Since the PC Hardware section has this, I thought I'd start 1 just for the photo kakis. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Come come come, all gearheads show off ur shiny new toys here.

Just some simple guidelines as in the PC thread.

1. Pics or it didn't happen!

2. 800 x 600 is the maximum resolution

3. If possible avoid attaching to LYN, make use of other image hosts such as ImageShack, Photobucket

4. Do NOT quote pictures. Reply with spoilers if u must.

5. Short discussion is ok, unless our admin/moderator find it more to spamming/out of topic

Now let's start showing off our shiny new toys! I'll start off with what I bought in the past month.

Went shopping today for some essential stuff like lens caps, screen protector, filters. Bought a 77mm B+W MRC UV filter and a 77mm Hoya Pro1 D UV filter for some fun n games. Bought them both so I can compare n see if the B+W is really all it's hyped up to be.

I think shud be same 1 lar. Mebe easier to clean oni as most ppl say in the interwebs. A lot of ppl don't seem to know that Hoya is the biggest provider of quality optics. Even manufacturers go to them sometimes.

aiseh bro, you should compare the Hoya Pro1D with B+W Xs-Pro... these 2 product lines have "digital" in mind. The 010 MRC has been out for quite some time already. tongue.gif

It's not a normal plastic stick on sheet ler. It's GGS brand. Made of ultra thin sheet of glass. Pandai pandai bargain ler. Sticker is rm99 but I paid rm50 for it. The rm99 is to bluff ppl who dunno actual price.

Manfrotto 055CX3... no pics of my Q3 head though. I almost went for the Gitzo 1531 CF tripod but it was like S$200 over my budget. The 055CX3 was quite light, but it is a tad too long and I can't fit it into my Lowepro bag sweat.gif

Dat big lens is using only 52mm dia filter? Is there a slot in tray kinda thing? hmm.gif

p/s - the lens is berry berry nice, but what makes me stim is the RRS ballhead and the funky quick release mechanism. How it work ah? Can show more? drool.gif

p/s2 - No wonder price of lenspen skyrocket up to 60 linggit. biggrin.gif

Then I decided to come back KL n try to find similar price coz I wanted Canon Msia warranty so I can make use of my CPS membership in case anything happens. Then turns out got 3 years warranty sumore. Lucky I didnt buy on Monday.

this is a professional tripod. The brand is Aria, which I guess is not the well known brands like Benro, Manfrotto etc.
However the quality is not bad, almost identical to the branded tripod. Most important is it's cheap and with ball head, which I like

I was surprised too. I jsut bought my 270EX 2 months back n online registration only gave me extra 3 months warranty. This time 580EX II is extra 2 years warranty. There's a big fat voucher inside the 580EX II box telling u to register online for 1+2 years warranty.

17-40L very cheap only. Crazy fella at John 3:16 asked me to take 70-200 f2.8 IS n 16-35 f2.8L together. sweat.gif I only need the 17-40 as a UWA, no need blazing speed. laugh.gif

Staying until 2moro only coz I saw lotsa stalls n shops at Orchard Rd being set up just now. So I decided to stay 1 more night to check out the F1 stalls n shops 2moro. In front of Takashimaya oso having sum kinda F1 thing starting 2moro. Fast n Fabulous or sumthin. laugh.gif Dunno yet if I will come back on weekend for F1. Damn lame, camera shop owners told me the tickets state that 300mm n above lenses not allowed to b brought in. vmad.gif

pocket wizard lar

ST-E2 is using infra red which sometimes doesn't work on bright sun light or when it's too far

PW uses radio frequency, better range, better reliability

ST-E2 can only control 2 groups of speedlite, A & B. Moreover the batteries for ST-E2 is quite hard to find. I used to think of ST-E2 but I bought the 580EX2 as the master. smile.gif

By the way, I received offers for used ST-E2... S$180 only tongue.gif So cheap!

ianho...
if u like walking to and fro the strobes a lot...
then PW is very reliable for trigger...it's the benchmark after all...

but i assume st-e2 is the same like su-800...
where all the changes can be done without even moving... biggrin.gif

but if u ask me...
i'd say PW!

