Hi guys. have anyone of you owners managed to find the silicone case or soft pouch casing?
I found only the soft pouch casing at Sunway Pyramid rm47, which is a bit pricy.

Capdase Soft Skin 2

If Using A-GPS quite fast around 60 secs, but might incure some data cost form telco provider.

if just using integrated GPS I tested around 5-6 minutes

err anyone knows if GPS lock is acffected by weather? i.e rain clouds?

Errr for themes basically any sybian series 60 V3 phone themes would work. I used the same theme I used on my previous E71. simple black on green and then use matrix wallpaper.

the capdase soft skin I got at atlantis SS2 PJ next to sports ToTo outlet. RM40 including Screen protector thumbup.gif

best price for Avaxx set I got for RM1180 nokia SRP is RM1290 AP set dunno.

I would strongly suggest ORI Avaxx set since AP also only RM1oo difference.

Just an update... the battery life of this phone is awsome. Last charged 6 days ago and still 15% left, both GSM and 3.5G on, bluetooth off. Average daily usage pattern - 30min of wifi (browsing, fring skype call, etc), 20 sms, 5 min of call (not an avid talker thought). Worth it.

I have yet to get one due to the following reasons and hope feedback from you owners.

1. Some of you said the ringing volume is low but the voice receiving volume is NOT low. Correct?

2. New model often have bugs. So you fellow reporting any?

3. A few months later, price drop like a brick so better wait.

1. I have not experienced it.

2. There are bugs. Mine wont recognize my samsung bluetooth headset even though other Nokias of my parents can.

3. For a phone with a lot features, I think its already good value for money. I bought it because my SE K800i was stolen and I needed a new phone.

I've spoken to Nokia Singapore and a massive update for E52 is on its way soon. Dont know when though.

May be it will be wise to wait for this update before buying.

As to the listening volume thing, can other confirm it is NOT low? My hearing aren't good so that is a big concern for me. Thanks.

I dont know about you guys but my earpiece volume is 2 steps before max out thats what I use. But I can confirm speaker phone is not very loud. my previous E51 loudspeaker is better.

check out 1st post. theres a new link to a Nokia e-52 blog. here you can find games, themes and other stuff for your E52
*
so you are saying, when using the phone touching your ear, the sound volume is not low.

But on the other hand, for hand free usage, the sound volume is low. And so is the call ringing sound?

Others confirming that? Thanks

Worth it.

I think the battery life creates more possibilities for the phone. Imagine back in the days when you had a smartphone that lasted you 2 days tops. ( 1 day one charge for PDA phones)

back then whenever you wanted to use your bluetooth stereo headset or surf the web using wifi for hours at campus or even using GPS, you would be cautious of how much battery you had left.

now with the E52. you CAN actually use that Bluetooth headset and keep it going for 2-3 whole days (limited by the battery of the headset) or you CAN even use GPS all the way from JB to Alor setar!!!!

Optiplex - for me sound of ringtone - Loud enough sound of headset - OK sound of loudspeaker a little weak

Hi,

I was also one of "proud" owners of E52, but the proud part lasted only three days and now I am totally anti-Nokia (but still stuck with the dumb phone).

My E52 was just unstable, dont know whether that particular unit was defective or the model in general also is unstable.

I bought it in September (ori set), just before hari raya. From day one, the phone kept freezing every now and then, and its getting worse by the day. Sometimes I wud need to remove and replace the battery then only it can restart. I thought it just needed some warming up so I let it be and tried to be patient.

But my patience did not pay. On the 3rd day, the phone was dead for good. It didnt start anymore despite numerous attempts to revive it. However since it was raya time, I had to wait for a week before I cud send it to the service centre.

I sent it to the service centre on 28th Sept. They said they need to replace the m/board but Nokia hasnt sent them the m/b stocks. What more, the lady told me they had tens of E52 having the same problem and admitted that the first batch was problematic. It has now been more than 3 weeks and I still havent got my phone back. They promised it will take another week as the m/b stock has just arrived.

I was really shocked but nothing I can do anymore. I switched from SE to Nokia firmly believing that Nokia products are much more reliable but Nokia has disappointed me really bad.

I also bought the E52 (ori set) a week before Raya (i think). and igenerally, it works veery well. It did hangs, 2 times, when web browsing HEAVILY. I usually check the disk space regularly, because, in my experiences, any system will have problem when no disk space left. Other minor issue, the built-in SIP client did not 'released' from the memory properly if I disablled the service wrongly. But, this issue is minor if you disable the serice properly.

Yes, I am using gizmo SIP service with Google voice. smile.gif ... So, today, I left my internet connection via celcom 3g (fullspeed data plan) since this morning. And just right now, the handphone start's 'crying' for the battery charging smile.gif. mmm..6 hours straight net connectiviy... not bad. smile.gif

Yeah, the speaker volume is low. But I can considered it as polite or sopan. Imagine if you are a businessman with ultra loud funky ringtones... smile.gif... The E52, is just enough to catch my attention, but not if I am at very noise places. Wait, I usually use earpjhones at crowded/noisy places, so not much issues with the speaker. Aiya, businessman don't go to crowed places or pasar maa.. smile.gif I think that's why Nokia designed the E52 to be a polite phone. smile.gif

Other than that, I am very satisfied.

p/s: I am not a businessman smile.gif... Just an old techie. smile.gif

I just got back my phone yesterday evening, I guess they really sped up my case once they got the mboard coz I've been giving them headache for the past 3 weeks hehe

Apparently they have replaced the m/board as now it has new IMEI no.

