Yes ! and the retail price expected to be <rm1.6k, what a deal for that kind spec ! the only drawback for me is its colour which looks abit dull

There's one thing though. They might have the same specs, but the "full" N97 might have a better camera, might have a better GPS performance, more seamless application integration. Storage for one is it's advatage over the Mini.

Nokia is making some pretty weird decisions lately.

N97 mini is just like the N97 but minus the 32GB storage only and oh also they keyboard feels much much better and raised.

Correct mate. When u see the graphics and the 3D accelerator come on if its 2.5k its still worthy than n97

Guess i'll just skip the X series although i gotta admit it looks fun but then lots of programs on the symbian platform doesnt fully utilize the touch screen so... Maybe just gonna check out the N900 smile.gif. Currently under heavy poison by Aino.

No, N97 owner like me will pissed off if the battery life live longer then it's own big brother. It lowers the screen size and many downgrade features. To me, the battery capacity is already suffice thumbup.gif

Aiyo, 1 day and a half with the use of phone calls, SMS, Internet browsing, music playing and video playing. Without these, my HP can last for 3 days above wink.gif

It doesn't have a slide cover so shouldn't be a problem. ALthough you can still have it of you rub and wipe it too often.

u can google n900's pic when compare to iphone, touch hd or even n97, the size almost same. so n900 it is not big.
it just thicker a bit.1-2mm from n97. n it does weight more.

Nokia always say that N900 is Internet Tablet 1st, phone 2nd
Thats also the reason y the landscape orientation is default for the UI

Btw if im not mistaken the price of N97 mini will oni less 100 Euro than its big brother, according to Nokia during Nokia World.

All i can say i think the N900 is about the same as the HTC Touch pro. I think thicker just a little and i love the touch pro and touch pro 2 smile.gif

Hmm,u mean the N900? I guess most of the problem is rectify on the N97 Mini so u dont need to worry although the size does shrink

Nowadays N97 users complain their camera cover scratched the lens. So Just opt for this. Not to mention the built quality is better than N97. Note: metal backplate, rings.

I don't know why Nokia is making some weird decisions nowadays, maybe it's their marketing strategies(most probably yes), there is always a drawback in every single phone doh.gif why don't they make a survey on what consumers really need and want then create a model which satisfy consumers' needs blush.gif

But damn it.... no on-screen QWERTY. So really no choice.

N900 does not work with MMS (Eldar Murtazin) while N97 mini has no FM transmitter.

Nokia probably think N900 is targerted towards mostly frequent Internet users. And they probably use email much more than MMS.

FM transmitter is not included in N97 mini to bring down its price. Of all the features that can be removed, I think FM transmitter is generally the least needed. Probably because sound quality suffers when using this transmission method.

No. both have the same firmware so both are the same in software too. But issues from n97, n97 mini should be more slightly better

err. the price is almost the same as normal N97.

so better to get normal N97 rather than mini if the price juz slightly different. Anyhow, different people, different taste.

Wait I'm referring to the RRP not the current price.
N97 RRP is RM 2480 while mini is RM 2180.
The different is not much as i was expecting less than 2k.

grr... so expensive... I just tried it at Gardens at mid vally~ not that nice... feel... nothing different as compared to N97... keyboard sucks than the N97, but feel super solid in hand~ UI, forget it... kinetic scrolling is damn sluggish!!!

Also tried the Satio(frm friend), nothing special compared to N97 except for the flash walkman like music player and the 12.1mp camera!!! O.o Feel super plastic in hand, just like a cheap plastic coated with cheap silver colour paint...

My last hope in HTC hero~ now waitting for the price to drop... haizzz

well.. technically... n97 mini is indeed smaller, but n900 is 'shorter' but 'thicker' and 'fatter'.... somehow, i want to see the meamo 5 OS system to decide... so.. still have to wait for n900 in any way... aiks... *patient patient*..

I've tested the phone in the store, well I can give thumbs up on the GUI for being faster and much more multi-task friendly than the classic N97. It feels more solid and faster than the classic N97 again but without the camera lens.

yups.. agree.. i think basically bcoz of 128mb ddr RAM acting on 8gb memory space is way faster than same RAM acting on 32gb memory space..

Only limited to 50 units and I'm one of the lucky owner. Woots!

FYI! I was 5800 XPM user, from what I can heard it's louder than 5800 and with more solid sound. Not like those just a LOUD speaker. smile.gif

It's way responsive than N97 and 5800 XPM. The accuracy of the touch screen seem more accurate.

Actually I got a best deal for it thus I changed from XpressMusic to N series.