S$140, just got it today after I booked it 2 months ago. Frankly speaking, this ND110 is very troublesome to use. My 40D can't even AF in such dark viewfinder, and I need 30s @ ISO3200 to have a properly exposed photo of my room... I think this ND is a tad too strong for me.

I also registered for the seminar, but didn't go at the end because of the timing.
I'm going for the F1 practice day tomorrow, hope can take some nice photos. laugh.gif

The carbon fibre tripod market price is around SGD450-480.
Faster grab it before it's too late.

In fact immeadiately everybody take out their gun to shoot Barrichelo at the seminar.. haha

We Recon around the Circuit area to look for where we can shoot. Most of the area was covered with green color canvas. This shoot was taken at a stair at marina square. Not easy to shoot as I have no idea when the safety car will appear, as my view was blocked.. I shoot Based on the sound. There is only safety car and medical car running on the circuit.. they could do 1 round at about 2-3 min.

You have the ticket, sure can get better view smile.gif

If I bought the Tripod, must spend a few hundred more to buy ball head. doh.gif
I have spend a few K to buy new cam + lens this month..

Sent an email to them asking about regulation on photography. This is their reply.

We appreciate your transparency regarding the equipment you intend to bring into the circuit park. Our main concern, and that of Formula One Management, is that all equipment brought into the circuit park should not be for commercial purposes. If your equipment is deemed to look professional, you may be required to fill out a form at the entry gate stating that it is purely for personal use.

Additionally, we would like to stress that the enjoyment of other spectators should not be impeded and we therefore urge patrons with photographic equipment to show consideration. Tripods and monopods will only be allowed in the general walkabout areas and not into the grandstands

In conclusion, we do not see a problem with you bringing the equipment you have mentioned to the race. However, you may experience slight delay at the entry gate subject to filling out the form mentioned above.

Cheers ! smile.gif

I m not sure. I don have ticket. Maybe Sukhoi37 will know..
but my fren who is a F1 fan, he say it's stated on last year ticket. But this year Ticket never mention about that.
He say can bring 300mm but U need to sign a form that you agree the photos is not for commercial use..

If the ball head the can go for 2 type of mount.. ie the normal manfroto mount size & and a normal camera mount (for my monopod) that would be very good

If the ball head the can go for 2 type of mount.. ie the normal manfroto mount size & and a normal camera mount (for my monopod) that would be very good
*
Sorry, i'm also beginner in ballhead.
your monopod mount is different from manfrotto one?
I think you better bring your monopod down for testing, or do some research first before buying.

My monopod, is beginner type..Velbon UP-400. Free bundle with my old camera.
It can be mount to the camera body directly. So it;s the standard camera mount.

While the normal tripod mount for manfrotto is slightly bigger...

The focal length become a bit long when use on my 40D. But the effect of the lens is fun.
I'll still figuring how to make use of it so I can have more fun during the canon maraton day.

I dont like on camera flash. Anyway, my flash is usually sitting in the umbrella softbox. The battery is only rm19.90 so might as well just keep spares.

BG-E6 in Singapore very cheap oni rm900+. KL pricing for accessories siao 1. U can also take a look at the Meike grip at YL. It's actually pretty nice for only rm500. I think rm900+ is a lot to pay for a BG too but when I use the 70-200............ aiyoyooooooo. Wud b nice to have a BG when using the big mama.

Time to poison you more, since your Ikon uses the M mount.

http://us.leica-camera.com/photography/m_s...enses/2180.html

Aside from 50mm, 35mm is the classic rangefinder focal length, and the aperture provides more than enough flexibility and the focal length is perfect for taking pictures of people.

As for me, i'm considering this brows.gif

I told Vincent the Sigma 50mm produces bokeh as nice as the big white fatty but in a nice lil shorty package easy to carry n walkabout with. Vincent said "meh! I got macho manly arms to carry big white fatty, nonid to look at shorty". laugh.gif

What u dont understand is...... a lot of ppl dont use the 70-200 f2.8 for reach. It's used a lot as a portrait lens.

tongue.gif i would say normally they use 70-135mm range only, 200mm is a tad too long for portraits unless the photographer's objective is to capture scenics like the mountains and valleys...

