No one else has this wifi issue? maybe my set is screwed..

Maybe try deleting the saved AP and then reconnect it again and save fresh. I assume your router AP is protected with WEP/WPA? Doublecheck the saved login settings too.

I've had a few problems with WIFI connection problems before and mostly its related to the router/settings or physical barriers reducing the signal rather than the phone. One way to test is to go to another AP (neighbour's, friend's, maybe starbucks etc) and see if you have any connection problems. Preferably test this on an AP that has close to full signal.

Also Android marketplace does have a few WIFI management apps. You can try installing those and see if they can help. Sometimes, its just screwy compatibility between router and the unit (i've had several laptops with same settings but one can connect and another just can't, change router then no problem).

Edit: haha i just realized without wifi, u can't access marketplace other than with 3g/HSPDA. Well that might limit being able to install apps if you don't have a data plan.

Weird thing is i can't connect to my home router only. I can connect to public wifi just fine though. It's probably a compatibility thing. I'll just roll with 3g now.

My other issue is with the blue tooth though. my PS3 blue tooth can't be seen it's weird. Are there specific head sets for this?

Oh yeah... this thing kicks ass. I'm still wondering if i should root it or not. Mainly to get access to the market place.

Haha me too. Im contemplating wheather to root or not. Now im downloading a lot of free stuff from d market as i didn,t intent to buy it. However the drawback will be everything will be installed to the phone memory instead of sd card. Later surely it'll full. Wawawa

Just keep scanning a few times. Maybe try checking the "Discoverable" option in the Bluetooth settings too. I took about 4 tries at scanning before I got the Stone to pick up my turned on Motorola bluetooth headset. Once it picked it up, it connected pretty fast and I have had no issues since then.

On another note, I just found out about the Motorola Phone Portal today (its preinstalled in the Stone application menu as Phone Portal). When you connect with cable to your pc, select "Portal and Tools". Awesome, it opened a web browser interface with options to backup sms and contacts + edit photos and some settings too.

Found an interesting article that discusses the lower effective resolution of the AMOLED screen (Nex1) vs what the manufacturer claims (653x392 vs 800x480). The lower effective resolution is due to the way subpixels are arranged for AMOLED.

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2010/0...-and-hacks.ars/

Relevent to Milestoners because the article does compare the N1 screen lack of sharpness with the Milestone/Droid at several points. Just another reason for us to be happy with the Milestone.
*
Hmmm hmm.gif that kind explains why things are displayed differently. On the N1, things look wider and bigger while on the Milestone everything is so compact and dense. I agree that texts are displayed great on the Milestone! Everything is so smooth.

Those of you who like tech but not into all the nuts and bolts, worried whether you need to do a lot of scary stuff to get the Milestone workable --- DON'T WORRY!  I'm not a Linux programmer and I have had the phone since before CNY, installed LOADS of free apps, did 2 OS upgrades to 2.1, and I don't regret paying RM$200 more than the current AP price, I've learnt so much and had so much fun.

I see frenz with iP**** and I am so happy I didn't almost get one! I can't BELIEVE there are ppl still thinking about X10 N900 whatever.

Yeah, I can't believe people are talking about N900. I don't mind that it is using a resistive touch screen but the interface is really weird. Its not really a phone. You have to use it in landscape while the dialer only works in portrait. Its just not really a good product at this point. Maybe Nokia has no choice but to bring in the MID and make it phone-like because it has nothing to compete on the 'modern OS' market.

Guys, if any of you are interested in a short hands-on review, I wrote something on my blog. Took some pictures as well. It was just a few hours of playing with the phone, but generally it's a positive experience. Love the build and keyboard.

And yes, text looks better on the Milestone than the Nexus One (which I own). But the opposite is true for colours, they are much better on the Nexus One due to AMOLED.

Hands-on and short review

Yes it is and a lot of people is anticipating the day where they can break free from bootloader protection and get a hand on overclocking that device. Because seriously, that device can handle 800MHz easy.

Hi Bro based on your opinion is it better to get Nexus One or Milestone since they are both around the same price.

Depends on whether you want a keyboard or not. Another thing is whether you are interested in developing anything for Android (as in the OS, not applications). Nexus One is much more developer friendly - its SPL is officially unlockable. The other thing to consider is that you are going to be paying a premium for the N1 since it's not available locally directly from Google. The Milestone is very much cheaper if you take AP sets into account. Even the official set is slightly cheaper than the N1.

All the other aspects of the phone is more or less equal - display, build, performance, etc.

Motonav is pretty good. I shoe-horned it into my Nexus One. Absolutely love it. The problem is... you can't get it installed on the Milestone (tried and failed) so the only way to use Motonav on Milestones is to activate it for USD59. Papago does not work on 2.1 yet. You can try looking for iGo (Motonav is actually a re-branded iGo). The ones I found didn't work on WVGA screens.

The RSD Lite is a Motorola thing, not related to any other like OS irrespective of version. SBF is the firmware package that RSD Lite requires to program into your Motorola device.

In other words, RSD Lite is a device flashing utility for programming Motorola devices (Milestone, RAZR, etc). Its good in the sense you drop the entire package into the ROM and let it go from there. This is different from Google's OTA updates which are incremental in nature. You just download a small package off the network and apply it on top of your current state.

But OTA is more convenient since it doesn't erase your phone and you're good to go the moment it completes. RSD Lite completely removes everything and you will have to either re-install or restore from backup. But you get the advantage of starting completely new and most enthusiasts like to start fresh.

Take note that RSD Lite + SBF procedures are only for those who knows what they are doing. Risky area here.

Ah.. i see. So if i simply want access to the paid for marketplace i should use a different method of rooting?

I've seen another method that drops a file in the memory card and lets the phone update itself from there.

I may be getting the terminology (definition of rooting) wrong so forgive me.
