It's good that Public bank let us change the purchase limit. Just like Maybank.
There is one notable difference though. Maybank is offering both VISA debit card and debit Mastercard. The maximum purchase limit for VISA is only RM5,000/day while debit Mastercard is RM10,000/day.

Public Bank on the other hand, offers a maximum purchase limit of RM10,000/day for all their D2D VISA.

But I don't think you can do that with PB Basic Saving account rite?

Because they are locking in RM 20 from my account. (e.g. if i have RM 100 in my account, i can only withdraw up to RM 80)
No worries for PBB Basic Savings or Basic Current Account. You will be able to close it without incurring any charges at all provided you only close it 3 months after you opened it.

I also have have a BoA debit visa card, if I use the card to withdraw $ from the ATM in malaysia, I will be limited to RM 1,500 withdrawal each time rite?

Depends on which bank. Our ATM cards here in can withdraw a maximum of RM5,000 per day and RM6,000 for Standard Chartered (except Hong Leong Bank and several other banks). So your Bank of America VISA debit card will also be able to withdraw RM5,000 per day (the equivalent in US$).

For your information, Hong Leong Bank ATM can dispense RM3,000 only per card per day. Certain banks allow their affluent clients to withdraw up to RM10,000 per day but that is not applicable to your Bank of America check card.

QUOTE(ketnave @ Nov 21 2009, 09:51 PM)
Anyway to withdraw higher larger amount of $, since I am being charged USD 5 per withdrawal  + 1% conversion fees or something like that ((if I am not mistaken)
Let say you need a lot of cash but you want to save on the overseas admin fee imposed by Bank of America, you should look for ATM that dispense RM100 notes as ATM that dispense RM100 notes is able to dispense RM3,000 in just one withdrawal. You will be able to find ATM that dispense RM100 with Maybank, CIMB Bank, Public Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered etc.

No. Anyone under 18-year-old is not eligible for RHB Cash Connect debit Mastercard. Your other alternatives are :
- Maybank Cherry VISA debit card
- Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card
- EON Bank debit Mastercard

public day2day is direct from your saving account? so if its like that. if my card lost and people manage to sign then my money gone?? correct me if i am wrong. thanks.
All the cards mentioned earlier including RHB Bank Cash Connect debit Mastercard are all connected to your savings account. If you do not want to have a debit card that is linked to your savings account, then you should consider Public Bank VISA Electron, Public Bank ING debit Mastercard, Public Bank UTAR debit Mastercard or Public Bank TARC debit Mastercard. However, it will take a few weeks until you get your physical card at your preferred branch or by mail.

Should you choose to get a debit card that is linked to your savings or current account, you will be issued the card right away. If you are worried about your money being stolen then you might want to consider maintaining two different accounts from the same bank. currently when i click under M2U > Utilities > Maybankard Secure Online Shopping Registration, the following came out:
"You are not Visa Debit Card User."
Of course I'm not, I'm having a MasterCard Debit sweat.gif

Opps. Sorry. I thought i read it on the press release that it can be used online too but looks like it can't. My bad for giving you a misleading answer.

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Nov 23 2009, 09:15 PM)
Miles, can you see your debit card just like the credit card in M2U?
I closed my Maybank Kawanku Savings Account more than a month ago. I was already using the Maybank Cherry VISA debit card then. As far as i remember, there is an option there to view the transactions of your debit card, provided you have bought something using your VISA debit card/debit Mastercard. You'll see the option when you click the account your debit card is linked to.

Don't mean to scare you all but just be careful. This happened in Australia involving Commonwealth Bank debit Mastercard.

QUOTE
Bank Card Skimming Victim Depleted At Pump

As the busiest shopping week of the season is set to begin, a Westmoreland County mother who fell victim to theft has a warning for others who may fall victim without even knowing it.

Tammy Tressler stopped at a gas station in a hurry on Thursday. She had her baby in the car and had to get home. She swiped her debit card in the gas tank machine and went about her way.

She hadn't thought about the purchase until a fraud department representative from her bank called Saturday, detailing every purchase made.
"She had a whole huge list. I started writing them down and I got down to, like, 25, and I stopped because there was so many of them," Tressler said. "I started shaking and thought, 'What's going on here?' Then, I went online to our bank account and I said, 'There's nothing in here!'"

The purchases totaled $663.57.

"She said, 'There are a lot more charges that didn't show up yet that were out there pending,'" Tressler said.

Tressler had used her First Commonwealth Bank card and put $16.01 worth of gas in her car. At the time, she didn't think twice. After the bank called, she said she remembered something about the card reader.

"I just noticed it was kind of tighter to push it through," Tressler said.

Tressler had fallen victim to credit card skimming, a practice in which thieves use technology to steal information.

