I not sure but even current the clothes are mostly for winter which is not suitable for Malaysia or Singapore. My advice is don't put high hopes on clothes, only plan buy clothes if u're going on Jun or July since the period is mega sales.

Food recommendation at near ghost neck bridge where they hit 'siu yan', there's a shopcook crab very famous and nice
*
No offense

Just to ask, have you done any shopping during Nov-Jan in HK before?

As i have only done shopping during Jun-Aug sales in HK and I have been wondering,
How do you define 'clothes are mostly for winter which is not suitable for Malaysia or Singapore'?
coz I am thinking what is the different for summer time vs winter time t-shirts, slacks, jeans, and working shirts ? As what i know of, there is another mega sales around Christmas time as well.

Or anyone can share their shopping experience ?

Relax, no anger involved. I currently still in hong long. Here for a trip for 10 days. Been most of shopping centre and I can tell u clothes no sales. The only sales I saw is sasa. Clothes are mostly vr thick which is for winter although just autumn. U can try see urself if suitable. Not as thick as clothes in winter but it's definitely not suitable. Went mongkok then saw so called cheap clothes, 70% discount, after convert around rm40 to rm50 after sales. But upon see the material and fashion, u can find them in sg.Wang for around rm20. What worth it?

If u're into espirit then go to espirit outlet and buy stuff with total of hkd 500 then u can get discount of 10%. Approximately is hkd 80 per polo t which is veryyyyy cheap. Anyway pardon my spelling or grammar cuz I currently typing this using iPhone. Some bug and I can't read what I key in at all

biggrin.gif thanks.. i guess this help others who want to go HK shopping at year end a lot

RM2k? It is possible if you manage to get your tickets around Rm600 and stay in HOSTEL or Backpack home and with minimal shopping

you should start with your flights tickets! get the cheapest that you can

Hey guys, Im going to HK next week and I will be staying in Mong Kok. If i am not mistaken, there is alot of food around there which is nice. I really want to try out hawker stalls n etc

Problem is that i am with a 45 year old aunt n a 4 year old kid. Which means walking would be a problem. From the google map, those restaurant recommended in "all about hong kong" website (thanks so much for it!!!) shows that it is on the next street or at the end of the street. So... I can see the roads are wide. How do i get around without costing me a bomb and not losing my temper at the kid?
Do advice, if i recall correctly the taxi's are damn expensive right?

Thank you!!!!! happy.gif

Hey HK Travelers!

Could you take a look at the below plan and please comment. Me and my bf are really food hunters and we like hawker stalls and walk around markets to grab good food. Please let me know if there's any nearby places along i could chip in.

Day 3
The peak (3pm onwards)
Peak tower, peak market - watch sunset
Madame tussades
Dinner
Night market shopping - Ladies market

Day 4
Ocean park (after breakfast)
Shopping mall - nearby.

*
Citygates is located near to airport, quite far from Ocean Park and Ocean park is a really interesting place. I were there from 10.30a.m to 5 p.m just to cover all the shows and walk around, we didn't enough have enough time to go for any rides.

My suggestion:
Day 3
Ngong Ping 360
Big Buddha
Citygates if you insisted to go
The peak (4.30pm onwards)
Peak tower, peak market - watch sunset
Madame tussades
Dinner
Night market shopping - Ladies market

Day 4
Ocean park (after breakfast)
Avenue of stars

Hi can anyone give some review of the following places,

a) Avenue of stars (worth going? how many hours?)
b) Golden Bauhenia Sq. (which time is best to go and how many hours spend?)
c) Templer Street / Lady Street (which is a better night market (how many hours to walk around?)

Thank You Ya.....
*
a) Avenue of stars (worth going? how many hours?)
Yes. If would be nice if you reach there around 6.30p.m and stayed until 8.30p.m as you can stroll along the Victoria Harbor and get yourself a good spot to sit down and watch the Symphony of Lights which start at 8p.m

b) Golden Bauhenia Sq. (which time is best to go and how many hours spend?)
If you can wake up early and reach there by 8a.m, then you can see the parade which is going on at 8a.m. Best way to reach there if you are staying in Kowloon island is via Star Ferry (from TST to Wan Chai).

c) Templer Street / Lady Street (which is a better night market (how many hours to walk around?)
Lady street is just like our Petaling Street where Templer street is a good place for hunt for supper/dinner

Hong Kong diagnoses first bird flu case in seven years

A woman in Hong Kong is seriously ill in hospital with bird flu - the first human case of the disease to be diagnosed in the territory since 2003.

Officials said the 59-year-old fell ill shortly after returning from a visit to the Chinese mainland.

It is not yet clear whether she contracted the potentially fatal disease there or in Hong Kong.

The territory has raised its alert level to "serious", meaning there is a risk of contracting the disease.

The last outbreak of the H5N1 bird flu virus in Hong Kong killed six people in 2003.

Health chief York Chow said there was no sign yet that the virus has been spread between humans and that investigations were focusing on poultry as being the source of the infection.

"But we will be concentrating on people who were in contact with her when she showed symptoms and also when she was in Hong Kong," the AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

"The chances of her catching it is most likely on the mainland, but you cannot rule out Hong Kong," he said.

The woman is reported to have travelled to the mainland with her husband and daughter, and to have visited Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing.

Mr Chow said officials would meet on Thursday to decide what further precautions are needed.

The first time the virus crossed the species barrier between poultry and humans in 1997, every chicken in Hong Kong was culled.

The World Health Organization says more than 500 cases of bird flu have been diagnosed worldwide since 2003. Of those, 302 cases were fatal.

Anyone tried the Airport Express Travel Card? 3 consecutive days of unlimited travel means 72 hours from the moment of purchase?

Added on November 23, 2010, 10:34 amIs there a crossover at Tsing Yi MTR Station from the Tung Chung Line to the Airport Express Line?

Added on November 23, 2010, 4:06 pmWhat is the best way to get to The Peak & Madame Tussards?
*
it takes around 15mins from Tsing Yi MTR Station to Tung Chung Line Via MRT . Vice versa.

The best is, by Tram to get up to the Peak and by bus from the Peak to Central.

we took the tram to the peak.

Just to remind on: The octopus card is different from the Airport Express Travel Card.

Hi, I'm back from my Macau & Hk trip. It's really successful and satisfied with my planning.
Thanks to all the members who contribute the info in this forum. Only the last day didn't make it to Shatin coz stay around for bit shopping as I'm not  aware the Ladies street close so early.

We don't have to follow tours coz their mtr really convenience it's like just stop at the door step of our destination. Still some of the place need a bit walk and important just open our mouth n look around the signboard.

Really like their foods and snacks, even my hubby bought some instant and bowl mee back and the taste really different from us, worth carry.

My whole family really enjoy the trip.

Good luck to future travellers and for those going to Macau don't miss the Dragon Treasure show in City of Dream it's free entrance and fantastic.

Thanks also to Moody5 and Northasian for your advice and guidance. The wife cake suggested by Northasian in her blog taste good and for my own opinion it's better than kee wah.

p/s. Northasian, the Hang Heung wife cace bakery shop already shifted from your given address but it's very near to old add.  thumbup.gif

Glad that you enjoyed your trip!
I bet u must be thinking to go HK again soon!
