But, indirectly, u already asnwer your own question above.
Anyway, I noticed something... in biking... u cannot lazy. Mind and physical must be fit.
Mind fit, body not fit = cannot ride
Body fit, mind not fit = accident
Body not fit, mind not fit = disaster
not sure how technical is the DH trail that you referring....But, indirectly, u already asnwer your own question above.

but basically for DH, there are few notes that need to be taken
1. lower the seat post if its really technical
2. don't sit on the saddle if its a technical downhill, stand up
3. layback - move your ass backwards, so that you weight is on the rear of the bike, and you will have better handling
4. layback + squad - in order to achieve this, u will need to lower your seatpost to the max if possible, or the saddle nose should NOT be higher that your stem, the layback and squad down, imagine the position that your ass is close to the rear tyre, i apply this on the very steep and technical dh
5. use rear brake more than front, front brake is for tapping purpose only, like touch and go
6. even u know u lost control and want to touch down, tap on the rear brake and let the bike slash away and let bike go, so u will sit on the ground
7. if your crank is 3 pcs chain ring, switch to the large ring, this is to avoid your leg poke into the large chain ring teeth if any accident happen, if your crank have bash guard, then you are can ignore
8. if no confident, push...... sometime slow speed will crash as well, as during steep dh without the speed you will fall
hope this will help