Anyway I havent really tested the phone, will let you be updated once I have

Couldnt wait bro. Nokia Care said I had to get it then. plus, I will see what the E72 is like before jumping in. Let's see what user reaction is after 6 months or so.

but for now, E71 blows away my E52 (maybe yours is better).

Are u sure that it has a great calendar?

From my usage, u can add birthday reminders in the calendar. You can only add a birthday reminder on the contacts itself.

Unlike the S40 version calendar whereby all calendar, reminders, to-do list can be included in a day.

Hence, I kinda frustrated with the calendar.

i second that.. been using my trustworthy e61i for many years, nvr upgraded to e63, let alone e71, bcoz waiting so damn long for e72.. and viewed a few e52 youtube vids, evn there's one e52 vs e55 vid too (the only thing diff btwn them r the keypads rite?).. i wanna get a replacement for my phone and this one kinda low on d price, which is gud, but then again, d gsmarena reviews puts me in a sceptical situation.. hmm those stable e52 owners r lucky..

I say that MAIN advantage of this phone is the battery life. I dont think any phone can rival this kind off battery life. (6 days with 3G)

the ONLY prob is the Fuxxing firmware.

When and only when a firmware update is introduce then this phone will totally rawk!!

NOKIA oooo NOKIA!!! please expedite the firmware release!!!!

(If E71 had the same battery life then I wouldn't have made the switch tongue.gif)

e61i, e52, e71, etc.. mostly all use the same BP-4L battery which has a standard 1500mAh battery power, superb than other standard 800~1100mAh phone battery power. it depends on how u use d phone also, leaving bluetooth/wifi/3G on all the time of coz drains quicker.. etc.

nonetheless, one thing i love abt d e-series is that they use this type of long lasting battery smile.gif

True all of them is using the same battery, but somehow I have to acknowledge the fact nokia's Engineering or R&D design team did some miracles with the power consumption (but failed in the stability of the OS)

tried and tested...even if you use an E71 in gsm only mode n dont use wifi n dont install garmin, it would only last 4-5 tops. The e52 would go twice as long as reported by most e52 users.

It means that the current hardware / firmware is really bad. No wonder lots of people face the dead motherboard problem. Luckily mine is okay. Running fine for the past month.

wahh lauuu soo fast one? hmmm perhaps you can go back to the shop you bought at mines because if I am not mistaken there is a 30 day 1 to 1 swap policy for electronics.

If they can swap ur unit for another one it would surely be faster than sending to nokia as they will wait 3-4 weeks for a new mainboard.

hmm since many users here had their phone dying on them perhaps can collect and gather information on the phone like what sim card? what brand and size of microSD? which firmware? Serial number etc etc

That confirm what Nokia showroom told me, they are stopping shipment for 2 weeks before they sort things out. Yours must be the pre-stoppage stock that was already out in the market. And this is the very reason why I am holding back my purchase.

Just to update you guys on my E52. I went back to the dealer, LPS Mega Communication in Mines, and showed them the dead phone.

They tried to jump start it back using a difference battery but no avail. Told me the only things that they can do is to help me send it back to Mobile Technics (main service for Nokia). And say lucky I bought mine as a genuine set.

I say, if this happens within 7 days I was told I can exchange a totally new one by another friend of mine. The dealer says there is no such thing, they even called their supplier to further confirm this.

I told them I won't send my phone for whatever software upgrade they have plan for me, and I will demand for a new phone or refund. For that I have file this case through the Tribunal Court through the e-Tribunal internet filling system. I told them this is not the end and I will go all the way.

After filling Tribunal Claim, I will:

1. Go to Mobile Technics myself and hear what they have to say about my phone.
2. cc a copy of my Tribunal claim to LPS, Mobile Technics and Avaxx Corporation.

This will tell them don't simply sell things that are not ready to the market, that waste our time to go back and forth to get things serviced.

Good for you. Someone should teach them a lesson. Having a phone that died the very day you bought it and no one-to-one exchange is not acceptable from a original supplier. Please do keep us posted.

hi guys was browsing around for new E52 firmware update snad found this on the nokia discussion forums :

Quote :

" Hello,
I bought my E52 6 weeks ago and I had exactly the same issues - hangs, restarts, dead phone.
First time I sent the phone to Nokia Care and thay only reloaded the software but few days later E52 was dead again.
The second time (after my complain) they decided to replace the motherboard - the phone spent 4 weeks in the service but now it has new guts and works much better."

The old E52 had IMEI 355216030xxxxxx and new one is 355216033xxxxxx, of course the firmware is still 021.013"

So please check your IMEI it can tell whether you got a faulty Mainboard or the the new Mainboard.

Those who can sent their phones to nokia care and got back their phone can please check?

thanx

Hi
Just bought Nokia E52 last week. No issue with my hp.
The voice is soft but still acceptable to me.

For the messenger (in E52), I use my home wifi connection to connect. And I got some message that I will be charged for each message that I receive. Is that true? Anyone can help?

