Do u like or PL50? what kind of improvement dat u woul like 2 have from upgrading?
*
Well, PL50 is kinda nice, I'm quite okay even if I don't upgrade my IEM. My priority for upgrade is same or better SQ for mids and treble, and a bit more emphasis on bass and noise isolation. Overall, a good bang for the buck value IEM.

I'm thinking to get Fischer Audio Eterna, is it way better than PL50 in those terms? I've seen really rave reviews for the Eterna, so I guess it must be quite good then.

All in all, what is the best way to improve SQ for my budget range? Get a better IEM, or a good sound card, or get both?

Added on April 19, 2010, 3:48 pmAlso, another question I'm curious about, circumaural headphones, I've been using a couple of these, just cheap, no name, low end stuff, and they get stuffy and hot after about 15 minutes or so. So, is it the same for the better quality circumaurals?

from ur budget i suggest getting a better ones... Eterna r quite good but take note it's a totally different soundsig compared 2 PL50...
it's 4 basslovers... other IEM's u can look at such as RE0 been said it got the analytical sound emphasizing in mids n treble...

about the circumaural thing dat usually happens on closed cans where the face is totally closed no ventilation whatsoever...
even the better quality got the same problems but they r better in terms of sound quality wise and materials used on the unit...

Yeah, diff sound sig, I'm not a complete basshead, but still into more bass, so should be what I was looking for. RE0, from the reviews, I think it's better for non-basslovers. The one thing I'm wary about with eterna is that they say it's not very good at lower volumes.

Anyway, one more important thing, is an external sound card really important? i mean, will it have a major impact with an IEM like PL-50 or Eterna, as in a noticeable improvement without even trying hard to listen? From what I've seen, they're quite expensive, so are they worth it?

And one more, with an amp like E5 with bass boosting functions, I'm curious, can I get more of that bass increase, if I reduced the volume from my PC output, and increase the volume level through my amp? It's just that the effect is kinda subtle, unless it's a bass heavy clip or song.

Oh, and thanks a lot for your help!

can't comment much on the eterna coz i juz read reviews bout it...
i've been craving 4 RE0 long time ago but didn't mange 2 own it n nowadays my wishlist is expanding n i think i'll go 4 the essentials 1st since i own the TF10 ad...

about external soundcard or DAC it depends on personal opinion some might say it worth it some might say it's juz a minor improvement 4 the price...
so it depends on u... if ur afraid of the outcome better try it 1st b4 deciding...
IMO it's worth it especially listening from PC n laptops... 2 get a much more cleaner sound where inside there's a lot of other things going on n can add unwanted noise 2 ur music...
no comment on E5 but if ur using with a PC i suggest u go 4 a DAC instead...

if u don't like the effect of the closed cans u can also opt 4 open cans where mostly r comfortable surely no sweat problems... juz the isolation is not up 2 par on wat closed cans can offer...

Oh? What is the advantage or function of a DAC compared to an amp? Will it work for PC only, or can it be used on mp3 players, phones etc?

sorry go 4 a DAC/amp combo.... u can use it with ur PC as a DAC n amp or amp only 4 portable players(the portable DAC/amp)...
DAC process ur digital file means ur music files from digital signal 2 analog signal which u hear as music...
amp amplifies the signal...

4 easy understanding DAC is like an external soundcard but it's dedicated 4 music compared 2 soundcards where u hav more functions such as support 5.1 system...

IMO 4 u now the best thing is go 4 an IEM u like with ur budget... then slowly aqcuire the funds 2 get an entry level DAC/amp...
or keep ur PL50 4 now n use the budget 2 get a DAC/amp but this one u got 2 try the unit 1st... i suggest u go 2 Jaben shop 2 audition a DAC/amp they hav in store so u know what it can do 2 ur music n wether it's worth ur cash or not...

If you really want to go there by walking: if I'm not mistaken when you go out from subang jaya ktm station, go through the carrefour in front of you and use the carrefour's "jejantas" to go over the road, next you have to walk along the road over to SS15. Just follow the main roads is ok or can ask passerby for the asia city's location.

But one warning though, since ss15's area has a lot of university and colleges, it's usually packed with foreign students in the nearby housing areas. And there are some "gangs" of muggers that targets the students there. I heard the stories about mugging from some students that studied there before.
