Papago is the best GPS app for iPhone now, simply becoz it supports MFM. Tomtom is ok but map is outdated. Didn't try the rest but i'd say it's safe to go for papago biggrin.gif

I like the junction view, very useful.

I just bought the PRO version... menu a bit confusing (first time GPS user). Anyone know where I can download the user manual? Checked the Maction websites... cannot find it.

Just bought Papago Pro My/Sg a few days ago. Having used Sygic before, here's my 2cents :

1. Default map is Malfreemap dated 26/06/2009. I saw few junctions at my home are missing, so I updated the map to Malfreemap dated 30/12/2009.

2. Routing is excellent, as u can expect from a comprehensive map.

3. App is stable (so far). No crash when re-routing. Re-routing is slower than Sygic.

4. Junction view is excellent and beautiful.

5. POI search is fast, and it's a lot better than Sygic. Just key-in the POI name. Auto-complete is a welcomed feature.

6. Functionality-wise, Sygic is clear winner. Papago feels like Google Map + POI. Very basic. What I want to see in the next release would be :

a. Navigate to coordinate (key-in latitude and longitude)
b. Route summary map, which shows the overall route, distance, and estimated time
c. If GPS is offline, user can select any point on the map as starting point. This is useful for route planning

I believe a) and b) is available in Papago stand-alone GPS, I hope they will bring more features from their stand-alone GPS to Iphone app.

I installed Papago yesterday it's look great! First time GPS user and amazed....quality is good as the one i used the GPS in USA previously....

But bad things happen today - when i start the application, after a while, the application will jump out back to iphone GUI!! mad.gif So, i reinstalled it from my itune and so far looks OK.....

but question on papago: why the Papago POI seach input character is only limited to 23 alphanumeric characters ah? Is all GPS software POI seach is like that? Anyone can advise? hmm.gif

hmm.gif
Another question i have is our iphone 3gs is A-GPS right?or GPS? If A-GPS, does it means it will use maxis 3G data to access the telco tower to detect our location?

if u r using iphone's native maps app to navigate, then yes, data charges apply..
but if u r using these new gps apps like papago/sygic/tomtom etc, then u r nt using data
u can turn on airplane mode n on location services manually n use da gps app

Yes, a, b and c are definitely a MUST for the next upgrade. Also a (d)...

d. Save preferred/actual route into favourites.

Let's hope Maction will put these in for the next map release... and hope it is soon... cos the current map is dated 26 June 2009.

Can someone please feedback to them directly? How to do that?

just my views of papago (do note i'm a new GPS user ya... )

pro
1. like the junction view, helps a lot, definitely worth the money
2. most updated map for iphone so far
3. voice command that can tell you 'turn left at the third junction', etc

cons
1. feel like 'delay' for a few seconds, the phone show my location about 3 sec later...
2. can't link to contacts like google map do, ie save the location and tie to a contact in the phone
3. sometimes ask me to U-turn at junction that cannot u-turn - physically cannot...
4. junction at certain new highway quite confusing, believe is because map not updated (although these highway are build prior to jun 09) - hope the updated version will fix this

overall, quite happy with it.

hope it helps

why not leave a review at iTunes?

or if you don't mind I can just copy and paste your comment on the product review.

it wud be a really good idea to leave reviews on app store..especially for this app as it is a niche product for SG n MY only...
so those who r nt familiar with this forum wud also get a chance to read the review n who knows if Maction wud actually implement those suggestions..smile.gif

I'm yet to buy M6 but already have X5. means UI probably different but supposedly that function already on.

Anyway, you can't expect all junction to have JV. all of this are done locally by our mappers at MfM. obviously you can expect more JV in KL compared to other places

You can't expect a gps phone to be as sharp and accurate as PND. this is a software modified to suit the phone. delay 3 sec still considered normal for a phone

As i said earlier, Papago is slower than Sygic when re-routing. It might be best to slow down your vehicle when it's re-routing.

I'm actually using Ipod Touch 1G + IGPS360 module + GPSSerial software. I believe my combo has better GPS response and accuracy than Iphone 3G/3GS built-in GPS. So I never have lag/delay in my current position.

No, u don't need data plan at all for this app. Data plan is also not needed for GPS. That's why I can use Papgo & Sygic on my Ipod Touch.

BTW, I've submitted my mini review on Papago at Itunes.