I had a chance to photograph Stylo Fashion Week (forgot which year already), some uncles in front of me use 24-70, those same line with me uses 70-200 (I'm using the DA* 50-135 f/2.8 that time), and some uncles at my back on 300mm, 400mm LOL~ I guess it all depends on where you stand during the event.

it is close to impossible to make telephoto lens for rangefinders, let alone f/2!

ZF is a Zeiss Designation lah.

Leica uses the designation of M/R/ER or the -vid, -lux, -cron suffixes.

Believe it or not it's actually easier due to the shorter flange distance, the need for a longer exit pupil is no longer there. It's just that RF users have generally gravitated towards portrait and street photography, so there's really no market for these beasts.

The TeleSuperAchromat if adapted to 35mm size does have a near F/1 aperture. Plus if Leica can make the 0.95 F Noctilux, it doesn't seem that far fetched.

it is not impossible to make it for RF...
it's juz doesnt make sense...
even with a 135mm u can hardly get a sharp image....
let alone 200mm at f2!
this is due to the viewfinder....
it doesnt magnify according to the lense used...
u might say u can add external VF...
think again...for wide angles...u can do hyperfocal...
for teles....if u hyperfocal...u r F*ed la basically... sweat.gif

btw if leica does come out with that lense it will be called Summicron 200 ASPH. brows.gif

hmm... i read somewhere that it is impossible to make telephoto lens for rangefinders; have to dig up the source though.

ah found it, I misinteprete the following quote though:
"Rangefinder cameras work well with lenses up to 135mm. After that, the only way to use them is with stupid Visoflex and reflex attachments, which turns them into SLRs. " from http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/rangefinder-vs-slr.htm

but RF....is wayyyyyyyyy superior in the wideangle part! brows.gif

Added on November 11, 2009, 7:59 pmwith the visoflex...the main advantage of a rangefinder is eliminated!
it becomes bulky...ugly...and yeah ugly... biggrin.gif

visoflex is actually to aid focusing and thats all....
bcoz conventional frame lines starts only from 28-135.
beyond that...u need a VF with above 1.0x magnification... =)
even 1.0x VF is super rare...let alone above 1.0x...

If the Speedlite fails to register, you better send it back to shop and ask them to register. If not mistaken, Speedlite got 15 months warranty (12 + 3)...

Went out to Georgetown today to do some street photography. Then my hand pain coz no BG while using 70-200 f2.8L IS. So went shopping for a BG as I heard things r much cheaper in Penang.

So I bought myself a PG-E6. No more hand pain. thumbup.gif

I really dont know. I gave it a good thrashing yesterday including walking in the rain n continued taking pics in the rain too. Seems ok. It's been raining every night here in Penang so I'll be using the camera in the rain a lot. If it survives this trip, I may just continue using it.

Uncle Ian, I'm quite surprised it actually lasted in the rain.
I was thinking they just put "weatherproof" as a marketing gimmick.
Seems like camera equipment/accessories are much cheaper in Penang, I've gotta make a trip there soon!

It depends on the memory and the memory card reader.
If the memory card has a fast read speed but the memory card reader is USB 1.1, there'll be a bottleneck.

yup but sometimes I just can't get over myself to get a plastic piece for RM150 when 3rd party hood is only a fraction of its price

Later they give metal (aluminum) type of material construction then people complain about weight. tongue.gif

They are not complaining about what material it is made of.... but rather the pricing.

the hood is so hard that it doesn't absorb the impact force thus passing on the force to the lens. i guess something like this rclxub.gif

If it's titanium it's not as flexible as plastic (I think).
However, if it's plastic, it's more flexible.
Therefore, upon impact. The lens hood made of plastic is able to diffuse the energy from the impact reducing the chances of the energy being transferred to the lens. When there's no energy transferred to the lens, it shouldn't have any problems.
This is just my theory. rolleyes.gif

there will definitely be energy transferred to lens. just that it's reduced. innersia something something in science. if no energy transferred, everyone use hood lor.. thumbup.gif
