fully understood that.. is the performance good (leave games out of this).. i.e the surfing experience, watching movies, preparing documents, slides..

1 more thing; how good is the asus k50ab anyway? i know it has ati 4570 but how is the gaming experience relatively? pes 2010 can play nicely?

4810TZ, for normal usage is fine, but not really can multitask alot, since you are sacrificing performance for better battery life.

as quoted from k50ab thread, it even can play Crysis at Mainstream/ Medium detail at 1280x720 or 1280x768 after some tweaking laugh.gif
but not sure pes2010, never played before.
better ask the user here

Good morning! I am looking to buy a new laptop.

1. Brand - not really picky on this, preferably good ones like Dell, Lenovo..not Acer or Compaq though..

2. Budget - below RM2.6k.

3. Specs - needed for light usage of photoshop, flash, director..some programming IDE like Visual Studio, NetBean...

4. Size - not too wide...normal size will do..

Thank you very much for your generous suggestion and share of opinions.

1) new
2) CULV are around there
3) probably lowest with reduced resolution, and still lagging
4) expensive even for a CULV...
3) Dell SXPS 16, BenQ S57

so, dell would be a better gaming laptop since it has a slightly more superior gc? besides, i am bringing this laptop to NZ, does benQ has a service center there? are there any other alternatives beside those two? i am staying in Sabah and the laptops offered here are pretty crap... anyone has a price list of those laptops that are sold in KL?? would appreciate it

slightly superior??? doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

gosh, HD4670 is miles away from G 105M... sweat.gif

well, i am not very sure abt Dell's policy for overseas warranty... u may wanna ask the users instead... as for BenQ, iirc they have a service center, but BenQ offers only 1yr int'l warranty...

well, can say benq s57 might perform better if everything run on default, since benq s57 runs on 1366x768 while sxps 16 runs at 1920x1080.
alternatives with similar spec is... sager np2098, doubt you can find it, next is lenovo y550, p8700 and nvidia gt240m for around rm 3.9k.

else, for less performance, vaio CW16 with p8700, gt230m; lenovo y450 with p8700, gt130m; benq s42 with p8700, nvidia 9600m gt.

Kinda pointless comparing performance when the resolution is different.SXPS 16 has an advantage by having the versatility to change its resolution

if want dvd drive, consider dell inspiron 13z, unless you need some light gaming, acer 4810TG, asus ul30vt, ul80vt.

any requirement on battery life expectation?

unless price is an issue, can consider acer 1810T or acer ferrari one, better spec than toshiba but cheaper.
hp dv2, battery life is quite short comparing to those two.
lenovo s10-2 would be the cheapest but slowest performance.

Budget: <RM5k (might consider up to RM6k, depending on the specs)
Usage: Some video editing, medium gaming, heavy multi-tasking (at least 4GB RAM, hence 64-bit Windows 7 is a must)
Optical disc drive
14 ~ 15" LED backlit screen (13.3" are popular nowadays, but watching movies on the screen strains my eyes!)

I was looking at some CULVs, Envy 15, Acer Aspire 4810, ASUS UL80VT...
Love Dell XPS 16's specs, but weight is a bit on the heavy side.

Going to US next fall. Wondering whether college students really lug around their laptops that much? If not i'd much rather go for performance rather than light-weights. I'm using an old T43 Thinkpad at the moment. At 2.3kg, i find that i get bruises on my shoulders on the few occasions i bring it to college. So basically my i'm torn between performance and weight. So should i go for the XPS 16?