In some cases, skimmer have been placed atop ATM readers. A Red Box movie dispenser machine targeted by thieves had a magnetic skimmer next to the card reader, which itself was not tampered.

"I was shocked because we live paycheck to paycheck, you know? With three kids, that was their Christmas money, that was our mortgage money," Tressler said. "It's all gone. There's nothing left in the account."

Tressler said she will work with police and her bank on Monday -- and be much more careful with her card.

"I've heard that on the news like a year ago but never thought it would happen," Tressler said.

Experts recommend that consumers always check out the pump machine. If there's anything extra that looks a little odd -- any magnetic strips or any extra items above -- try going to a different pump. Also, always try and swipe bank cards as credit, not debit. Also, you can swipe your card inside the convenience store as an extra precaution.

so i'll find out the rest tomolo

Oh, so you do have more than one Maybank accounts eh ? Supposedly all your accounts will be linked to your ATM/debit Mastercard unless one of your accounts is not a Premier account as non-Premier account can't be linked to the Maybank Cherry debit Mastercard.

our card is all chip based, so dunno applicable or not
All the banks in Australia have also migrated to chip based cards. So yes, even chip based cards can be pretty vulnerable.

Hi all, since debit card can be used at place that accept credit cards, it "works" like credit card too.
But I wonder if we can use this concept and pay monthly insurance premium via debit card? I know some mentioned its impossible. But I think its possible as long as we maintain balance in our account? correct me if im wrong...
No. This is not possible as the banks in Malaysia do not provide auto debit service using debit card. You can however, instruct your bank to debit RMxxx/month directly from your bank account. Nominal charges apply.

If I wanna get myself a Public Bank Debit card, what should I do? Just open an account in that bank?
For Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card, yes. You just need to open a PLUS Savings Account with Public Bank.

How can I tell whether the ATM can dispense 3,000 or not?
Look for ATM that provides RM100 bills.

QUOTE(ketnave @ Nov 30 2009, 12:37 PM)
you mean there is some sorta sticker on the ATM machine, like RM 100 notes only?
The safest bet is to go to foreign banks ATM such as HSBC and Standard Chartered. All their ATM are labelled with the bills provided.

Another choice would be CIMB Bank ATM. As far as i am concerned, all their ATM are labelled too (those inside their branch).

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Nov 30 2009, 12:57 PM)
but i think not all banks label their machines

and one more thing, I think you can always try to key in RM3000 as the amount and the ATM should prompt you whether that amount is acceptable or not. I remembered I once keyed in RM2000 and the MBB ATM prompted something like "Max withdrawal amount is RM1500"
He is afraid that should he decides to cancel the withdrawal because the maximum amount can be dispensed is only RM1500, he will still be charged $5 by Bank of America.

anyone face problem on using public bank debit card at the public bank ATM? For example like the ATM eject the card and stated invalid card after u insert it into ATM
Is it ATM or CDT (Cash Deposit Terminal) ?

Some Public Bank CDT are not set to read your ATM/debit chip card, so it won't be able to read the information stored in your ATM/debit card. The CDT will displays a message saying that your card is invalid.

But if this happens at an ATM, most likely there is something wrong with your ATM/debit card and you will need to get a replacement card.

The CDT displayed your card as invalid because that particular CDT are not set to read ATM card. Actually all CDT can be configured to read ATM card, just that the bank staff did not activate the feature.

RHB Bank is introducing new Debit VISA Card which come with 2% cash rebate until 31st March 2010. See the advertisement is the star today but still not visible in their website.
Anyone has more informations regarding this newly launched RHB Bank VISA debit card ? The design of the card is identical to the exising RHB Bank Cash-Connect debit Mastercard, albeit with a different color and card shape.

The 2% cash back is only temporary. Anyone knows what is the normal cash back rate ? How much is the annual fee ? Does pumping fuel entitle for cash back too after the promotional period etc. ?

Any idea anout their annual fees?
Could be RM15/pa, just like their current Cash Connect debit Mastercard and My Cash-i debit Mastercard. Apparently all purchases including petrol will earn you 2% cash back until 31 March 2010. However we couldn't find any information how much is the cash back after the promotional period.

Miles. Is it safe to deposit all my money in the bank acc which is linked to my debit card? And what am I suppose to do if I wanna get a ATM from public bank. Currently I already have the pbb day2day
It is alright actually. Many banks in other countries also now only issue debit card to their account holders. You just need to be extra careful. If you happen to do many online transactions with your PBB D2D VISA debit card, i suggest you open another account with Public Bank (Basic Savings Account or Wadiah Basic Savings Account-i). Only transfer the money to your PLUS Savings Account when you need the money. This is what i am doing at the moment.