RRP is RM2250 and the RRP for Raoul Edition (1000 units only) is RM2550.

The sliding mechanism has been improved over the big brother, tad feels much more solid and stable.

FYI! The RAOUL version only given an extra backplate that has RAOUL signature.

The rest are the same with Garnet colour.

RM 300 for the metal backplate???? look abit not worthy. Just my 2 sense.

Not just metal backplate. You will get calf-skin lather for the pouch and the phone landyard. I guess the normal mini doesn't has pouch right?

Not really! The interface are totally different. I used to own a 5800 and now I'm using the N97 mini. I would say, N97 mini is way more responsive than 5800 and also it's big brother N97. smile.gif

Accept speed? The higher ROM size the more space for you applications to store in and manage. I believe that would help the speed improvement. Just my 2 sense.

Depends on your usage, really. If you use it a lot, probably a day. But from what I read at GSMArena, they say that for regular users, it can probably last for 3 days.

I'm tempted to get the Raoul design as well but still thinking about it.

the mini inherits the same problems as its larger brother. Frankly, i don't even know why nokia bothers to release it. they shud have taken the time to iron out all the kinks in the os before releasing it. it would have been a major winner for them.

i've been using N97 mini for about a few days already....seems to behave quite erratically sometimes rclxub.gif ...these are the bugs that i've encountered so far...


1) sms received but listed under a different name...e.g. 'A' send me sms, but the phone shows 'B' is the sender...confirm sent from A coz i asked liao...then 2 minutes later, 'C' sends me sms, again 'B' shows up as the sender...weird! after restart phone, back to normal... sweat.gif

2) twice after i end received calls (about 3-4 minutes conversation), the phone hangs...only bottom half of the screen has display...top half blank...the bottom half can press on-screen buttons, but no response...after about a minute or so, phone restarts itself and everything back to normal...WTF?! hmm.gif

3) when i receive incoming calls, seems there's 2 types of answering method...totally random...sometimes, screen shows 2 button, 'answer' and 'reject'....other times, screen will show 2 slider bars, 'slide to answer' (slide to right direction) and 'slide to unlock' (slide to left direction)...i can't seem to find any settings to choose which method i wan.... rclxub.gif

just wondering, anyone has the same experience as me? sad.gif i'm on firmware v10.0.020...is there any newer firmware?


apart from the 3 'bugs' that i've encountered, i find N97 mini to be quite nice...

pros:
- phone feels solid and high quality (due to metal battery cover and also the bronze shade at the back tongue.gif )
- touchscreen is responsive for a resistive screen
- battery life seems to be acceptable, can last 2-3 days of normal usage (for me at least!)
- tones and voice loud enough
- camera is good

cons:
- phone sometimes behave erratically (refer above)
- when 'waking up' the phone from standby mode by pressing menu button, screen is very dim, unless u unlock the phone
- bass in music player is very weak even in high bass equalizer mode

haha...i think i need to correct this bro, my bad...max is 2 days with normal usage...normal being 15 calls lasting 1.5 minutes each (average)....with 30 sms per day, maybe 30 minutes surfing the net....i've not rilli fullblast it with other applications, so i guess u can rilli use up all the juice in 1 day if u want to.. tongue.gif

the reason i initially said 2-3 days is becoz the 1st 2 bars of battery indicator (full bar is 7 bars) rilli shows slow depletion...but heck, after u go down to the remaining 4 bars, damn! it's like watching the bars deplete... shocking.gif

ok, found new faults with the phone today....when i received an sms this morning, suddenly the phone switched off by itself... shakehead.gif press anything also no respond, even the Power button! so i took out the battery, then can switch on liao...again, bugs... yawn.gif having said that, all of the bugs that i've listed only happens once or max twice so far...in general, the phone still performs as expected....very minimal lag, if any at all...

anyway, all of the problems i've encountered is firmware issues, so i guess when the new firmware is released, shud be better gua...i can live with charging every 2 days (or everyday if i have to), no big deal...also, i will restart the phone every morning so it has a 'fresh' start.... biggrin.gif

all in all, i still love the phone for it's design and functions...i also considered the Satio, but the absence of qwerty keypad makes me choose N97 mini....another thing, Satio feels a bit plasticky, due to it's material used...bugs are unavoidable in smartphones i guess...depends on the severity of it....although i personally feel a flagship phone should be better than this....oh well, since i've bought it, might as well make the best use of it! icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah i notice both same feature but mini is one year ahead of the original n97 to be produced right? mini is 2009 september whereas n97 is on february 2008...

