I'm expecting this thread will be a serious discussion about modding, overclocking, game tweaks and tips. It turns out to be newbie q&a festival thread which most of them are already in the first page doh.gif

Just to spice up this boring thread, this is how my lappie looks now (I hoping no newbie ask what is that). I've clean all the critical component, and applied Arctic Cooling MX-2 thermal paste. The fan now are reasonably quiet, instead of a high pitch whine now its only emit a low hum.

The fanmod shouldn't void any warranty, since there are no void stickers to be removed and there are no solder joints or hardmod on the fan

I really would like to try it before its too late.  sweat.gif

Didn't void the warranty so  thumbup.gif
*
Don't try, just do it wink.gif

In idle with resistor it around 50-54C for CPU in 2.1GHz and 47-50C at 1.05GHz, the GPU is around 50-53C at 2D speed (220MHz core 250MHz memory) or 53-55C at 729MHz core 603MHz memory in desktop. In load the GPU reaches only around 80C in GPU toaster FurMark, so in any games it wont even reach that temperature thumbup.gif Remember, my resistance is 6.67 ohm, you could use lower (5 ohm) for faster speed or 10 ohm for more silent computing

Najmods, lets say that I connect the fan with the usb power & usb ground via inside wiring, will i able to use other low powered devices such as thumb drives or mouse on that particular usb port?
What's the difference using charger grounding or usb grounding ? Which is better?

I fixed my mind. Will do it.
*
Yes it'll work, even thumbdrive. I already mention that, I used my mouse on that as I'm typing this. Ground is a ground, it have no effect whatsoever. As long as you ground it somewhere

hey najmods. how did you manage to make the wire connections tight on the usb fan mod?

is the wire type a single copper string?
*
I just use a tape to secure it there so it wont move about

Yes its a single core strand, but since the hole is bigger I suggest you fold it into two, just put near the mouth and not all the way through, when it got good connection put a tape on the wire so it wont move about

QUOTE(Krovaxq @ Dec 2 2009, 12:24 PM)
come to report as always smile.gif

No overclock, no mods, me.. a stock-man biggrin.gif

COD4: MW1 - very much playable - 1280x768(high setting) FRAPS: 40-100fps

COD4: MW2 - Awesome - 1280x768(med-high setting) FRAPS: 30-50fps

Dragon Age - Surprisingly amazing-  1280x768(High setting) FRAPS: 20-50fps

i was really surprised that DragonAge is so nice @.@ graphic is so cool, n fps was much an issue, 20-30 averagely.
*
Thnak you for the game detail/resolution test, I'll update the first post smile.gif

erm.. did u turn on the computer when as soon as u install the wires? as in to try out the fan speed? hmm.. putting near the mouth meaning.. it only touches the mouth and not securely connection?

what tape and where did u apply?

Added on December 2, 2009, 1:02 pmanother thing guys.. anyone tried GRID on win7?? seems like.. no sound when i play game...

and an outta topic question.. anyone familiar with logitech rumblepad2? im having a hard to utilise it..
*
Yes pretty much like so. Its just a normal translucent cello tape you found anywhere. Just use it near the USB port to make sure the wire dont move anywhere when you use it

If there is no sound, make sure the defaut device and default communication device is the same in playback device in sound properties in Windows, it only applied if you use SRS. If not I dont know

najmods..where to start open up the keyboard?i would like to knw..mind to show??
*
There are 4 pressure contact on the keyboard, two near the Altec Lansing and SRS logo and the other two is near power and Wireless and caps lock indicator. Just push the contact inwards and pull the keyboard slightly, it should be off. But do it one by one

wow man, ur really indulging into it eh. yeah hope the new setfsb would have it. I had tried the whole list of clock gens couple of weeks ago, just to test it out one by one. had hard freezes, and i rmbred, 1 or 2, was almost close to making it  sweat.gif
*
The closest PLL I could get is RTM870T-691 but the CPU clock dont budge but strangely it will hang if I set it too high. What other PLL you have tried?

btw, najmods open the housing wont void warranty meh?
*
This is why people gets angry with you, and you still dont see it. I already stated it in few page back

Opening up the backpanel WILL NOT, I repeat WILL NOT void the warranty, even the fanmod don't void the warranty, unless you rip up the CPU HSF then the warranty is voided since there are warranty sticker there

question about k10 stat, on the second tab, (p-state) when i choose P0, the frequency is 2100, but when i choose P1, the frequency is 1050? is it normal. both voltage is 1.15
*
When asking question, put the question mark in right place. That is correct, for 2100 set to 1.05V and for 1050 set to 0.9V

In AMD GPU Clock Tool there is 1.2V option but I'm unable to select it, but I found a bug how to do it, find the limit of your GPU clock, run it a while until it hangs, if it manage to recover that hang without reboot it will run at 1.2V all the time after that!

I'm testing the GPU at 760MHz now, no kidding. I've tested 3DMark06, the scores dont increase much though, only breaking the 3500 barrier. Looks like its starving on memory bandwidth rather than fillrate

The advantage of DDR3 over DDR2 comes to play now. The Core of HD4570 is merely crippled with the slower DDR2 in order to save the production cost.
*
Yes exactly. It would be good if I can change the memory voltage and timing though, maybe I can at least squeeze to 625MHz and got at least 10GB/s bandwidth

Maybe that would be better, but I dont mind the reflective screen

About the ASUS latest driver, it works well for me, both in dGPU and PowerXpress.

i had bad experience on mine. the latest driver froze up on the 1st boot. rebooted was ok, then suddenly BSOD, and my OS gone haywire. took 5mins to load, and wifi got screwed. try repairing the OS to no vail..no choice but to reformat  sweat.gif
*
Wow, is it really that bad? Hmm, what BIOS did you use? I just flashed to 213 BIOS last week, previously I use the 'older' 216 BIOS. Both works well though, maybe I should try the ancient 203 BIOS just for fun biggrin.gif
