wow nice collection
why do u have so many black though? your daily work beaters i assume as they're not very color versatile
*
Thank you. The reasons why I have so many black are probably due to two reasons:

1) My line of work doesn't allow me to be very adventurous when it comes to shoe colours - not that I would get a reprimand from HR;
2) The 'problem' with GW shoes (or Norwegian welted) particularly from English shoemakers, in general - ie. they are well built and if subject to good care, they aged very well and some of the shoes are approaching 9 years mark! After a while, I just need to get a new pair of Black shoes with different designs. smile.gif

I guess it took some times to collect all of this.
Nice collection you have bro,I wish I could get more pair of shoe like you.

Yes, indeed it takes a while to collect this though I must admit I was on a buying spree mode this year.

Awesome collection you have there!

But I see you have at least 3 pairs unused or barely used. I guess that's the 'problem' with having a large shoe collection, but what a lovely problem to have!
*
Very sharp eyes indeed! As you rightly pointed out some of these shoes are barely used (at least two of them are unused).

Are Cheaney shoes a lot more comfortable than Loake?

I own shoes from both brands. Subjectively, and only applicable to my feet, my Cheaney are more comfortable than my Loake, but not by much.

I would say that the upper leather of the Cheaney Imperial range is more supple than the Loake 1880 range. Plus the Cheaney Imperial range uses oak bark tanned outsoles, although that is not related to comfort but durability(and some say better grip).

Other than that, there is no significant difference in materials or construction between practically all brands of GYW shoes, so it would be mostly down to how well the last fits your foot. I don't own high-end shoes but I have tried on shoes from Edward Green, Carmina, Alden, St Crispins and Heinrich Dinkelacker to name a few. Despite having superior leather uppers to Loake or Cheaney, and the last two having superior construction(handwelted and not Goodyear welted) none of them were any more comfortable for me because the lasts simply did not fit my feet.

In other words, you need to go and try it. No one can answer this question but yourself.

So, if I'm unwilling to spend $$$ on entry level stuff like Loake, what would be the next decent option?

I assumed you are looking for recommendation for decent shoes cheaper than Loake. Please see this article, which i find very useful and informative:

https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2015/08/23/...5-2016-part-12/

Even Loake has the cheaper option but it would not be Goodyear welted - most probably cemented sole. But personally, I would advise you to 'invest' a little bit and settle for Loake 1880 - for the price, it's quite difficult to beat if you consider price-to-value ratio.

Another cheaper alternative would be Meermin - but this shoebrand is not without any complain - the infamous 'squeeking' problem if you read this thread and other major international forums. Note that the good thing about Loake is PLal stocked variety of Loake shoes that you can try on. If you settle for other brands like Meermin, Loding, etc as pointed out by this article, you would have to order online - which is not ideal if you are unfamiliar with a particular brands' shoe lasts.

Those days, I used to try and save some $$ and settle for brands like Clarks, Geox, etc. However, these sort of shoes do not last compared to decent shoes like GW Loake and I ended up spending more in the long-run.

Hope the link helps.

I do like Cheaneys in comparison to Loake & Barkers. It's a bit pricier but I much prefer its construction, design and lasts. It feels a bit more contemporary.

Thanks for the nicely detailed reply. Appreciate it. For Loake 1880, it should be about the RM1.4k range?

Nope. Less than that. It should be about 950-1000 after VAT. For further detail, please see the Plal price list (the price is still applicable but you have to add 6% VAT):

http://plal.com/store/uploads/images/Loake2014prices.pdf

For bargain during winter or summer sale, please checkout the link provided by Marver - you could find Loake 1880, Barker for 600-800.

Fully agree. Another good brand with sleek lasts and construction would be Alfred Sargent. I saw a few Alfred Sargent Exclusive model on sale under clearance and sample and seconds section on A Fine Pair of Shoes online shop - GBP150-195 from RSP of GBP350-425.

And looking forward to seeing your C&J! Handgrade or Benchgrade? In any case, both are very nice!

Regarding to bro mention Alfred Sargent brand... I have to admit,That i nv own this high-end shoe before,But i can see their construction are kind sleek and quality pair of shoe.
But the cons as i read from parisian gentleman that this brand have a inconsistency price tag, Is like you can get a pair of Alfred Sargent cheaper in france compare a pair getting from UK..
But then if got great deal or offer,Sure worth to get this brand..

Perhaps you could consider wholecut black?
http://m.crockettandjones.com//product/alex-black

Or for tux, you could also consider black patent leather shoes:
