Yes, most of SG food is tasteless, coz their gov is concern on for their ppl health, less sugar less salt.
But i ate b4 1 of their nasi brayni not bad, although is $6 but it can feed up to 2 ppl meal. |

Within M'sia, sometimes Northern ppl also not used to Southern food la..
Anyway, my comments on S'pore (hawker) food: Katong Laksa, the original one memang no chopstick wan. Use the soup spoon, eat the thick beehoon and soup together- slurpppp.. Singapore BKT, Teochew's peppery, plain looking soup version. Yucks, the soup is prepared with lots of pepper and garlic nia. Sometimes, can find the dark color herbal version, of course taste not as nice wan la.. Singapore CKT - another yucks.. It's black, sweet, wet, and fried with yellow noodle (by default). Last time, when I missed Penang CKT when in S'pore, I asked for CKT - koay teow only, no black sauce, lots of chiili. Singapore Prawn Noodle - yellow noodle by default, must specify if want yellow noodle with beehun. Soup is pork bones based. Wanton mee - dried version comes with wet chili. If want something closer to home, ask for don't want chili, don't want ketchup, BUT black soya sauce with pickled green chili. The Cantonese Ah Pek at People Park Centre knows. My "safe" food in S'pore - chicken rice, duck rice, mee siam, mee soto, "lor mee", laksa, fish beehun soup, "ban mian" or "mee hun koay". Occasionally their Bak-Chor-Mee-Pok-Ta - took sometimes to get used to. Oh, for those who ask for dried noodle without chili, ketchup is added (almost by default too if you don't specify) When in S'pore, best to avoid the so-called "Penang laksa", "Penang CKT", "Penang xxx", taste not the same, ingredients also salah. Penang CM should go and sue them for using the word "Penang".. Now me hungry liao la... |

I could say the same about the food in Malaysia that begins with "Singapore" too.Maybe you went to the wrong food court for the makan places in Singapore. Jalan Kayu = Roti Prata? All Southern M'sia including Malacca Wantan mee got chilli wan...well, actually my taste bud differ..I luv Mleka style wantan mee wth chilli giring added..It's a must to me..and when I 1st migrated to KL 2 decades ago...I became allergic to KL Wantan mee..How come no chilli giliing wan..Phailed liao....But there are 2 versions of Malacca wantan mee...the normal black wan & the light wan witout black source but wth shredded pork & oil + the wet chilli....This is my famous type..can't find anywhere except Malacca QUOTE Wanton mee - dried version comes with wet chili. i tried the hainanese chicken rice in balestier road, corner shop. side by side with another corner shop famous for the bak kut teh (which is not nice also). the chicken rice... i thought what is so special about hainanese chicken rice, nothing special other than its rice. the chicken lost to most of the chicken rice stall in malaysia.

Curry chicken noodles at Senja food court at raffles place is not bad too.
In fact it has been higlighted by many programmes. but problem is compare with 2 years ago when i first try it, the quality has deteriorated somewhat. Katong Laska best place to eat them, at Katong. On the same road, there are 3 such stalls fighting for business, each slightly different from each other. Famous food war for many years. So call original, can't recall which stall..... but eat without SPOON? Do you know the reason why? Because they only want you to use the spoon to scope every one thing out into your mouth. That measn, you will likely sip the gravy - all of it by the time you finish the food.
Some places, Katong Laska is ...e.e.e.. to me, they simply abuse and use that name for the purpose of doing business. Eaten one such stall before. Another time, eaten at a branc, but the quality turn out to be... let down... Agree, some food, the taste is already gone.... especially those cook by PRC people.... SIAN... what to do? But there are exceptional cases. For those who went Chinatown hawker.... most food.... I don't know what to say, more like what malls are selling and even the taste... gives em teh CHINESE taste rather than SG... .in the olden days. As for taste bud.... I guess, much to each his own.... we are often bias to our own senses.. so can't compare much.. even my self, there are certain food I never like when I am in Malaysia. I won't say they are not good, but rather its teh uniqueness of the location... that the tastes evolve. So be it.... many of the foriegn food sold even in restaurants aren't really original, rather a tailored version to suit local. Even famous BKT in KL , the owner claimed that his version was learned from SG when he worked there (saw interview on SG TV). |

i am grow up in johore, and go sg very often.
singapore food rocks! the falvour more original ingredient, less msg. so if its fish soup, u get fish taste, not msg taste. that why in sg there are so many good items like bak chor mee kuay teow thng pai kut mee (soup) fishball/fishcake noddle cicken rice/ braise duck rice char kuay teow/char kuay - sweet and dark, the way it should be eaten! chwee kueh hokkien char heh mee fish porridge chili crab original resipi not the mini crab in msia i am shy when u all compare, ours foods kalah teruk cos way too spicy and no original ingredient tasty! u all beibu ppl taste butt cannot accept nanbu foods. |

Memang nanbu food taste different from beibu food.
Another example is the Fried Carrot Cake. Singapore style, black and sweet.. It takes time to get used to it (S'pore food). Esp if kena stay in S'pore for a long period (work/study). |

went to lau pa sat last nite and tried 2 satay stalls.. fatman n stall no 7/8
fatman one.. the satay is using mashed meat of some sort.. making the skewers lacking in texture n tenderness... the sauce is lacking in peanuts n watery n oily too. for stall 7/8, altho the meat is nicer, sauce is thicker n can see nuts, taste wise still lose to Malaysia satays. next is to try the other satays in other places. after satay go eated fried oyster, said to be good by many sg bloggers, rating 4/5. but waffak i eat 1 mouth nia i nearly laffed because penang's is so much more awesome. theirs is no wok hei at all, chili also sour n watery. |

Singapore got their O supplies from where?
I miss the ocien in Taiwan.. Even their potato chips comes in ocien flavour. Instead of ocien, P. Ketam got lalacien. |

The suppliers normally come from farms in Muar johor. But that's long time ago. Now I'm not sure.