Hi, got my E52 in mid August, a few days after it was launched. I have several issues with the phone, although I have reloaded the firmware (no new version then):

1. The phone hangs when the alarm clock should go off. So I overslept, and woke up to find the screen blinking, no words nothing on the screen, needless to say, no sound also. Even the power button was not functioning, need to remove the battery to restart. This has happened twice so far.

2. I have Garmin Mobile XT, the latest version. Locking the satellite takes forever, like 10 minutes, sometimes I could have reached my destination. Then it hangs after 5 or 10 minutes. Have to restart the phone, and the application, search for the destination, then only to see it hangs again in 5 minutes. I have the app in the MicroSD, could that be the problem?

3. Applications won't exit automatically. Log and Contacts will be running even after I have made a call or sent a message, not sure if those actually shorten the battery life, but having to exit the apps manually is annoying.

4. Can I turn off the camera sound?

Other than the defects I have detected above, the rest works like a charm, I still the like phone, but I hope it will disappoint me less.

Signing off, dark.knight

I am really fuk-up on this. Ya, it is really annoying to mannually "EXIT" the LOG and CONTACTS after I called and sms.

What NOKIA is doing to this beauty phone?

BTW, ur IMEI is 6030, 6031, 6032 or 6033? mine is 6031.

Firmware 022.009 is out on NSU / FOTA. Go & get it.

"A couple of words on FOTA, as you guys are interested.

The main difference between NSU and FOTA is the mechanism how the phone, in your case the E52, is updated. In FOTA the update is applied with a differential package, which results in a far smaller update package that you are downloading compared to NSU, where package sizes range from tens of megs up to over hundred megs.

Another difference is the way how the update is applied to the phone: in NSU it is actually the PC that writes the SW into the phone. In FOTA the phone "rewrites" itself. This highlights the importance of a solid cable connection between PC and the phone when using NSU.

Allthough it is recommended to make a backup prior to a FOTA update, it is in practice not necessary as FOTA is not changing any of the user's data. NSU might, depends on the product in question. "

Updated mine last night, no obvious improvement, anyone knows what has changed?

Garmin Mobile XT still take as long to lock satellites, and crashed after a few minutes, no difference in this aspect.

Anyone knows how to get Ovi Maps Drive running?

I m thinking of getting this phone (regardless of hardware issue) or N79
One thing though...

The camera..

Can someone post few pics?

Actually i m student, and i msearching for a phone that can 'snap' timetable, notes (save time to jot down on notebooks, and yet still readable).. icon_question.gif

N79's 5mpix for sure could do that.
what about e55's 3mpix? hmm.gif

What diff between that? at GPS information signal tu wrotes assisted GPS..  this night I test about 15 sec...
*
there ia a difference because A-gps will use data from ur network via 3g or edge to help the satellite know ur position. If just gps mean it uses straight satellite and usually takes 1-2 Mins on a good receiver. Using A-gps incures some data charges but just GPS is totally free.

Go to ur phone settings and then select positioning methods and only tick integrated gps and leave the rest including agps un ticked.

Then test the results.

this has been discussed many times..without A-GPS, it'll take minutes to lock gps signal.. with A-GPS, it'll take seconds..and the 3G charges aint that bad, supposedly something like cents or point cents for every lock.

N79's 5mpix for sure could do that.
what about e55's 3mpix? hmm.gif
*
i'm not sure if u know but camera quality, best if you go with sony ericsson phones... anyhow, 3.2mp camera by nokia should be just fine to suit your purpose, just be sure to press 'focus' before you snap...if u use E71, that'd be 't' to focus..

neither do i, but i do hv interest to own one..

for what i understand, the E52 does not have focusing mechanism. in return it uses a deeper than usual depth-of-field (DOF) to capture anything clear from 1m (ft.?) away.
this actually allow it to have quicker than usual shutter speed according to some.

e52 is using fixed-focus mechanism, like u mentioned above. So almost like autofocus, only thing is must take object more than 1m away. If you take photo of text, still possible but u'll have to play with the distance between camera and text few times until u get a focus, then only can snap.

so this will be not convenient if msh8h plans to snap timetable and textbook notes and such...go for e71! tongue.gif

1) Get and install the Nokua Software Updater (NSU) http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-so...software-update
2) Connect your E52 in PC Suite Mode
3) NSU will connect to Nokia and downloads the new updates, size around 148MB.
4) After updating, the E52 will reboot, and enjoy the latest firmware.

I just updated my E52, few minutes ago, and hope everything works fine. My first impression... it seem to be much quicker or responsive.

With previous version, I can make my E52 reboot itself by browsiing a Internet pages with huge images/pictures. Other than that, no critical issue. Never hang during receiveing, making and answering calls.

Hi.

If I am not mistaken, Nokia E55 is not available in Malaysia. It is released in certain country only.

Maybe only AP set in Malaysia if any.

Source of information: http://www.nokia.com.my/find-products-

Hope this helps. smile.gif

I have this problem.

The email function for e52, how do you retrieve old old emails. Now it's like set to only synchronize up to a week or so?

I couldn't figure out how to dig out some older mails and ended up going to http://m.gmail.com

Any thoughts?

-----
On the other hand,
I've just updated to the latest firmware, so far so good. Yet to test it yet tho.

*

Same thing happened to me. Except that my shop changed it without asking any questions. Perhaps they already knew it is a common problem.

