lolz.. yeah. i have yet to try the hack.. ahh.. gotta try it back home.. hopefully.. its works...

and kinda worry.. will the fan be spoiled? lolz.. full speed all the time.. much strain eh
*
Dont know, but I rather have the fan died first rather than any part of my lappy, especially the GPU and CPU

Newsflash! I bought a few resistor at Jalan Pasar today after Friday prayer to lower the fan voltage, lower voltage = lower speed if you dont know.

I found 10 ohm is enough to make it quiet, but its still a bit slower than I wanted so I parallel 10 ohm with 20 ohm resistor to get 6.67 ohm and now the voltage is 3.89V instead of 5.09V (the onboard fan connector is somewhere at 1.XXV region if I remember correctly). Even with single 10 ohm is a lot faster than onboard fan voltage

Picture of the paralled resistor on the lappy, a bit messy since I dont cut the extra legs, but its ok as long as its not shorted somehwere, I use cello tape biggrin.gif

najmods..u really crazy mod lar..wad u study d?electronic?
*
No, you should read where I 'from'
<----
I have little background in electronics, but I like to discover things and from year 2007 I 'discovered' audiophilia and learn electronics from there, from not knowing what are opamp, now I can create my own circuits for analog out of my soundcard

This is basic electronics, just a resistor to limit the voltage and apply Ohm's Law but the fan dont have any sticker about how much amps it uses I just guess the value, resistor at Jalan Pasar for 1/4W is 10cent each biggrin.gif . Everyone at least knows this, its just a matter to do or not to do

need a ammeter or voltmeter or maybe multimeter to calculate the voltage??

lolz.. pasar malam resistors.. dangerous.. lolz.. ur k40ab is seriously a lab rat for u.. hahaa.
*
I use multimeter to measure the voltage. I dont do the math, I just bought the resistor by instinct tongue.gif Its not pasar malam, its jalan pasar biggrin.gif Everything is my experiment, I learn stuff by practice, you should see what have I done to my soundcard, graphics card and headphones

oo u buy the resistor at Jalan Pasar at which shop??
*
You can bought at any shop, I bought at Darson

EDIT: My final fan mod, its unbelivably tidy, I put the resistor on top of the wireless card but I put some tapes to prevent it make a contact and put a piece of paper to prevent it from shorting with the backpanel aluminium foil

Sorry guys, am looking forward to get k40AB but currently in SG there is this SITEX promotion going on for F83T, $998 with free upgrade of 4GB and Windows 7.

http://www.bootstrike.com/itfairsg/sitex20...ochure-leaflet/

Need you guys advise.
*
That thing uses Athlon Neo, for extended battery life but of course lower performance, k40AB is way better. Weird, if they wanted to use low voltage CPU for more battery life why use HD4570 GPU? What is this laptop for when k40AB is here? sweat.gif

najmods...u always open the back cover how does it prevent of the dust attack???no effect on the chipset meh?
*
What kind of effect? What can it do to the chipset? I never put the sidepanel on my desktop, it works well for few years now, so why not on a laptop?

Dust? I clean it regularly, my desktop once each month, my laptop hasnt clog up with much dust yet surprisingly even I open it up almost all the time, but I just use cotton bud to clean the heatsink and the fan. Other thing is, clean your room regularly and the dust wont be a problem

Guys please keep this thread clean, dont post anything not related to k40AB/k50AB. If you want laptop recommendation, go to recommendation thread, discuss there

EDIT: Another of my mod of the day, I open the HSF. Its easier than I thought but it voids the warranty, but I rather have the warranty be voided than overheated laptop. I found a bit of dust bunnies inside the fins, temperature drop further about 2C in load.

And an interesting I found is, there are actually TWO set of heatsinks on it, the one is the heatpipe to the back heatsink fins, that cools the CPU while the other one is just one big flat piece of aluminium without any fins whatsoever and its just connected to the main heatpipe via small patch of thermal paste, and this cools the HD 4570 GPU and the main chipset! No wonder the idle temperature is so high! I plan to buy the small RAM copper heatsink to increase surface area and further cools the GPU

errkkkk... i rather burn the notebook than voiding the warranty. cuz hdd is safe. while i can just send it to the service centre for a new mobo. i rather not pay for a new mobo IF it burn. xD
*
Well, I'm not putting it on fire, why should it burn in the first place?

I rather have the battery to be unplugged when fully charged, because I notice if I kept the battery in and playing games it got slightly hotter than without. Yes it didnt charge the battery but the circuit is still on and it will monitor the battery status ready for charging

so it is ok to have the battery connected while charging?

wont reduce the lifespan of the battery? unsure.gif
*
You should rephrase that question, how can you charge if its not connected? biggrin.gif

This is my own way to maintain and use battery:

1) If you use it at home and not move regularly, remove the battery after full charging even though its not charging, the battery DO get hot even if its not charging (this is from my own test)
2) If you want your battery to have a longer lifespan, use it at least half its capacity at least one a months. Lithium ion battery dont need full drain
3) If you plan to not use the battery at all (for some unknown reason, maybe a backup battery) charge the battery till around 40-50%, remove it and keep it at the cool place

No problem smile.gif And thanks for telling the update of the new driver on ASUS site.

For anyone who want a louder onboard speaker, you dont need to use SRS anymore. I just use VIA HD Audio Deck equalizer to make it louder, lower the 60Hz and 170Hz a few notches around 10-15 and other frequencies higher to about 23-25, it will make it louder without clipping (dont enable Loudness Equalization)

whats the use of new drivers? the hardware doesn't change right?
*
The driver is just that, a driver to drive hardware. What's the use of new driver? Adding optimisation for new games, to increase perfromance, bugfixes etc

Please dont ask this kind of question again

I have that kind of weird problem too, but what I did is open up task manager, end the program processes and then run it again, and it works. No idea why, but I'll need to change to 7 x64 when I got another 1GB RAM

its not working for me.. it updates the 3200 but not the 4570. and after boot up.. blank screen..

had to rollback driver in safe mode..
*
Yup me too, it didnt install the HD4570 driver, just HD3200. And when I manually install HD4570 driver after next reboot it gone and only HD3200 is displayed doh.gif

After this I run dGPU again to gain extra RAM for GTAIV smile.gif

Will this laptop get heat easily like those Compaq V3000 Series when on gaming and when on normal usage(I mean on the palmrest or keyboard part)? But I've heard this laptop is feature a IceCool design. So how is it? Planning to buy this laptop as well. Is it worth?

Remarks: I was referring to K40AB not K50AB.
*
Never use V3000 Compaq but this laptop is definitely cool to touch no matter what you do, what you play, even when overclocked. Worth it? Of course, especially for gaming

I just patched GTAIV, it works very well indeed, way smoother than before but the resolution is 1024x600

*
No. The resolution is of course in game, the desktop is 1366x768