Since, n97 mini is newer, is it better in quality??? From what i heard, many are saying that n97 mini has a better build quality...

I'm wondering what type of case do you use for your mini? I bought one from Nokia and it cost like 150+. No magnetic strap, and only use it only to avoid the phone being scratched. I have to find a new one

Anyone get better case and where to shop?

hey bro, i dunno about casing but i would seriously recommend bodyguardz... its a piece of thin layer which will really protest ur phone from scratching and light-drops... i had it on my ipod touch and man its really neat....

I tested it out and it doesnt have a few advanced function, notably for wifi such as able to input my own ip address like the iphone or HTC hero.

How much u guys got it for?

There was a promo in singapore for it for just only RM1700 and from the nokia store itself. The bad thing is you have to put down a deposit which i did.

Anybody know if its possible to use ovi maps built in with the GPS without a data plan?

Cant seem to get a gps signal when i'm out doors on my non data plan number.

What do you mean data plan?
If you turn on A-GPS and network based navigation option in the settings, you should be able to get a lock within a few minutes. I didn't have any data plan with my old Digi number and it was flawless.

It's pay-per use(lock). About 10 sen which is around 10kb of data downloaded to get a lock on where you are. Even more when you're on the "Sattelite" picture view since the map graphics needs to be downloaded. SO a data plan might be useful, and a 3g connection for a faster lock and/or download.

I would say N97 Mini is an improve version over it's brother N97. You will NOT regret getting one. The built quality is really classy especially they change the metal battery cover.

However, the One disadvantage of getting the N97 Mini is that It's so difficult to find a nice looking pouch or case. Most of the pouch in the market is for N97. I found a few online but WAYYYYY too EXPENSIVE "Noreve Brand" Anyone got themselve a nice pouch for their Mini? mind to share some pic and where to get them?

Can try Novacel, they have the plastic housing (imported ones, Goo something, can't remember the brand) at RM48... Novacel Subang Parade has the leather flip up ones by Capcase at RM138....

I bought mine, just a sleeve or pouch for RM30 at one of the stalls at Ikano Weekend Bazaar....

i m having problem using it with my carkit. its pioneer brand and works without any problem with my previous SE phones

sometimes my n97 unable to connect to it and even connect it will drop. then a couple of times i force connect my phone hang >.<

i am having connection problem with the Nokia Ovi Suite. It appear message saying that my hp is in data transfer mode, asking me to change to PC suite mode. But in fact i ald set my hp in PC suite mode.. Unable to connect. Any sifu here know how to solve it?

apart from the 3 'bugs' that i've encountered, i find N97 mini to be quite nice...

pros:
- phone feels solid and high quality (due to metal battery cover and also the bronze shade at the back  tongue.gif )
- touchscreen is responsive for a resistive screen
- battery life seems to be acceptable, can last 2-3 days of normal usage (for me at least!)
- tones and voice loud enough
- camera is good

cons:
- phone sometimes behave erratically (refer above)
- when 'waking up' the phone from standby mode by pressing menu button, screen is very dim, unless u unlock the phone
- bass in music player is very weak even in high bass equalizer mode
i'll keep updating of any irregularities if i find any along the way... whistling.gif

N97 mini user reporting! haha... biggrin.gif yeah, seems this thread is rilli quiet compared with big brother N97... sweat.gif

there is still no new firmware as of now...maybe in 2-3 months time? anyway, after about a month of usage, my conclusion is N97 mini is the phone that i'm rilli happy with... thumbup.gif

further to the comments i made sometime back, the problem does occur once in a while...let me summarize lah...

1) the sms bug about showing someone's else name has happened twice since i got the phone...although it's not as serious as sending out my sms to the wrong person la....that of course never happened....anyway, as i was saying, it only happened twice, and i think over the course of a month, i've been sending out about 600-700 smses....so i think the failure rate is very very low...

2) on the issue of the phone hanging, yes, it's more frequent than the sms bug, but it only happens AFTER i end an incoming call....not a big problem la, coz it won't hang in the middle of a call, or restart by itself...

3) under direct sunlight, the N97 mini is rili rilli poor....damn, it's like u can hardly make out the screen under very bright sunlight!

