my phone for now.. will wait for the next map updated via itunes

Took the papago pro for a spin and the navigation was ok but certain parts the processing was a bit slow but overall, it is more than i can ask for seeing that other GPS apps offer very outdated maps

Question: Have you used Papago?

How come a navigation apps will be good without a detailed map database? yawn.gif

Yup, Tomtom has a better interface and it is easier to use compared to Papago.

In the world of software and programing, sometimes interface and user friendliness can be factors to increase users/customers. Eg. iPhone Interface
In addition, it is useless for a software to provide many functionality such as detailed maps if it does not provide a good Software Usability.

As the tom tom vs papago dedate goes on, i was standing outside my home after dinner and switched on gps and papago and tried to lock onto my location as my map was showing a different location.

I actually stood outside for 20 minutes under a clear blue sky and i never got a satellite lock. Amazing. I think if i stood outside for another ten minutes i might not still get a lock and my battery would be running out of juice.

Is the Iphone integrated GPS really this poor?

Bro,
Papago uses Malfreemaps... So, is a must to buy.. Why? Tomtom/Sygic and others.. their app is good.. but they don't have a complete malaysia map.. and they only cover 40% map of malaysia.. And most of it is outdated.. If you heard about malsingmaps or malfreemaps.. They r so far the MOST update/complete map cover for Malaysia & Singapore..

Share with you my experience of Papago for my CNY trip
1.) PG-KL-Afamosa Resort- Tamping-Melaka town

Man.. i relay on it for all the POI & address to visit friends/relative.. I i am so confidence driving in KL City.. Even to Afamosa resort.. From Afamosa resort.. I use it to search for KFC restaurant nearby.. As, u know la.. Afamosa resort's food is very very expensive.. To my suprise, it leads me to KFC at Tampin town.. It is about 4.5KM away.. Man, i never know this place & you see i can go directly to the Tamping KFC...

Spend a nite in Afamosa resort.. Then, navigate to Kota Afamosa.. And it leads me to there..

I love the the Junction view, even the POI along the road such as Petrol station is very accurate on the map... with Papago malfreemaps, i can now say our iphone is now a true navigation device. No need to buy the GPS device anymore..

And 1 last thing is.. You can update the latest map release from malfreemaps directly without going throught itune... No JB is needed too..

Bro,
No doubt that tomtom and Sygic have better GUI..But, themost important fact is the map.Tomtom/Sygic is uses Tele Athlas map,and Tele Athlas map only cover 40% map of Malaysia only..ONLY malsingmap or malfeemaps have the complete coverage of Malaysia/Singapore.Why? Because these forum is local and contribute widely by Malaysian. They compile up all these piece and parcel..That is why u see Garmin uses malsingmap andpapago uses malfeemaps.. What is the point of having a F1 class's GUI but having a lousy map...Think about it..