I believe the E52 we have is already updated so it won't die. Only when you update it through the original Nokia website and start transferring files will it permanently kill off the software. Of course, using unauthorized applications like Garmin Mobile XT will forfeit your warranty whatsoever.

P.S: The E55 will be relased on January 2010 with a retail price of RM200 more than the E52. That's what i heard from my dealer.

Hi, bro. May I know how do you know the latest IMEI (front part) and firmware as you haven't bought the phone?

It seems that E52 users are no longer active in this thread.

Can you please give us some short review (e.g. what you like/ dislike about E52) after you getting yours?

Thanks in advance and hope you enjoy your new mobile phone.

Cheers. smile.gif

AP set, Rm930 + 2G + Garmin

As i've mentione, i want/need:

- fon with document reader (m.words, pdf, p.point)
- decent camera for taking pic of notes, timetables..e.t.c.
- not touchscreen/qwerty (because i like to use 1 hand when texting)
- not slide fon either (easy to rosak)

First impression.

M.word very helpful.

Pic?

A bit dissapointed when cannot actually read pic of text ... but somehow quite relieved when transfered the pic to laptop.. it is readable actually (thank god).. maybe the phones' screen not sharp enough (especially if you zoom).

but...somehow 'normal' potrait pic gets blurry and seems to have whitish aura surround it..
but panoramic view seems ok hmm.gif ?

anyway here are the pictures.. judge yourself..

Hmm... photos without flash are quite blurry.

How do you find about the maximum ringing volume? Will it be too soft for noisy environment if you put your phone in pocket?

Is using the mobile office a nice experience for you?

Bro, I have read somewhere that turning on the gps, wifi, bluetooth and 3G connection can be power consuming.

Here is the power saving tips "directly" quoted from the E71 thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=28235110

Hi,

any problem with your phone so far? your imei is different from those posted here, but the firmware looks the latest (correct me if i am wrong). i will be making an order today and not sure about the imei because the older batches have problems in hanging and dead phone (as i have read from the threads here).

1. how is your phone performing? please reply asap.
2. can you pm me the place or seller that you buy from? (if your phone has no problems).

thanks.

Did you use GPS these few days? Please check your Setting whether the A-GPS is set to always on. If yes, turn it off in the Setting.

P/s: Since I don't have the phone, I am not sure where the setting is.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Just disable the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) will do; no need to disable the integrated GPS (which is free of charge).

For more info about the GPS and A-GPS, you can refer to this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f=204&t=795928

I m a really newbie with GPS..

What is the different between OviMaps & Garmin?

- which one better?

- if not mistaken garmin is free right? what about Ovimaps?

- Do i need to change setting to A-GPS to use Garmin? or use integrated GPS is enough?

- Is garmin still free, even though i set the setting to A-GPS?

I have problems to keep my pictures in 'separate' folder..

Sometimes there are pictures that are private, but even when i moved to diffrnt folder..

it will still show up at gallery ("ALL/ Captured")

... Can i separate the pic to other folder icon_question.gif ?.. . . at least harder for others to find the pic..

p/s:
if anyone can suggest software to lock folders would also help..

Erm... I am also newbie in GPS blush.gif , and I guess you can get better answer in the previous link that I have provided.

Anyway, as far as I know...

- For GPS navigation, the most important consideration is the map support.

- Both Garmin (cost around USD 99 if not mistaken) and Ovimaps are NOT free, if you were to use legal version. Ovimaps navigation may be free for limited period, say 1 week or 3 months, depending on the phone you bought. Exception: Nokia 6710 Navigator has lifetime free navigation for that phone.

- To use Garmin, both A-GPS and integrated GPS will do. Just that the former will lock the satellite faster.

- The cost of using A-GPS is only charged by the mobile network provider, e.g. Celcom, Maxis and Digi.

Note: More detailed answer can be read from the previous link that I have provided. Just read through the 1st page and you will have good understanding about GPS.

Hope this helps. wink.gif

Worth it.

E71 battery lifetime is average 2-3 days..i read that E52 can last more than 4-6 days and so far the most battery efficient phone to date. If you only get 2 days without using GPS and with nokia email messaging turned off, i'd presume u're using the AP battery and not the original battery.

Use Nokia energy profiler and check the battery status in settings, my BP-4L shows 1500mAH, which is normal for original. Some using AP battery says they get only 800mAH, then u know its time to change..

also check E71 thread 1st page to see how to differentiate AP and original battery.

I switched from SE to Nokia firmly believing that Nokia products are much more reliable but Nokia has disappointed me really bad.

mobile phone browser does not support text copying...there's a website that converts webpages into text for copying but it'd be tedious that way..

I used to prefer e52 over e72 because of qwerty.. i prefer normal keypad..
keypad e52 is very nice. e72? (my father is using)..quite small.
but then i do think qwerty able u to type faster.

e72 has optical navigation.. fast. better for surfing..

camera e72 autofocus
e52 fixed focus.

mike, as long as u get the cert, most apps can be installed without any problem...some ppl prefer to 'hack' their phone so they can get maximum access, which means they can install ALL types of apps and without any restrictions.

Since u're not yet familiar with even the cert, i suggest u use the cert method first before u consider hacking ur phone, coz hacks only works for the certain firmware only and since nokia always upgrades their firmware, make not much sense to do hacking..