4) in my previous post i also made a comment about the speakers...yes, the bass is still weak, but when u hook up to the earphones, that's when it rilli shines... thumbup.gif i've paired it with my Sennheiser CX200 (not the best, but good enuff for me!), and the bass is very good... cool.gif happy with it...


all in all, i'm very happy with the phone...of course, Nokia can still improve la, but for now, it's my most-desired phone.... icon_rolleyes.gif bugs and faults are inevitable in smartphones i guess...just make the best of it....after all, all the problems can be offset by restarting the phone... biggrin.gif

i encountered this too... then later i found out when the phone is locked (keyguard), u cannot use the control. only when the phone is unlocked, the buttons are functioning. a bit annoying since i will engage keyguard if the phone is in pocket/bag while i listen to music.

my earphones remote control no problem, still can press even if i lock the keyguard...but the volume rocker on the phone itself won't work if u have the keyguard on... blush.gif

for the name list issue.. u guys may wanna try edit all the phone without +6 ... or all with +6 in ur phone book... dont put some wt +6.. some dont have... .. if possible, u may wanna completely delete all the contact in the sim card.. some time the phone donno where to refer to..

no lah, that is just a small issue, never tot of sending to nokia to claim warranty..if u send, they open up ur phone, even more heartache..the sound is irritatating at most, but nothing to worry about..

Yes just launch yesterday we're selling this at RM1980 for original set. But normal edition is much more cheaper which only RM1800 for original set.

Nokia N97 mini has a new firmware update. It's a 2.1 with V 11.0.045.

Hopefully will resolve the white screen problem.

new firmware confirm fix the wsod issue.

but i have 1 problem here, i changed the product code and updated successfully.

for my another unit; i get usb error, regardless of what product code i use, restart pc, reinstall nsu.
for ota the error i get is; Phone not updated. Update package not compatible with the phone.

rm553 is the phone in eu ... most n97 mini in asia is rm555 ... no got chinese in rm 553 , unless the dealer update for u ...

I think the V20 is for the N97, not the N97 Mini. Heh. But the 20 is equivalent to the 10 of the Mini.

all the ap set users, ur mini keypad got the Arabic or other symbols?
the day i test 1 ap set got arabic symbols and i think they ard flash to asia firmware which hv chinese input, but got 6-7keys on the keypad are totally diff sign when u press it. for example the keypad show comma but when u press it become dot.
anyone know bout tis???

N97 mini does have white colour...even before music edition was out, white colour was already available, but not thru Nokia Centres...not many people know about it, unless u ask the seller directly...and not all seller has it.... nod.gif

etradepj has it....i also personally seen it in JayaOne phone shops in January.... biggrin.gif

arh... n97 mini black user reporting in. SO far er, got some problem but duno how say. Like i want change smth, it oddly hangs LOL... i langsung no update firmware at all yet...1 day old lol. i buy ori 2k...mahal swt LOL. but then the phone look really beautiful and solid haha

Try updating the firmware or hard resetting it. Never had any hangs at all when I used the N97 Mini before.

bought white colour on last friday...very beautiful and solid...even the screen is nice to touch...so far no problem but it is a battery drainer...out of battery within 1 day..so scary...and there is 1 white dust in my screen..don't know how it goes in..@@

Hi all.

Using E71 now. Looking at N97 mini as upgrade.

does the email app (not the new PUSH email) work the same way as the E71? This is the old email app that appears in the same folder as SMS Inbox. I'm not quite comfortable with the new push email app. Looks quite clumsy and slow.

I've used a few touchscreen phone before and maybe I am suay, most of those phone have touchscreen problem. Even 5800 also got.

So dont mind paying extra for ori set tongue.gif worrying the touchscreen got problem sad.gif

Worry away, chica, the mini seems (at least according to uncle google) to have a high lemon rate, lol.

Not that I have anything against it or anything (typing this on me brand spanking new copper mini - add me to the club guys) - but me brand new mini seems like its a lemon edi.

Why? The metal bezel around the screen has popped loose, causing the touchscreen to go loose as well and it's wrecking havoc whenever I call anyone (screen goes blank unless I press and hold on the top left corner of the screen) . And it's barely a few hours old...

Funny that my (traded-in) 5800 never really gave me such scary hardware problems even with all the heavy abuse I put it through (even though in terms of the firmware, it was generally a jammy mess - must've been all the hacks I did to it).

Sigh. It's a real shame because other than that little niggle, I LOVE mY mini - uneven keyboard lighting, light leaks, loose battery cover, tiny chiclet keys and all.

Anybody can reccomend me a good Nokia Care center to go to for me to sort out this mess? Planning to go to the one in Plaza Berjaya after work tomorrow.

Lol, I guess so. Was so pressed for time that I didn't have time to check it properly.

