spec for spec, i'd go for the any lower end sony compared to any lower end N or C. u can get a lot of 'tool' from the sony, unavailable in the other 2 brands. of coz when u look at midrange bodies, it's a whole different story altogether.

my personal advice is that at the low end, u can quite count Nikon out of the equation as it offers the least functions and priced quite the same as other brands.

Hit right on the spot!..

This is why i ended up choosig a300 rather that the Nikon d40 or the d60..

With the $$ you pay for the A300, function wise, not there la for the d40

& since i don hv zoom lens... i used my 50mm to shoot "telephoto" shots. Example shoot artist on stage using F1.4, but go home i hv to crop it like 50%... then it works nicely... as long as i don do large print. i rather do this using the prime lens than the kit lens at 70mm due to its sharpness..

eh.. nice.. i never thought of it..

Quality wise, still good right?

put it this way, you know that opening max wide will soften the image, right? then u stop it down a couple of stops to get sharper image.

F1.8, u have to stop to 2.2 or 2.8

with f1.4, u can stop to 1.8 which can achieve the same sharpness but with more light gathering ability + shallower DOF

Added on September 16, 2009, 3:36 pmanother point is that the optics itself is much sharper for the 1.4

oh.. i din know this technique... but usually i hardly use F1.4.. (just on rare occassion.. it does come in handy)... i usually shot at F2.0 above.. shooting food at F1.4 i think only the tips of d frenchfries will b in focus hehe..

I love the IQ of this lens.. but just read this month DCM... suprisingly it has the lowest rate comparing d Canon, nikkor n sigma F1.4 50mm.. unsure.gif mayb it is really enough to satisfy noob like me..

ohh.. still very sharp.. veryy nice... oh sshhii.. poison!!...
i like this lens because of the shallow dof it provides.. samore, shooting in low light condition still good.. kitlens punye bokeh cannot compare with the 50mm's bokehness wei..

dammit.. must stop reading here that often..

eh, even it mentions that the iq is the lowest rate compared to others, but it still does a good job..