I just got an E52 in white, fantastic fantastic phone bearing in mind I have N73, N95 8GB, E61i among others. This is still the best, fastest, and the battery life is unbelievable. As a business phone everything works flawlessly and the packaging is slim and very pocket able. The build quality and internal hardware I think is 1st class since everything works. Compare to N95, it moves faster, detects faster, acquire GPS faster, more compatible with 3rd party sw etc etc. I have not experienced any crash at all. BTW it is not a music phone so if the ring tone is soft can always get a blue tooth headset so that will not miss a call in loud places like shopping complexes.

i've just switched off every damn attempt by the phone to connect to Maxis Internet without my consent. i can't guess how much that one day of auto-connection has already cost me. cry.gif i hope all the booby traps are closed now... phew! every few minutes / hours the breathing light will turn on and ask me what connection i want to use. where did things went wrong now?

one thing i didn't like about Nokia was way too many drop downs and sub menus to tweak the phone, i guess i'll just have to live with it. my first ever Symbian, and so far no complaints. fast and responsive, just the way i want it.

traditional yet with a modern touch. Nokia E52 ftw.

White color available? Can show some pictures?

warranty card lost alr if your phone still under warranty should be ok because they can verify from the sticker that sticker inside the phone.
For your problem i think most probably will be the battery problem, charger problem or the charging port of your phone spoil alr. Have you tried to change another charger to change your phone?

the phone is pretty stable and I think it has always been. They now have white, black and silver colors. Some points to note are :

1. Very pocketable, slim and classy.
2.Battery life is fantastic, this is very important as i pair it with a blue tooth device and talk all day not to mention usage for gps. What's the point of having a lot of features but worry on the battery, furthermore can charge via usb from pc if forgot to bring charger while traveling/meeting. Processing speed is fantastic, sends mms as fast as sms. Applications open/closes with an instant.
3. I think it's S60V3 fp2 so has goodies ie active sync
4. Keypad size is so big that one hand operation while driving is not a problem.
5. If font size too small can install Psiloc font manager, mine came with it.
6. If ring tone too soft can install different songs as ring tone as they are louder.

Recommended phone as it is not too fussy but has all the features, we do not want to look too fussy on business meetings, certainly do not want to look like we are doing everything ourselves.

I tried using gsm only but still my credit get sucked.
Not too sure what is causing it. Even opening the folder for email before typing the password (without accessing it) also will auto connect via 3Gwap access....

I'm guessing maybe the date/time is on 'auto-update' or something is on 'auto-update'....

Now I'm so paranoid that everytime after I finish using one apps, i will check the 'active connections' and to disable it manually, if any.

Oh 1 thing...

How to off the camera sound?  icon_question.gif
*
Been a while since im active in this phone section. Okay.. Afaik, asian countries have a law that mobile phones with cameras must produce shutter sound and beam light when recording. Dont ask me why...but this can be overcomed with changing the firmware to EURO firmwares or firmwares of other select countries.

1. With some selected countries/EURO firmware you can turn off the sound/disable it either by switching to SILENT mode or turning it off in the camera options.

2. For users who wants to have chinese language, this is a problem because euro firmwares do not have chinese language installed in them.

3. You need to change the product code to EURO (confirmed) or other countries (u need to confirm that it will turn the cam sound off). After that u update the firmware. Done.

This applies to most if not all N series and most probably with the E series & other nokia symbian phones as well.

Added on February 4, 2010, 10:35 amGUYS...im think of either getting the E52 or N79. What im reading on this thread is worrying.. i can live with firmware defects..but hardware defects like changing mobo is really troublesome..

It all depends on luck, just like buying a pc.
Really hard to tell with hardware on the phone.

When I bought it, it was slightly defective (maybe it was the display unit) so I went back to change a new one.
So far mine works fine and it has been more than 2 months.

Firmware, it's the garmin that is giving me slight problems. Sometimes can connect sometimes can't, but no crashes *touchwood*!!

Battery is amazing.

VERY slim, which I love very much lol

Definitely E52, I have not had any problems described in this forum so i think it's isolated cases. Majority of the phones would not be defective, mine's from Avaxx. The battery life is really fantastic, when it was new not so tahan, after 10 charges or so it's really good. I still use the phone extensively for calls via bluetooth headset, today I stayed on the line for 1 hour+another 25 calls or so, battery only dropped 2 bar and nowadays i charge the phone once in 3 days. The speed and size also very impressive.

i have never had the garmin crashed the phone, sometimes exit on it's own but most of the time it works. It is of course not as efficient as the stand alone GPS but it's good enough for me. I even used it in S'pore w/o a-gps

Added on February 17, 2010, 4:19 amI think this is Nokia's best phone at this candy bar package. Symbian S60 FP2+600mhz proc+1500mAh battery+2.4" screen+slim/light form factor makes this a great phone to consider. If the loudspeaker is too soft, the use of bluetooth headset will make up for it, as don't have to worry about battery life.

i have tried to crash Garmin but it does not hang the phone. This is apparent in some areas perhaps where the signal is weak and recalculation of route slows it down therefore 'crashing' the application. A quick exit to menu and then restart the program (it is still running) works for me. BTW enabling A-GPS helps a lot and i don't think there are data charges all the way, it just helps to lock the signal. Hope this helps.

Think original set is Rm1000++.
It is worth to buy coz of its long battery life.

