So, if I'm unwilling to spend $$$ on entry level stuff like Loake, what would be the next decent option?

QUOTE(nikfs1881 @ May 26 2016, 07:48 PM) I assumed you are looking for recommendation for decent shoes cheaper than Loake. Please see this article, which i find very useful and informative: Thanks for the nicely detailed reply. Appreciate it. For Loake 1880, it should be about the RM1.4k range?https://parisiangentleman.co.uk/2015/08/23/...5-2016-part-12/ Even Loake has the cheaper option but it would not be Goodyear welted - most probably cemented sole. But personally, I would advise you to 'invest' a little bit and settle for Loake 1880 - for the price, it's quite difficult to beat if you consider price-to-value ratio. Another cheaper alternative would be Meermin - but this shoebrand is not without any complain - the infamous 'squeeking' problem if you read this thread and other major international forums. Note that the good thing about Loake is PLal stocked variety of Loake shoes that you can try on. If you settle for other brands like Meermin, Loding, etc as pointed out by this article, you would have to order online - which is not ideal if you are unfamiliar with a particular brands' shoe lasts. Those days, I used to try and save some $$ and settle for brands like Clarks, Geox, etc. However, these sort of shoes do not last compared to decent shoes like GW Loake and I ended up spending more in the long-run. Hope the link helps. This post has been edited by SweetPuff: May 27 2016, 02:34 PM |

Saw Mercanti Fiorentini cap toe double monks in KLCC Bata outlet. The brown one looks pretty good and well built for the sub RM300 price. Really tempted to pull the trigger for something I can wear without worrying too much about the surface I step on when walking to work.

Downside of having nicely polished shoes. One bad scrape will make things really obvious. Especially at the toe box.

Well, at the opposite end of the affordability spectrum, here's a look at the made in Italy double monk I got from Bata KLCC. Currently with 50pc off @ rm149.50.
Came in brown colour, but Iayered a couple of cognac shoe cream over it, and I find that it makes the colour more interesting. Quite a bargain, if you ask me. Will take more photos of how it holds up to one day of wear, which includes 30mins walk by roadside and housing areas. This post has been edited by SweetPuff: Jul 18 2016, 04:02 PM |

Here's some more pics of that super budget double monks:
![]() ![]() ![]() Just want to highlight that the original colour would be brown, and that I've layered the shoes with cognac and light brown cream. @Kelvw: What's the damage of the belt? |

Saw the Zeve shoes in KLCC. There's only about 3 shelves of shoes. The shoes are patent leather and painted in a way that's not my taste. The dark tones are way too contrasting for me.
And the monk strap sneakers are way too hip for me as well. |

QUOTE(Mrsaitama @ Jul 22 2016, 12:37 PM) No, I didn't. Since all the shoes have shoe trees in them. Construction looks solid, but since it's patent leather, I can't tell it's quality as much. Anyway, I'm no shoe pro |

QUOTE(JolamIII @ Sep 8 2016, 09:21 AM) Quite well, I'd think. Wore them twice a week. Walking to and fro from LRT station by roadside for 30mins and taking at least 7000 steps on each wear, if you can believe my Fitbit. ![]() Can see some increased creasing. Especially the sides. But I think it looks good on brown shoes. Probably not as great on black. Maybe some of the sifus here can judge the quality of the shoe better. |

QUOTE(JolamIII @ Sep 8 2016, 04:48 PM) Just last week, I can see they have only limited selection of shoes. All at 50% still. Some split toe bluchers, light grey toe cap oxfords. I quite like the pale brown sneakers. |
