QUOTE(haroldz123 @ Mar 27 2010, 09:53 PM) Actually milestone has already been rooted for several months now on 2.01. For 2.1, rooting was also successfully done by downgrading the recovery file too and then patching too. Rooting lets you run certain programs that require superuser access. I think the main issue now revolves around the locked bootloader which still has not been bypassed yet so far. Without this, we still can't install any custom ROMs. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with current state and haven't felt the need for custom roms yet. The current regular milestone with 2.1 works great enough for me. |

QUOTE(scpt @ Mar 27 2010, 10:25 AM) I updated straight from the Motorola driver update software, I'm assuming the software didn't erase and wipe for me. And if I were to do that I need RSD lite, is that correct? Haven't try using RSD lite before. You don't need RSD Lite. All you need to do is boot into bootloader mode. Refer to instructions from the internet. There will be some options. Use the D-pad to browse your selection. First do a factory reset, then wipe, then restart. Your phone will be returned to its original condition. Remember to backup before performing this. The reboots are really random, can be from 12 hours uptime or 48+ hours then auto reboot. |

Found an interesting article that discusses the lower effective resolution of the AMOLED screen (Nex1) vs what the manufacturer claims (653x392 vs 800x480). The lower effective resolution is due to the way subpixels are arranged for AMOLED.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2010/0...-and-hacks.ars/ Relevent to Milestoners because the article does compare the N1 screen lack of sharpness with the Milestone/Droid at several points. Just another reason for us to be happy with the Milestone. |

The current regular milestone with 2.1 works great enough for me. Those of you who like tech but not into all the nuts and bolts, worried whether you need to do a lot of scary stuff to get the Milestone workable --- DON'T WORRY! I'm not a Linux programmer and I have had the phone since before CNY, installed LOADS of free apps, did 2 OS upgrades to 2.1, and I don't regret paying RM$200 more than the current AP price, I've learnt so much and had so much fun.I see frenz with iP**** and I am so happy I didn't almost get one! I can't BELIEVE there are ppl still thinking about X10 N900 whatever. 111 |
