QUOTE(my44 @ Feb 11 2010, 02:17 PM)
Dear all,

Just want to share my experience trying to redeem my MR for Frequent Flyer / Frequent Guest programs.

I have AMEX Gold Credit Card. When I called the CS, they said that Credit Card will NOT be eligible to redeem points such as Starwood, Hiltonhonors, etc. Reason? Maybank still haven't set up the "facility" for this type of redemption.

If you have AMEX Charge Card, then yes, you can redeem for frequent flier / guest points as usual.

I found this to be shocking after spending my purchases mostly to AMEX credit card only to find this issue yesterday. I even talked to the supervisor on the phone and she could only apologised for the problem.

I told her I might just write to AMEX HQ (in USA, I assume) regarding the silly things Maybank is doing to their brand.

Anyone else has the same issue?
*
I was surprised hearing this. I thought Amex Plat/Gold cc are under MR system, thus having no problems to redeem MR points for frequent flyer programmes.

You can try calling the CS first, and the officer will advise you.

Just got reply from Maybank regarding the AMEX Plat I am applying, they required my pay slip as prove of income? I feel this is redundant since I already submitted my photostated other plat cards during application. Not to mention AMEX Plat requirement is one of the lowest around (compared to my other plat cards as well).

Just gave AMEX CS a quick call to redeem my MR points to cash. You can only redeem in multiples of 200 points only.

Cancellation of the AMEX can also be done over the phone. No need to visit Maybank ;-)

yes all cards have the RM50 GST regardless whether they have fee waivers or not. The Fee waiver is referring to the card's annual fee (which is charged by bank), while GST is collected by Government.

If you're using for petrol, groceries, cathay cineplex, phone bills, you only need to spend RM2k to get 10k MR points. RM1 = 5MR points
For other spending, you'll need RM5k for 10k points. RM1 = 2MR points

IMO, Amex Gold CC the cheapest card to earn points for GST redemption.

By the way, Happy Chinese New year to those celebrating rclxms.gif

It could be probably your reference Plat card is less than 1 year. If your reference card is more than 1 year and your current CL is good enough to show a Plat cc status, you need not provide income pay slips. However, MBB has long been well-known for requesting extra confidential information from customers.

Those cards more than a year but still... sigh. Credit limit I believe should be at good level (definitely not RM 5k as per reported by a Plat card user in the cc thread). Really teruk this Tiger bank, I treat it as an insult.

It sounds like they don't trust you as a qualified Plat cc holder. Anyway, you have nothing to lose. Amex Plat cc does not provide attractive benefits. If they don't process your application because of the silly policy and attitude, they will lose a valued customer like you instead.

Frankly, if you compare the benefits of this AMEX Plat n AMEX Gold Credit Card, you will notice that this card is nothing great. Not forgetting you might need to pay a hefty AF as well (unless you spend as much as someone who got it waived successfully here)

1st AF for Amex Plat cc is automatically waived. Amex/MBB knows that this product is rather weak and has since reduced its income requirement to RM60,000 per annum only, as well as given AF waiver for 2nd year onwards upon request. Amex Plat cc now intends to target mass market but unfortunately, its benefit sucks, can't even compete with its Gold cc.

The cards were created to cater for different people, depending on their needs. If you always shop and dine at 10x MR partners, then Amex Plat cc may suit you. Other than this, I don't find Amex Plat cc is attractive enough compared to the "free for life" Amex Gold cc which gives 5x MR for purchases made in hypermarkets, petrol stations, etc. While Amex Gold charge card could be handy as it doesn't come with CL, depending on your spending pattern. I would say, among all the above, Amex Plat cc is the weakest, as its AF doesn't justify the benefits given although the AF can somehow be waived upon request.