But really, other then the loose bezel and loose touchscreen, everything else is more then bareable:

1) "Y" key light a bit dim - nothing major
2) Loose batt cover - fixed with some diy
3) Chiclet keys - well, I DID want a slide out keyboard + touchscreen + slimness. The keys could be worse, lol.

And in terms of firmware stability, I really don't think anything can beat my jelly unstable 5800 which needed almost daily restartng.

Sad I haven't seen an epik case for the mini yet. I NEED one to make sure my mini survives through the year - like my 5800 did before it lol.

Just got back to KL (Kuala Lipis) from KL (Kuala Lumpur), lol... Seems that I'm not as remote and ulu as I think I am. But anyhow, service was okay as usual from Plaza Berjaya's Nokia Care. Firmware Update + Full front panel replacement + Back cover refitting in less than 3 hours. Also got a Capdase Soft Jacket for me Mini, the closest I got to an Epikcase. Works swell, shame it's not available in fully transparent form (only black + clear front)... thumbup.gif

Now I'm really lovin me Mini. Plus the fact that I got it at the same price I paid for me 5800 a year ago, and me W810i a coupla years back (all original) - main reason why I was not as exasperated as I should be over the cover issues... Only problem is, other than the hardware keyboard (which I now bust out constantly), solid build quality, the svelte size and the OH-ME-GOD-THERE'S-KINESCROLLING-EVERYWHERE - it's practically my old 5800 in brown, at least in terms of OS performance. Yeah, it hiccups less, but you'd think that a smaller screen + faster processor = noticeably faster performance?

Gonna test some of the homebrew firmwares later (not for the Jack Sparrow stuff, I swear!). There's one that promises 60MB of free RAM at boot, W00T...

@bboyspirit - Basically, it's the same. But not all the stuff you can install in the N97/Mini you can stuff into the Omnia. Likewise, the opposite is also true. Omnia runs smoother initially compared to the N97, but Symbian is REALLY like windows - it lags with time (price to pay for it's extreme flexibility and relative robustness). Expect both the OmHD and the 97 to run at the same speed after a few days due to what I can only describe as memory hemorrhaging.

hi there~ i just got my mini last week...mine is the music edition..bronze color.. When i bought that time, they said have the ovi music store where i can dl music for free for 1 year together with the activation num.. i follow the instruction and it still cant work. I open the ovi player and try to create new acc..dunno y cant click the button... ANy1 face this prob?Can any1 help me here?

Joined the Mini's club yesterday, first problem, "scratchy vibration". Have touch vibration turned-on, sometimes it doesn't vibrate, but generate a "scratching" sound. It is like the loose vibration motor. Upon searching the net, found many N97 users with similar problems, but yet to read Mini owner has such problem.

Any feedback? Hesitate to send in NCC to have them dismantle a day old unit.

my n97mini and my previous n97 smtme hve ths prblm but it's rare,it hapen ecpecially when the bty is low.if the btry is 2 bar n above,i dont have this problem at all.

No problems here, at least for now. About hating them dismantling a day old unit, try sending in a 18 hour used unit to the NCC for repairs (not even a day old lol)... Al least they did a dandy job on mine, now works marvelously with no problems except for the occasional random restart... sweat.gif

Oh, and with Firmware V11 + KillMe taking care of renegade processes, I've managed to free 58MBs of RAM at boot. No need for CFW then... brows.gif

The menu-button of my N97 keeps flashing. I thought it would be, because of an incoming text message or a missed call, but it's not. It just keeps flashing. I couldn't find an awnser anywhere.

aloz..im having trouble with my n97 mini. It seems that my phone will automatic connect to my wireless modem eventhough i disconnected it.. and everytime i lock and unlock phone... the error says 'connection is not available' pops up.. Need help here~

hihi.. got my n97 mini not even a month..now cannot on my phone liao...stuck at the nokia word...then will the screen gone black..=( tomolo need to send it to nokia center..Anyone face the same problem as me??

yeah i also have that screeching unlocking keyguard sound sometimes! i also duno why like da.t.. AND WHY I CNAT UPDATE FIRMWARE V11...i use NSU keep saying CURRENT IS V10....ARGH

Seems like I am not the only one who is still stuck on V10 firmware. I wonder why malaysian set is still forced to use the old firmware where everyone else gets the new one already.

There is actually a stylus pen a like.. Cylindrical rod, it should be it but I am not using it.

aiks, how come my ap set didnt come with stylus??

Added on March 9, 2010, 2:46 ami cant edit the Favorite Contacts at my home screen, it supposed that i can add or delete contact but it just have 4 square shape and no edit button, can anyone help??

You can easily edit the favorite contact in the widget by press holding the widget.