Hi. Got a few more questions about original E52

1. Do they give you free voice navigation with the maps for life or only for a certain numbers of day only?
2. Can you keep all your contacts/sms/info etc onto the external memory card and when you change phone, just transfer that card?

Thanks.

RM775 !!! This is very cheap, I bought mine RM1150 but just make sure the battery is ori. At this price it is still a very very good buy. I think battery life is a very important aspect.

Hi. Got a few more questions about original E52

1. Do they give you free voice navigation with the maps for life or only for a certain numbers of day only?
2. Can you keep all your contacts/sms/info etc onto the external memory card and when you change phone, just transfer that card?

Thanks.
*
I have not tried this but :

1. The contacts can be back up and copied to mem card
2. The contacts can then be accessed from there as there is a function to display all contacts whether it is in the phone mem+sim+mem card
3. But the default saving contacts is in the phone mem so everytime a new contact is created have to manually copy it to the mem card. I think this is to facilitate changing to another brand of phone.

How to make certain battery is original? If it is by sticker, they can still make fake sticker, right?

I actually don't know how to technically recognize an ori battery which is why i buy zitron but i guess if i buy AP then i would buy it from a shop and bring the battery to Nokia to check. Perhaps this is why AP is cheaper.

Can't the shop also replace the Zitron battery with fake? Or do you insist on a Zitron box with intact seal on the box?

Yes but can always go back to them for claim if it is not an ori. Reputable shops should warrant the claim, having said that if the phone is too cheap certainly there is something fishy so I normally check with a few shops. So far those phones that i have bought at LYP have never had any problems. If want 100% sure then buy from a Nokia authorized dealer but price is higher. So if we want cheaper there will be some risks involved, this is a fair assumption and expectations should be managed so that we don't get too emotional over RM100-200 price different. I think LYP with so many patrons and shops would want to keep their reputations so it is better, Sg Wang I think not as good.

If we buy AP set, can we still download update software and maps from Nokia website?

Also, if we buy original or AP E52 today, what firmware it is now? And do they have black color?

I think they have a new black color. For the firmware I have the one before latest revision but since there are no problems at all i did not bother to update it. Mine's at 022.009

Mine's with the older firmware and no problems with Garmin but it is not as fast as a standalone unit so don't expect it to be. I turn on A-GPS so the signal lock is much faster and it'll not charge telco rates all the way

022.009 and garmin is 5.00.50s60.9. I think must be a bit patient especially when it is recalculating the route, it does not really crashes the phone but garmin will just exit, when reopen it will lock back to the same route, but it's not that it happens very often.

Added on March 11, 2010, 12:19 amAnother thing. I can get onto the internet but I don't seem to be able to set up my yahoo email. To disable 3G ctrl panel-settings-phone-network-network mode-select gsm. For access point go to the browser then options-settings-general-access point-select always ask.

To set up email go to open menu then email-new email-follow the wizard. I have experienced your situation before and most of the time either the line is down or the user name/password is incorrect or access point setting. Setting email is a breeze with this phone, can try again.

On email setup. Do you have to sign up with Nokia Messaging before able to set up email?

Another questions. There are many software for Nokia website for downloading. NSU. Ovi suite and it is really confusing. So to cut the story short, which should I download? Thanks

Nokia Messaging no need to sign up just download fm Ovi site and it's very much like a client for easy set up of the most popular email servers ie gmail, yahoo mail etc. It is in built into the E52, it's just that it's not called the same name. The phone can configure auto for most of the popular emails and that includes Mail for Exchange which is set up in a breeze.

Just register with Ovi and get a free email account. After that register your phone model. Then go to the phone's Ovi icon and sign in. It will then recognize your phone model and lists the down loadable programs, you download and install via the phone. It is not possible to download via PC.
NSU=Nokia software updater where you update your firmware but this is only when necessary, it's not that you need to do it every month.
Ovi suite is the 'new' software to replace Nokia's PC Suite, more features but i find it to be slower.
PC Suite=Nokia's software that needs to be installed on your pc and is used to connect the phone to your pc for backup, sync, transfer data, etc. NSU can be downloaded from there as well.

In short just download PC Suite as Ovi suite is still new and not so stable. Please also note that if you have installed too many 'ahem' programs into your phone you may encounter a problem in back up, so it's best not to if it is your primary phone with a lot of important data.

The rest you just have to learn thru trial & error or ask the experts around here.

Need not feel obligated i just thought this was the most underrated phone in the Nokia line and therefore giving my fair share of experience on the phone.

Nokia suites are either PC Suite or Ovi Suite, that's all. Since they have 2 suites they named it in general Nokia Suites. I would recommend PC Suite, more stable but ultimately it'll be good to migrate to Ovi Suite stable version since it will be next gen and also supports Mac.

I have had a few Nokia phones before and I felt that battery element is very important, stability and practicality. E52 fulfills this feature at least for me.

At the end of the 2nd day mine's still got some juice left but bear in mind that I talk via blue tooth all the time so it'll consume more juice. Please also note that the battery has to be run in for about 10 charges for it to be really effective. I'll be happy if I just need to charge the phone every 2 days.

Giving it more thought, may be it is the wireless thing.

While I did turn off automatic WLAN scanning, the phone will still automatically download the email "occasionally" so does that mean wifi is permanently on? If yes, how to turn it off?

