QUOTE(rafiqos @ May 9 2010, 10:14 AM)
Nebo hierichonticus might not be the best scorpions for first time desert species keepers Ryo. It's the only scorpion from the family Diplocentridae that is medically important.

The positively charged sodium ions in the Beta toxins in this particular species is capable of breaking through the BBB (Blood-brain barrier). The ions actively discharge onto the barrier (which is a form of membrane that barricades the brain from being flooded with blood). The venom then strike the neurotransmitters in the brain, causing them to fire rapidly with no brakepads. Among the first signs of the venom taking over is bulbar impairment, where the victim will begin to drool uncontrollably because of the loss of control over swallowing. The extent of damage a Nebo hierichonticus tag can cause is still being studied.

I'd go for a Hottentotta caboverdensis instead. They are both cute and feisty at the same time. lust.gif

I din research on nebo before and are not aware of their venom potency
Seriously this surprise me, all this while i underestimate a nebo blink.gif
This is truly a scorp that can make u drool on it non stop drool.gif
Sorry for the wrong recommendation, asmalltowngirl and thanks for the valuable info rafiqos nod.gif

Now now guys, be nice, we might give an impression that we are closed minded, which i know most are interested of exchanging information, and friendly when known.

Rafiq makes thing real complicated, though i like it if i understand it. Do you have papers or link for us to read on Nebo hierichonticus?

I think it need work both way, i hope to hear a reply from that Guy/girl, don't worry we won't eat you.

Leiurus quinquestriatus, is near impossible to spelled the scientific name.

LEI UH RUS QUEEN QUEST TRY AT US. I have to pronounce out the way familiar to me in order to spell it. I don't understand why people like except it has more potential to end your life miserably. I seen other more specimen looks nicer that this.

Hey ryo you can reply this why can't msn. LOL.

Yes i do agree on your reference there and recommend Hottentotta caboverdensis Again, i seen certain member stating they are Hottentotta hottentotta (ex caboverdensis) curious on this.

I take my statement back. After reading(or mere looking at the introduction) on research paper, your actually made thing easier for us. You spoil me my friend. I will help you part with them when i am back if i may, so you could actually spend more time reading research paper, and my life easier LOL.

Zoejehuty:

Your first answer will be, both will do fine, if they are free from any chemicals and parasites. Main purpose i use substrate is to provide moisture or occasionally provide hiding place for them. They hardly be any other reason for this substrate i can think of. Hyourin has answer it nicely and short.

To answer your 2nd question, insteed of trying to prevent them burrowing, is easier to change to other kind of feeders?

Apart of making sure my Heterometrus spinifer eating the superworm of crushing their head and making them lifeless and undesirable for the scorpion, i can't really prevent them on burrowing to substrate unless i don't use substrate at all. Thing with superworm is, most of the time they will find a nice moisture spot in the substrate and stay there till they become beetle. Usually is under the water bowl.

i've stoped feeding mealworms.. now constantly feeding with crix.. Seems they get fatter with crix.. only wen the crix are gone then i will feed them mealworms..
But to solve te matter of it being dug into the subs then it is wise to pre-kill or like Ryo would have done which would to kill it... the scorp will eat it none the less..
