I have a pair of Meermin suede oxfords, which I've worn for about 2 months now. It made squeaky noises when I walked due to friction with the socks so I put some talc powder in the shoes and the noises disappeared. However recently there has been a different kind of squeaking -- it happens when the sole flexes, when you start to lift your foot off the ground and the heel moves first and the sole bends. I'm not sure if it's due to friction again but I could only pinpoint it to the moment when the sole flexes. Any ideas on how to fix this? Sending back to Meermin is not an option.

Apart from that the shoes are pretty great, not the best finishing but not bad at all. The suede looks and feels soft. The snuff colour is darker than on the website but is just the right shade of brown imo. Not too light not too dark. I prefer it over the lighter website colour to be honest.

Congrats bro.. Was looking for a few site for their MTO or either their ready made Double Monk. I'm pretty sure the next hunt will be a double Monk.
Well sending back to meermin definitely not an option.. Try to find best solution to solve the uprising issue.
I do encounter the squeaky sound when walking with the sole & socks friction. Had no ideal until i read bro post.I think i got an solution from you.
Btw,Is not a leather shoe that have the squeaky sound. It was a new pair of Jack purcell converse shoe.

Btw,Any sifu here can give some insight on this brand : Florsheim.
How's their leather shoe rate in terms of comfort and quality? Is it worth the price?
Checking with uncle google but not much info. Not sure is their shoe goodywear welted soles? or not.

Squeaking may be caused by a loose shank, air pocket or materials rubbing against each other. Seems like a pretty common issue for Meermin.

Wow just on a single page there are 3-4 guys complaining about squeaky noises. Sounds like a common issue for Meermin indeed.

I don't think I'll be buying another pair of Meermin for several reasons:
1. QC issues as mentioned above
2. The prices do not include shipping fees of about USD35
3. Their charge non-EU countries USD 175 VAT excluded for a pair. If I'm not mistaken for EU they charge €160 including VAT (and less if they exclude VAT). They decided to fix the price at USD175 because of the falling euro previously, to the detriment of people like us.

If I buy from Carmina, shipping is free and they charge the cheaper euro rate to us. Granted the price overall is still steeper than Meermin but my next shoes will probably be Carmina.

My 1-year old Carmina. I heard there's now 1 shop in BSC selling Carmina shoes and some other menswear stuff from PJT, etc.

Hi, could we have a guideline for good shoes for men?
Preferably in the first post?
I have no idea what kind of shoes are considered acceptable.
Something like in the Kingsman movie: "Oxfords, not Brogues"

I read in another thread that the Carmina's there go for RM 1880 which is a pretty decent price. Not too far off online prices and you get the invaluable perk of being able to try the shoes.

I would support local stores if they price difference was negligible.

Mind to know what model is it? I'm looking for Carmina Nicolas double monk in Dark Brown calf.
If the price for local retail are almost there,Also would support the local shop..

If it's RM 1,880 then it's a decent enough deal I think. Carmina online goes for EUR 320-355 for non-cordovans. Factor in custom fees and its pretty good I think.

Based on the concept of diminishing returns, I guess I will never go into Lobb level shoes. Anything above 500 USD, the difference in construction and quality is probably very minimal.

Having owned Loake, AE, C&J and Carmina, the best I would go for is likely handwelted Vass.

Marver, what's the solution you have for squeaky shoes? I can't stand it anymore. It seems to have got much worse in the last week. It's loud and both the left and side shoes have it. Frankly it's an embarrassing pair of shoes to wear.

Anyone knows if the Professional Shoe Repair shop in Ikano or the cobbler in Mid Valley can fix squeaky GYW shoes? Or fix a loose shank?

Oh lol. I thought you had a solution FOR me. Just read your post again and it said you got a solution FROM me. Haha.

I think powder works for friction from contact against socks. My squeaking is internal. Probably the shank or something.

Yours is a Grenson?

My Loake never had any squeaking problems. My next pair arriving is J. Fitzpatrick, let's see if the squeak occurs. After that I'll probably be getting a pair of Carminas.

If I can't get it fixed for my Meermins I'm going to have to relegate it for wears to malls or someplace with noise. Can't do it in an office environment where the squeaks will be audible.