I used the word "occasionally" because when I wanted it to download email and especially sending email immediately, it wouldn't do it immediately. It will just sit in the "out" box no matter what I do. It will wait a long time or may be even hours before it does so. Still couldn't figure this one out.

Could be the email settings or access point settings. It should not be a problem and you will be able to resolve it in time. I read mails on a E71 via MfE, settings are set to access mails every 1 hours during peak period, I turn off UMTS or dual mode and just stick to GSM to conserve battery. If you turn offWifi, 3G, GPS if turned on the whole day will consume a lot of battery.

I talk quite a lot on the phone, I could not tell you the daily usage but my bills are like RM500-700 a month w/o broadband just voice, all done via BT.

Anyone facing problem after upgrading to the latest firmware? Mine, the search function in Contact does not work anymore after the update. Can't enter any character into the search box. Otherwise no problem entering text in other application.

I still have this problem with email.

When in home wifi, it will automatically download email until manually asked it to "send and receive now".

When out to send out an email in a hurry or immediately, after you pressed "send and receive now", it will just sit in the outbox and do nothing for quite sometime.

Please, how?

Hi, I come from PG. May I know how is the price of Ori set in PG now? I read all page in this thread. It seem like stable and no more hardware problem.
*
Should be <RM1000. Mine a brand new original set and so far, no problem. Only have a temporary hang once whereby when making a call, the screen went totally bland but recovers by itself 20 seconds later. This phone far exceeded my expectation. GPS with AGPS lock in within 5 seconds. Without AGPS using Garmin, lock in within 20 seconds. Wifi. Read & edit Office documents. Heck, it will even read back your SMS when no time to read them when driving. In any languages you choose. If only it will also make coffee for me.....

Only complaint so far:
1. Voice isn't as loud as low end Nokia both with and without loudspeaker. My other 2700 is almost twice as loud on hands free.
2. Built is not sturdy but if more sturdy, would not have weighted <100gm. So can't really complain about this.

btw, mine is still running the older software version 022.009 even though it was fresh stock direct from official importer.

Voice isn't loud that you mean is earpiece or ringtone?
Latest firmware is 022.099 right? How is the battery life for your unit?
Long lasting as they discuss previous?
By the way, you install Garmin wont broken your warranty?

My main complaint is the receiving voice/earpiece isn't loud enough. No problem for indoor receiving but in noisy outdoor, is a bit of problem for my bad hearing.

As for battery. Been learning to use it often so draining battery more than usual lasting 2 days maximum. For pure phone talking with no GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth, I am sure I can get more. Also, the battery is still new so less lasting.

No idea about the warranty issue. But I am sure it will not void the hardware warranty aka normal computer warranty, correct me if I am wrong.

I read on Nokia review, they complain that people that you call cant listen your voice if you make a call outside a building, eg. road. Is it true?

Wonder this happen?

My experience is the exact opposite. The E52 background noise cancellation works very well and when I called standing on the road side with all those cars and motorbike passing by, the person I am calling hear nothing but my voice only. My friends receiving my calls were impressed.

Even with my poor hearing, receiving and listening to incoming calls indoor is OK. For outdoor, the best solution is probably a Bluetooth earpiece.

As for ringing tone, not a problem.

At the end of the 2nd day mine's still got some juice left but bear in mind that I talk via blue tooth all the time so it'll consume more juice. Please also note that the battery has to be run in for about 10 charges for it to be really effective. I'll be happy if I just need to charge the phone every 2 days.
*
Any recommendation for bluetooth earpiece for this phone? Thanks.

Contact search solution found.....very easy yet normally won't think of it.

Just removed your memory card when phone is on, then reinsert the card. After the phone read the memory card, the search function will be back to normal.

This I think should be due to E52 memory corruption problem. Do take note resetting the phone will not help.

I suppose like every computer+software, there are crashes. Yes, I have experienced crashes with Garmin more often than with Nokia Maps. I would say, 1 out of may be 10-13 times using Garmin. But the E52 always recovers itself without the need to do a phone power shut down or having to take the battery out for a cold reboot.

Can you please elaborate? I have never used Bluetooth before.
My criteria are:
1. Light weight
2. Reliable & no compatibility problem so I was leaning towards Nokia own accessories.
3. Long battery

And what price range are we talking about?

if price cheaper, I suggest you get the AP. Because recently new Nokia ori set is made in Korea. No more make in Finland. cry.gif

Because I jz get my E52 last week. I check all ori stock they have (abt 10 set). And all is made in Korea.

My old 2100 is make in Finland. Use until now, 8 yrs, battery still using the ori battery that attach in the set. Finland set "Good" thumbup.gif

Made in Korea no problem. Just we don know will it long lasting like Finland set or not. The long lasting I mean here is can use with long time. Eg. > 5 yrs or even 10 yrs.

Because for me. Handphone trend we cant really follow with latest technology. Unless I need it only will change. So I always wanna have long lasting phone. Like my 2100. I now still use it very well even he already 8 yrs old. haha...

The latest telco bill has not arrived but from calls to their customer careline, I was told 7MB of data was used costing me about RM70. And the phone's own log record did show data being used and yet, I don't know for what purposes. Hence my original question.

Some dealer will pull a fast one on you if you did not specifically ask. When asked, some will admit they only warranty the software. What a joke.

