Yes i droped some in it...

I'm going to try to clean it by doing what you suggest to me. I'm lucky all keys seem to work.

Thx man, i have an other question, i recently puted XP on my laptop, it works fine but my battery lost a lot of stamina, i mean, i can work 1h now, compare to 2h when it was vista....

An idea?
*
If you use PowerXpress, it wont work in XP. Why use XP when 7 is better?

After been opening up the laptop, now I know why the right side near the power connector is hot, its because that is where SB700 southbridge is located. Even though there is a metal heat shield that acts as heatspreader it isnt enough

I put an old big Pentium III CPU heatsink on it, I cant believe how hot it is. Now I know why they put a big heatsink on the souhbridge in desktop mobo

I have a things to do to further increasethe battery lifespan, codenamed 'Superleggera' tongue.gif That is not just a fancy name and no go....I'll report in after I done. But not so soon, with my final going for another more week

I choose that name because its lighter physically too wink.gif

My aim is to get the most out of the battery while on move, when you just browsing the net and do nothing else. So I want to disable/remove some stuff to maximise battery life. But I use dGPU now, I want that 256MB out of my RAM

QUOTE(Sertek @ Dec 11 2009, 05:17 PM)
Hi, so? Does someone have an idea to increase my battery stamina while using XP?
I seek but i don't find anything...
*
I don't know, I dont use XP on this laptop. In fact I dont use XP in any of my PC

Meaning, before Windows 7, you have been using Vista?
*
No, I mean I dont use XP anymore. I only use XP and 7, never tried Vista.

I wanted to know, what is the idle temperature of you guys when idle (with the back cover closed I mean)? I want to do collect some data. Mine is 53C for CPU and 57C for GPU in idle, both are idle clock (1.05GHz CPU, 220MHz/250MHz for HD4570) in dGPU mode

With the PowerPlay set to Maximise Battery Life , temperature is reduced to about 55'C-62'C which is better than normal idle temperature of 70'C.

CPU 58C, GPU 59C. (1.05GHz CPU, 220MHz/250MHz for HD4570)
*
Is that on power plug or battery? Does it have any difference in temperature when running batteries or plugged to wall? Mine is on High Performance but highly optimised for battery saving and not use any software including Fusion

Power plug, but i noticed that running on battery gives further temperature reduction as HD4570 is off.

My Power4Gear is a bit customised, I only use High Performance when gaming. Forcing it to run at 1050mhz/0.9v CPU & 220mhz/250mhz for GPU even when using power plug to reduce temperature. Not using Fusion.

Alright, thanks smile.gif

If you guys wanted to try to save battery further, you could try my untested 'Superleggera' theory:

1) Remove the optical drive.
How many of us use optical drive all the time? With it removed, theoretically there is more air going inside your lappy with back cover closed and the current draw of this drive is 1.5A, it supposed to increase battery life too, I'm testing the former right now, and it seems temperature is only 2-3C higher than with the backpanel removed smile.gif

2) Disable unwanted stuff, like LAN, in BIOS if you don't use it.
I never use LAN for my lappy so now I disable it. You can disable other stuff like audio if you just wanted to browse in the mamak stall, maybe can further save few more minutes

3) Continue disable unwanted stuff.
I going trully nuts with this, I disable the internal mousepad entirely because I use mouse 100% of the time by disconnecting the ribbon cable behind the keyboard, but this means the L.E.D indicator underneath it won't work anymore. You can disable memory card reader in Device Manager too if you don't use it, and some of the USB port too

I needed help from you guys, I have e-mailed SetFSB developer (even though facing some dumb difficulties at first) and he (we) need RTM880T-792 datasheet, I try to find it but I can't find any.

If anyone have more 1337 Google skill please do help

I done few tests about GTAIV CPU scaling on dual core clock frequency on my desktop, from 2GHz to 3.2GHz, I noticed the average framerate is only down to 20fps from 27fps at 3.2GHz when set at 2GHz. So I done few tweaks on this lappy, as I found out the HD4570 don't have sufficient power to render at high resolution, and you need to disable shader go get decent framerate. This is the setting is the best I got:

1024x480 resolution (it gives widescreen movie feel), if you dont like it 1024x600 will do just fine and lose 1fps average
Texture detail: Medium
Other detail is High except Shadows are off and Render Quality is Highest
View Distance: 15
Detail Distance: 15
Vehicle Density: 15
Shadow Density: 0

If you want more framerate, overclock the GPU a bit, 700MHz core with 600MHz memory will do nicely, and when playing, Alt+Tab to Windows, open Task Manager, and set the GTAIV process priority to Highest

Just for a kicker, I even use onboard HD3200 for fun, it indeed run the games at lowest setting and resolution, not that playable but its not bad either. I surprised it can run it biggrin.gif Maybe Acer Ferrari One netbook using Athlon X2 L310 with HD3200 can even play it tongue.gif

Just an update, with my 'lightweight' modification, I get about 2 hours of browsing time, in dGPU mode! Its not bad actually, I even multitask a bit by opening multiple Adobe Reader and my usual more-than-10-page tabbed browsing using Firefox

Guys, quick question.
Is there a onboard GPU for this lappie, possibly allowing a switch to increase the battery life?

What a dumb question. Have you bothered to read? doh.gif

Nice, but its only slightly faster than 2.1GHz QL-64. But I think it'll save more power on the go as Turion have 3 power planes as compared to only 2 on QL Athlons

this lappy QL proc can change to RM proc?
if can,i sure will change it.. brows.gif
nevermind about the warranty
*
I think it can even support ZM CPU. But its bloody hard to find, and expensive. I found some at eBay but costs as much as RM7XX+ for the 2.4GHz model (the top model is 2.5GHz)

ouh, i thought the athlon is better coz it is for pc rite..
i usually hear ppl use athlon for their pc and the turion is for the lappy..
how to know if it zm or rm??
*
The Athlon in laptop is just the name, it bears little resemblance to its desktop counterparts. Its just a Turion with only 2 power planes instead of 3

ZM carries Turion Ultra name with 2x1MB L2 cache, while RM is just normal Turion with 2x512kB L2 cache

No noticeable performance increase in my opinion. Well shouldn't expect much from driver update right.  icon_rolleyes.gif

VGA Driver is still buggy. ARRGHHH.... mad.gif
*
Relax, I'm not bothered with PowerXpress anymore after my lightweight mod, as it can reach 2 hours usage with batteries in dGPU. Like you said, don't expect much from driver update, if the old one works then why upgrade?

Anyone tried Cat 9.12 yet? I'll try after my final exam finished tomorrow

like from ql-64 to rm75 or higher?
does the motherboard support other type of processor?
najmods?
*
From ASUS site (if you lazy enough to Google for it) it support up to Turion Ultra ZM84, I e-mailed ASUS to confirm this but they stupidly say don't upgrade the CPU, I asked again I just wanted to know what CPU microcode they supported in BIOS they told the same answer doh.gif

The latest 220 Bios seems to be good too. But please stay away from the 8.6730 VGA driver. After 3rd update, its still buggy as hell.

Anyone tried catalyst 9.12 ? If its good, I'm going for it.
*
I'm trying it right now, so far it runs like a dream. Testing 3DMark06 with 729/612 core/mem clock and got 3475 Marks:) There is new HydraVision options in control panel for controllig multimonitor. I'll hook it up to 32" LCD TV in a minute
