3. New/Used/Unreg : used
4. Specs :
5. Transmission : auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : any
8. Remarks : need a car bigger than kancil, used, second car for daily commute to work (40km each way). Reliable. less maintenance cost & low FC

i'm thinking of kelisa, but is there anything else out there? wink.gif

Do u mind going for a used japanese saloon like the civic, corolla or sentra? U can fetch those cars which were 10 yrs older, but getting loan for such cars might be tricky. Spend some money for wear n tear parts n u will get a reliable car

I wanted to recommend a used waja but finding a used unit that is reliable could need some efforts as most used waja will have quality defects. The used kelisa is a safer option though.

Why not settle for a used city or vios? U may get a 2004-2005 model around 50k, which should be possible with ur 700 per month allocation.

hi there victor.
wanna ask ur opinion, if i get a 2nd hand kelisa year 2005, 1.0, manual, 25k is it expansive?
25k can get bank loan not u think?
will the interest rate more den 5%?
*
Hi,

The price is just reasonable. But if opt for older year spec will save more few k for you.

Bank loan is depends on your document and your car value. So i can't answer this question.

Interest rate can be much more lower if u purchased from a used car dealer.. (Depends on the bank they're working with)

Yes, the 2007 is equipped with the paddle-shift look alike in the steering.

The newer version tends to have less problem.

Mean there's a + and - behind the steering wheel, works like a paddle shift. laugh.gif

Mostly people don't really play much with the shift, the old City tends to have transmission problem

Not sure about it has the paddle shifter on the 7th Gen Honda Civic or not, but i assume it has only the 4AT.

City is a good car, but it's not meant to be raped hard, especially the fragile transmission.

If u plan to rape this car hard, or planning to play with the shifter, i suggest u to get a car with a better transmission.

Hello hello, first post and what luck to find this topic!!!!!

1. Brand:Ford Focus (hatch)/Mondeo or Mazda 3 (sedan)/6...... or the Ford Focus RS!!!!!!!!!!! tongue.gif

2. Budget: 100000 - 140000

3. New or used: new but open to used units if maintained in good condition.

4. Features: Good at cornering and good acceleration(especially at green lights) and still fuel effiecient

5. Transmission:Either also can; if the auto is better than manual then would prefer it. Also curious if can install aftermarket dual clutch.

6. NA or FI ?: Not sure if FI is available for these but would love to know what FI experience is like

7. Tyres: Not sure what to fill in here.....how woud run-flats affect the vehicle's performance and maintenance?

8. Remarks:What should the maintenance costs be like? Which has better cabin quality?

i don't mind at all. there won't be loan involved. my only concern with >10yo car is FC. is it gonna be ok? i still think kelisa is the safer option in terms of FC & maintenance cost, am i right to say this?

That kinda hard, i think u need to revise either ur car age to 2000 or increase ur budget.

U need a saloon around 1.5cc to 1.6cc range. If u stick with ur budget, consider the waja from 2002-2004 model.

10-15k wont get u much choices unless if u go for old 15-20yr old japanese saloons like corolla AE100 or Honda civic EJ or 10yr++ proton wiras or iswara.

Ford Focus RS? Not a chance in Mysia. shakehead.gif

But since u like handling cars, i only can think the mazda 3 2.0 or the ford focus 2.0 hatchback which fits rightly to ur budget. U better test drove both these cars to decide which is the best as i think they r more or less the same in terms of performance or FC, but i bet they r better ride n handling cars than the usual civic, corolla or camry.

Their FC wont be as good as they r new. So i suggest to get manual if u insist of good FC n mileage. The kelisa is the safest choice, but well, all depending to ur requirement. I prefer an older japanese saloon than the kelisa anytime.

Ok, I'm looking to buy a car in several months, so I'm starting to do some research.

I have 3 type of cars in mind:
1. Peroduo Kelisa (A) Used. 2005-06. Scouted price: around RM 25k.
2. Honda City i-DSi (A) Used. 2004. Scouted price: around RM 48k.
3. Perodua Myvi (A) Brand New. Price: I heard it's around 48k?

The reason why I shortlisted the Kelisa, it would be because of the affordability. I don't have to burdened myself with huge car loan and can pay it off faster. I would probably use this car for a shorter term, maybe 5 years before buying a better car.

However, I'm also thinking of getting a more reliable car for longer use, perhaps up to 10 years before I consider changing to a better car.
I'm considering a brand new Perodua Myvi or a used Japanese car (Honda or Toyota) for this reason. I'm torn between a brand new car (Myvi comes into mind. I don't think I want a Proton) with my 50k max budget, or a used Japanese Car (Honda City comes into mind).
So what should I go for if I want decide to pay more? Brand new Myvi or used City? The downside of this is the 23-25k price difference compared to used Kelisa. This means bigger car loan and longer payment period. It can be quite a burden.

So, can anyone give me any advice? In addition to that:
i) How is the maintenance like for these 3 cars? Which one would be low maintenance and cost me less generally, and in the long run?
ii) I skimmed through this thread and read about the supposed "Honda gearbox problem". What is this? Does it affect 2004 City?
iii) How do I check the engine when buying a used car? I mean, I'm really a noob when it comes to car stuff.
iv) Any other suggestion for a max 50k budget to buy a reliable car that can serve me well for 10 years at least?

Additional info: I will probably travel a lot from house to work within Klang Valley area.

I'd appreciate it if my questions are answered!

I would pick the RX8 if u looking for a coupe but if sedan is ur asking, the mazda 3 2.0 is ur choice. Looks nice n sporty, not to mention its shiftronic n fun to drive.

For a mid 30s pricelist, you could also consider Kia or Hyundai. Its reliable car and bigger as well.