If u can stretch yr budget it is always advisable for u to get Ori set. Because if anything happens u know at least they will replace it for u.
Some AP although their warranty looks nice, but when it comes to warranty, u will suffer. They will give u lots of excuse to not let u get the warranty.

same as the problem i face when i just use this phone. I 1 day spend abt rm10 on my prepaid credit. When i just change this phone, I receive sms from maxis and said help me setting all the 3G access point. I totally cannot stop it. After that when i use Garmin o Nokia Map. They will charge me. Even I disable the AGPS oso useless.

So what can you do is go to ur control panel > connection > conn.mgr > active data. delete all. then wil solve the problem.

I have been keeping close tab of these packet data usage but it does not seems to be happening anymore so far.

Another thing to watch out is unintended battery leakage. For example, you could open some power hungry applications like Garmin and did not fully exit them. So without you realizing it, Garmin is still running in the background and sucking your battery dry before you know it. I should know because today, it sucked 2 bar of my battery for the past 6 hours before I realized it.

Added on March 31, 2010, 10:20 pmI have encountered 2 strange battery charging problem.

1. Once charging overnight, by the next morning, it is still charging!

2. Once used until battery power low and automatic power saving mode kicks in. Plug into charger and after 3hrs, still charging. Pull the plug off and battery only show 2 bars. Pull out the battery and restart, show full bar but I am certain after using it, it is actually less than full.

Anyone encountered similar?

All smartphone by nature will be more 'scary" than basic model like these Nokia 1202 but then, they are not smart.

Yeah. To be fair that's my concern as well. As many of the E52 units that send back to Nokia centre because of the button will corn off if you put inside in your pocket and yes i'm a guy.

The 2 soft keys (above key pad 1 and key pad 3) on the phone, I heard from the Nokia Centre people this is a common issue for this phone, else I would have gotten this phone. This phone basically has everything i need. Wifi, GPS and most important is candy bar and a slim one too.

If yours under warranty, get Nokia to do a complete clean installation. Better than self updating.

You jes have to wait for another release of firmware and hope that the new firmware could overcome this problem. Like E72, it also crash often until the latest firmware, no problem liau with Garmin. Jes need to be patient ya.. nod.gif

I have a strong suspicion it is better to take it to the Nokia Care center to do a complete flash and re-install of the firmware instead of doing piecemeal updates yourself. It is similar to doing a complete Window OS re-installation vs constant updating. I based my suspicion on ending up with more phone memory by doing it at NCC vs doing it myself, about 10MB more.

The downside is, you better back up all your data before sending to NCC.

Yeah maybe but i dun have to re-set the settings after the firmware update myself and fyi i already got 10 mb extra for both phone mem and ram for v34 (previously v31) so i guess it's ok for me

But 1 thing for sure, i prayed damn hard when my desktop installing the updates on my phone... coz if a sudden cut from the electricity and i'm doomed... sweat.gif

These smartphone are like computer. Brand new always fast. After using for sometimes and installing application, speed bound to slow down. To regain 'fastness', go to Nokia Care center and do a complete clean reformat/re-install.

Just updated my E52 (wife's phone) to 034 firmware last Thursday. Before that Garmin (ver 5.00.30) kept crashing and after updating it via the in-built updater, things worked out perfectly.

Just upgraded to 4gb. The camera is so so, but the video recording is so good. It is way way better than my pocket pc which suffers from poor framerate in low light and soft recording volume.

indeed. E72 is much better than e52. especially its camera.
*
You have to define what do you mean by "better".

Yes, E72 has better camera because it has autofocus. But E52 is lighter to carry in pocket.

Yes, E72 has QWERTY but they are too small for some people so they opts for the bigger keyed E52.

Have mine past 6 months. Bearing in mind these are basically computer with occasional computer problem, no problem so far as far as hardware is concerned.

I'm seriously interested in this one. The E72 is great, but then I don't think I'll use the QWERTY that much. What's important to me is that the stainless steel casing, GPS and the large battery. Any comments from you guys?

Anymore Zitron/Avaxx sets? Coz I could only find AP sets here. Some dealers said no more Zitron/Avaxx sets for this phone. sad.gif

Edited. Finally bought one, AP set. Manual all in Italian, but phone made in Finland. IMEI tally with box. Comes with car phone holder, navi edition

I have a question. If we update a firmware, does the server look at our IMEI or the previous software to determine the appropriate update? I'm asking this because I bought an AP set, and it seems that the phone was originally for the Italian market, since the manual and all in Italian. So if I update, would it update using the EURO firmware of APAC?

There is 1 thing that I still don't get it. For a supposedly smartphone, it does not have a stopwatch function. Even cheapo handphone has that.

Latest firmware is 51.018

How's yours?

p/s:
I mean perhaps when sent to repair the LCD, the shop reformat the whole thing..
So maybe during the process of updates/formating loss some function..

whoa...looks like the thread starter (me) has been accused as a cheater and a liar. Athough lthis has nothing to do with a nokia E52.

perhaps it can provide some lite reading for fellow members here.

please visit the topic on my siggy for the story.

I have Skype on my E52. It works fine except the person hearing me got truly poor sound quality with lots and lots of echo. On my receiving end, the sound is perfectly fine. I suspect it is due to the E52 microphone or something to do with the microphone's noise cancelling thing. Anyone got any idea and how to rectify this?

Thanks.
