Hi,

I was also one of "proud" owners of E52, but the proud part lasted only three days and now I am totally anti-Nokia (but still stuck with the dumb phone).

My E52 was just unstable, dont know whether that particular unit was defective or the model in general also is unstable.

I bought it in September (ori set), just before hari raya. From day one, the phone kept freezing every now and then, and its getting worse by the day. Sometimes I wud need to remove and replace the battery then only it can restart. I thought it just needed some warming up so I let it be and tried to be patient.

But my patience did not pay. On the 3rd day, the phone was dead for good. It didnt start anymore despite numerous attempts to revive it. However since it was raya time, I had to wait for a week before I cud send it to the service centre.

I sent it to the service centre on 28th Sept. They said they need to replace the m/board but Nokia hasnt sent them the m/b stocks. What more, the lady told me they had tens of E52 having the same problem and admitted that the first batch was problematic. It has now been more than 3 weeks and I still havent got my phone back. They promised it will take another week as the m/b stock has just arrived.

I was really shocked but nothing I can do anymore. I switched from SE to Nokia firmly believing that Nokia products are much more reliable but Nokia has disappointed me really bad.

bro, pity ur bad experience..dont sweat it bro, hang in there...change from SE to symbian is so very worth it and that E52 is a very good phone...just have to give it some time, all phones also fumble first time...

changed from SE to E71 and never regretted it. really bro..symbian roxx..

I'm switching to E71. My advise from my personal experience:  Dont buy this phone. for those who already have it and working properly, you're the lucky ones....

Its a pretty phone though.
*
E71 is a very damn good phone...but by specs E52 is better with upgraded features...if ur changing, wait for E72... tongue.gif

Added on October 20, 2009, 10:05 pmbtw if u compare E71 to E52/E72:-

1. USB1.1 vs USB2.0 (usb1.1 data transfer damn slow!)
2. USB cable cannot charge phone vs can charge
3. processor 369MHz vs 600MHz
4. and lots more... tongue.gif

Couldnt wait bro. Nokia Care said I had to get it then. plus, I will see what the E72 is like before jumping in. Let's see what user reaction is after 6 months or so.

but for now, E71 blows away my E52 (maybe yours is better).

i'm using e71 and i assure u its a very good phone..the only downside is the ones i mentioned before..if u can't wait, do look forward to joining the e71 community. rclxms.gif

Are u sure that it has a great calendar?

From my usage, u can add birthday reminders in the calendar. You can only add a birthday reminder on the contacts itself.

Unlike the S40 version calendar whereby all calendar, reminders, to-do list can be included in a day.

Hence, I kinda frustrated with the calendar.

hehe if no good can get other symbian app calendars..thats the beauty of s60.. rclxms.gif

Just got mine yesterday.  Pray hard that everything will be okay.  dry.gif

I figured out that my phone doesn't support chinese.  Is that the case with you all?  Anybody know how to enable chinese support?
*
just install new fonts...google 'fontrouter LT' or check E71's symbian thread's 1st page..

there ia a difference because A-gps will use data from ur network via 3g or edge to help the satellite know ur position. If just gps mean it uses straight satellite and usually takes 1-2 Mins on a good receiver. Using A-gps incures some data charges but just GPS is totally free.

Go to ur phone settings and then select positioning methods and only tick integrated gps and leave the rest including agps un ticked.

Then test the results.
*
this has been discussed many times..without A-GPS, it'll take minutes to lock gps signal.. with A-GPS, it'll take seconds..and the 3G charges aint that bad, supposedly something like cents or point cents for every lock.

I m thinking of getting this phone (regardless of hardware issue) or N79
One thing though...

The camera..

Can someone post few pics?

Actually i m student, and i msearching for a phone that can 'snap' timetable, notes (save time to jot down on notebooks, and yet still readable).. icon_question.gif

N79's 5mpix for sure could do that.
what about e55's 3mpix? hmm.gif
*
i'm not sure if u know but camera quality, best if you go with sony ericsson phones... anyhow, 3.2mp camera by nokia should be just fine to suit your purpose, just be sure to press 'focus' before you snap...if u use E71, that'd be 't' to focus..

neither do i, but i do hv interest to own one..

for what i understand, the E52 does not have focusing mechanism. in return it uses a deeper than usual depth-of-field (DOF) to capture anything clear from 1m (ft.?) away.
this actually allow it to have quicker than usual shutter speed according to some.
*
e52 is using fixed-focus mechanism, like u mentioned above. So almost like autofocus, only thing is must take object more than 1m away. If you take photo of text, still possible but u'll have to play with the distance between camera and text few times until u get a focus, then only can snap.

so this will be not convenient if msh8h plans to snap timetable and textbook notes and such...go for e71! tongue.gif

E71 battery lifetime is average 2-3 days..i read that E52 can last more than 4-6 days and so far the most battery efficient phone to date. If you only get 2 days without using GPS and with nokia email messaging turned off, i'd presume u're using the AP battery and not the original battery.

Use Nokia energy profiler and check the battery status in settings, my BP-4L shows 1500mAH, which is normal for original. Some using AP battery says they get only 800mAH, then u know its time to change..

also check E71 thread 1st page to see how to differentiate AP and original battery.

When browsing the net...

How to "copy" and paste text?

I only can read... There is cursor, but cannot highlight any text..

Anyone?
icon_question.gif
*
mobile phone browser does not support text copying...there's a website that converts webpages into text for copying but it'd be tedious that way..

have u tried the energy profiler?

budingyun,

sory i dont understand you.... how do i sign in please?  thanks pal if you can pm me?

mike, as long as u get the cert, most apps can be installed without any problem...some ppl prefer to 'hack' their phone so they can get maximum access, which means they can install ALL types of apps and without any restrictions.

Since u're not yet familiar with even the cert, i suggest u use the cert method first before u consider hacking ur phone, coz hacks only works for the certain firmware only and since nokia always upgrades their firmware, make not much sense to do hacking..

i have never had the garmin crashed the phone, sometimes exit on it's own but most of the time it works. It is of course not as efficient as the stand alone GPS but it's good enough for me. I even used it in S'pore w/o a-gps

Added on February 17, 2010, 4:19 amI think this is Nokia's best phone at this candy bar package. Symbian S60 FP2+600mhz proc+1500mAh battery+2.4" screen+slim/light form factor makes this a great phone to consider. If the loudspeaker is too soft, the use of bluetooth headset will make up for it, as don't have to worry about battery life.

Added on February 18, 2010, 2:24 am

i have tried to crash Garmin but it does not hang the phone. This is apparent in some areas perhaps where the signal is weak and recalculation of route slows it down therefore 'crashing' the application. A quick exit to menu and then restart the program (it is still running) works for me. BTW enabling A-GPS helps a lot and i don't think there are data charges all the way, it just helps to lock the signal. Hope this helps.
*
did u guys triy the different map types? with polygon, without polygon, lite version..see if it helps on the crash issue..
